I get married one week from Sunday... Today is my last day of work until Tuesday, Sept. 5 (the Fiancee and I are delaying our honeymoon until November).... So please forgive if my blogging -- even moreso than usual -- takes on the tone of Larry King's old USA Today column...
Returned from Rhode Island late last night, and hopefully we can offer the story about the Chafee primary today... a few other stories I'm trying to complete today so Nightline can air them any time it so wishes deal with the East Coast-West Coast feud between the Friars Clubs, a re-visit with Stacy Geraci -- the oyster fisherman from Hopedale, Louisiana, whom we accompanied to his destroyed home last year (Click HERE to see that dot-com story), and a peek at the IRS's new war on the Hollywood giftbags called schwag....
In other randomness...
Is this British tabloid report slamming Sumner Redstone's "trophy wife" for being responsible for the Tom
Cruise/Paramount War of the Worlds part of a Cruise retaliatory strategy? YOU BE THE JUDGE.
The Washington Post looks at S.R. Sidarth, the Democratic operative referred to as "macaca" by Sen. George Allen, R-VA. Reports the POST, "Larry J. Sabato, an oft-quoted political pundit who teaches a small, popular seminar on campaigns and elections, said he asked students to write an essay as part of the admission process. Eighty people applied for the course, including Sidarth. His essay was just three words long — but it was enough to clinch one of the 20 coveted spots in the class. 'I am Macaca,' he wrote."
The liberal website Crooks & Liars is linking to this interesting clip of a clearly frustrated Ann Coulter apparently storming off the set of Hannity & Colmes...VIDEO HERE.
Did the media legitamize a bogus story about Israel attacking a Red Cross ambulance? Conservative websites such as ZOMBIETIME ask probing questions....
More later....

The clip of Coulter was amusing but IMO didn't reflect poorly on her. Those crossfire style talkshows are terrible.
As for Redstone's trophy wife, can we stop calling her that? Not that you coined the term in reference to her. I get it; there's an age difference. But she's a person, not an object.

Ahh, "King's Things." One of the great regular columns ever to appear on the web:
"You know who's tall? That Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!"
"You can keep you Corvette. For me there's no substitute for the complete package offered by the Buick Regal."
"It's easy to see why the kids are crazy about young Harry Connick, Jr."
An absolute goldmine.

Presumably the time was EDT as standard time doesn't start for 2 months.
Congratulations on your upcoming event, anyway.

Jake,
Good luck on your marriage/wedding. As for Ann . . . well. that's all part of the show. Like her or not, she's an entertainer as much as a writer.

I'm looking forward to your upcoming stories, Jake, and best of luck with the wedding. However, I feel I must defend Mrs. Redstone when she was quoted saying, "I never want to see another Tom Cruise movie again." What motivated her to say that probably wasn't Cruise's outrageous behavior, but instead his ever-increasing highly-mannered style of acting which he's fallen into recently. Such acting, consisting of smirking at the camera, would sink any movie! So, you see, Mr. Redstone's actions were based on the aesthetic judgment of his wife, not her religious beliefs!
