THIS STORY ON CORRUPTION BROUGHT TO YOU BY BOB NEY

June 20, 2006 5:51 PM

Chalk it up to the occasional awkwardness of advertising...

This
TIMES REPORTER (OHIO).COM  story about today's conviction of crooked Bush White House official David Safavian is brought to you by....Congressman Bob Ney, R-Ohio.

(AWK-WARD!)....

See, Ney, too, is under investigation as part of the federal probe into the lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Hence, the ad, "BOB NEY for CONGRESS....VOLUNTEER TODAY!...Working Hard to Make Lives Better" appears alongside information that "Four others, including Ney’s former chief of staff-turned-lobbyist Neil Volz, also have pleaded guilty and are cooperating with prosecutors."

And that: "Safavian’s trial featured testimony about a lavish golf trip to Scotland that Ney took part in and that was funded by Abramoff. Ney insists he has done nothing wrong or illegal and says he was duped by Abramoff. In a statement after the verdict, Ney’s spokesman Brian Walsh asserted that the Safavian case “had absolutely nothing to do with Congressman Ney.”

“The congressman has said consistently from day one that he has never, at any point, engaged in any improper, unethical or illegal activity,” Walsh said. “He remains absolutely confident that the lies and deceptions of Jack Abramoff will continue to be revealed and that his name will be cleared fully at the end of the day.”

That is some serious ad placement.

Noticed by our very own aspiring Lois Lane here at ABC News, Jennifer Duck.

Every one of us who doesn't effectively campaign for change is deserving of what we get. If we let the incumbency bait us into railing incoherently, we will lose. Too many people prefer to be "right" rather than victorious. At the end of the day, that attitude is self-indulgent and defeatist. We get what we allow to happen to us. Moreover, we can't depend on the media to report; today's media is owned by businesses that have a vested interest in not rocking the boat.

Lobbyists is the name of the game for the politcal machine that sucks up money like water. It's a gamble to them: will they win the money or will they get caught? Part of the reason why social security should be part of the stock market is to keep the wealthy making ever so much more money. Now the companies can pull out and take your money with them and have some laughs at the "poor little old grandmas".....Oh well the politicians can afford the best lawyers so maybe they won't have to pay and will win another election paid for by the nice lobbyists.....They just want to make money. That's so American......Is there more to life than money????? Not in this White House!!! Our Tax money is gone before we send it in every April. Now who do we owe? Ourselves because we voted these crooks in and allow the lobbyists to control them. Not concerned yet?? I guess you never will be...Every man, woman, and child in this country has to pay 85,000 dollars to the IRS this year to balance the national debt. Give us the jobs Mr. President and we will do it. We Americans will never give up.....sigh

What's amazing is that Pres. Bush has avoided the whole Abramoff scandal, going from "I don't know the man" to "Well, maybe there were some photo ops at the White House. . ." In fact Abramoff was on the Bush team in 2000 during the Florida recall debacle and after. He was so entrenched in the Bush transition team that, when his partners Gus Boulis and Adam Kidan were entrenched in a bitter fued over control of the SunCruz Casinos in December of 2000, Abramoff refused to go to Florida and help sort out the problems with this $150,000,000 purchase because he was too busy helping then Governor Bush. One of Abramoff's December 2000 emails says this clearly. So he didn't pay attention to that deal - which is what got him indicted - because he was too busy helping then Governor Bush. Yet our President is able to continue getting away with saying he has no idea who this guy is: that's his story and he's sticking to it. Maybe Bob Ney can take a few pointers and get away with it too.

Congressman Ney isn't misrepresenting himself at all. He is indeed "working hard to make lives better!" It's just that the lives he's talking about aren't those of his constituents, but those of his own and his family! If Ney truly believes that ANYONE will swallow his story about being an innocent pawn who was duped by Jack Abramoff, he seriously underestimates the intelligence of his district. No one purportedly that stupid should be holding any public office, anyway!

Corrupt politicians are nothing new. Holier-than-thou Republican politicians who claim the high ground and wallow in the mud with their sanctimonious blathering should (hopefully) raise a few eyes in the upcoming election.
