Lieb/Lamont/Latest
This a.m. came a new Connecticut poll showing Joltin' Joe Lieberman with a sizable lead among Connecticut voters….Quinnipiac sez IN ITS NEW POLL that 53 percent of likely voters favor Lieberman, 41 percent favor Democratic primary winner Ned Lamont and 4 percent are standing firm with Republican Alan Schlesinger.
In following the Smukler rule of "follow the trend" in polling, this shows Lieberman standing firm and Lamont gaining. In a July 20 poll, Lieberman had 51%, Lamont 27%, Schlesinger 9%.
For those keeping score on the endorsement front….Sen. John Edwards, D-NC, is campaigning for Ned Lamont in CT today….and Sen. John Kerry, D-MA, sent out an email to his 3-million-member list-serve in which he asked them to support Lamont and he slammed Lieberman by name:
"George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove should know better, but it's no surprise they don't. For almost five years now, every time they've got their backs to the wall politically, they play 'the fear card.' The latest example: Dick Cheney claiming that Democratic candidates who dare to challenge the Bush White House on Iraq are 'emboldening terrorists.' What's worse, and startling, is that in Connecticut Joe Lieberman is now echoing their intolerable rhetoric attacking the Democratic Senate nominee."
Lieberman spox Dan Gerstein says Lieberman has been endorsed by former senator And 9/11 Commission member Bob Kerrey and former CIA director James Woolsey.

I read in the Bible that one of the signs that the Apocalypse is nigh is when the Republicans support or endorse a Democrat in the Connecticut Senate race, or whenever Bob Kerrey gets involved. Are those four shadowy figures in the clouds riding horses?

The Republican fat-cat war mongerers will milk the Lieberman situation for all it's worth. In the current weekly issue of "the Exponent" in Philadelphia (a rag, pseudonewspaper put out by the money guys of the Philadelphia Jewish community), there is a full page ad by the Republicans lamenting the "loss" of Lieberman and attacking the Democrats as the party of the "far Left". Expect to see this crap until election day. Straight from Rove's playbook; if you don't have anything positive to say about your party, attack, attack, and attack again. Unfortunately it works all too often.
