Following is a letter to Disney President and CEO Robert Iger from John Bueg, whose wife CAROLYN (link), a former executive at Walt Disney Records, was on American Airlines Flight 11 when the plane struck 1 World Trade Center.

"September 9, 2006

"Dear Mr. Iger,

"I have seen the advertisements for and read the press coverage of ABC's film, 'The Path to 9/11,' that your network plans to air this Sunday and Monday to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. I am writing to express my concern and deep reservations about this film and to ask you, out of respect for the victims of 9/11 and their families, not to air it.

"My wife worked for the Walt Disney Corporation and was a victim of the terrorist attacks as a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11. I have great respect for you and your company and I know that you must have worked hard to make a good film. Admittedly, I have not seen it. However, accounts from those who have suggest that it contains inaccurate and invented scenes. It seems to me that fictionalizing this tragedy does not honor the memory of those who were lost on September 11th.

"Given the gravity of this event for our nation and the personal loss I suffered, I believe it is critically important that we do everything possible to prevent another 9/11. That begins with making sure that we are united in our understanding of what we could have done better in the years, months and weeks leading up to the attacks of 2001. I am deeply concerned that Americans will watch this film and not fully understand -- or be led to misunderstand -- the true history of this tragedy.

"I feel the 9/11 Commission Report was a correct and very responsible accounting of the terrorist attacks of 2001. Since 'The Path to 9/11' deviates from this report in key instances, I strongly and respectfully urge you not to air this film.

"Sincerely,
"John Beug"

I read the "911 Report" so why would I want to watch "Path to 922" which is not factual? Mr. Tom Kean thought the mini series was factual.

Quick message for Mr. Beug:

I will only offer my condolence for whom you lost; and hope that your life is much better now than it was then. I cannot, in all conscience though, excuse the words of the hateful and disrespectful republicanazi on this board and on this particular network. You see, we have these individuals, republicans, who think that the world at large is theirs for the taking, like the Nazis of World War II. They have a leader, bush, that is the epitomy of evil; uses bald, two-face lies, and has the pomposity to think that he's right and everyone else is wrong.........and he feings the feelings for those who not only lost their lives, but for those who are STILL loosing their life because of him.

Please know that prayer for these people and their leader doesn't work; after all, you can't pray for the damned............

And ABC as well as bush will be damned for what they've done to the truth.

I think CBS or NBC should do a mini series called The Many Vacations of G. W. Bush." It would run for months!

We can see George on his bike trip the day before Katrina hit... after being told the city would be rubble 24 hours later. Or the seven minute day dream he took after being told "America is under attack." I'd like to see more footage of him on his ranch too, chewing on a tumble weed as he looks into the setting sun.

If Path to 9/11 is actually shown it will energize the Dem base just like Fahrenheit 9/11 energized the Reps.

With the Reps' struggle to keep control of the House in November and Bush's low approval ratings they should be the first to shout for stoppage of this docu-drama.

Rest my case... The liberals put their agenda first. They know if we become united the war will result in a victory, but they can't see it's a victory for the country, all they see is it will help the repubs. JFK must be rolling over in his grave, he would not know his party what you guys today have done to it. What few good democratic leaders there were, they have been silenced sort of speak.

This is horrid. This sort of editorial version of events should never, ever - under any circumstances - be permitted. This movie was created with the intent to slant, change or reinforce public attitudes and perspectives on an important event in our history, taking liberties with facts and opinions in an effort to make us think or accept unpleasant viewpoints. Manipulation of the masses. Simply horrid.
Gotta go.
Time to put my copy of Farenheit 9/11 back in the NetFlix envelope so others can watch it (and so I can get my copy of Unpleasant Truth to watch again before the mid-term elections.
BTW - these films are completely different; they totally and unambiguously support a MoveOn POV, placing them beyond reproach.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, I truly am.
I am very sorry for all the loss of our citizens on 9/11, my heart still hurts for our country, such a horrific attack. I watched United 93 movie last night. So many people went through so much. I will not forget that day, our citizens. They were all so brave while of fear. No one really knows what they felt that day. If I had been CIC, it would have affected me deeply too, being attacked on our soil from all those planes since I love my country so deeply...

There's no telling how many other terrorists on planes cowered out or had to put their attack plans on hold after the FAA grounded all flights on that day. I do think they will try again, look at the times they have hit us already. I keep mentally prepared no matter who the CIC is. The terrorists have convictions and it’s rooted deep in a religion…it’s like brainwashing.

I have to disagree that the 9/11 Report was a fair investigation. I was hoping it would be fairer and open to what took place but once I found out how the wall from the Justice Dept. was being covered up; I knew what was happening, politics. It was a white wash of the true facts that occurred. There were several Clinton officials who sat on that committee who should never have been allowed to. Why the other party allowed this sham, part of their get along thinking, again, or what, so Condi doesn’t look kind of bad. Why didn’t they allow the Able Danger Report??? Gee. So, this is certainly a flawed reasoning. I still say let the chips fall, either administration. You have to give it to ABC, they didn’t make this happen, they are doing the best they can with all the pressure they are getting behind the scenes. I realize many on that network do not like President Bush but you know we can hope they do the right thing and protect free speech.

Mr. Beug has every right to request an inaccurate movie about such a horrible tragedy to not be aired.....and those of you who are so ignorant to blame the Clinton admin., should look a little closer at what 'Daddy Bush' did, or should I say didn't do for our country! He 'pussy-footed' around and let these terrorists get by with everything. Clinton had one heck of a mess to try to clean up after Bush. Look at our country now what financial shape we are in.....and you people can stand up for Republicans? Never the less, this movie, if inaccurate and ficticious, should not be aired. My heart goes out to all the families and victims.

"...out of respect for the victims of 9/11 and their families..."

Sorry, Mr. Beug, but you have no right to speak for any victim's family other than your own. And please don't think we "little people out in flyover country" are so stupid as to not realize exactly how your missive to Bob Iger just happened to also land in Jake Tapper's inbox.

By the way, the current buzz is that Part 1 of "Path" has aired largely (if not entirely) intact in Australia, where Sunday night has already come and gone. So if what we see on ABC in eight hours differs significantly from what's the Australian public was allowed to see, the Democrats had best not expect it to go unnoticed.

I guess I should thank President Clinton! He and his cronies will probably end up giving the GOP a much-needed 10-point bump in the polls by making such a stink over this, when the movie would otherwise have gone almost completely unnoticed in the morass of 9/11-related programming filling the airwaves over the next two days.

I sympathize for Mr. Beug over the loss of his wife, but his logic is all wrong. The story needs to be told so the American people can see just how inept and incompetent Clinton and his administration were in combating terrorist.
They need to hear about the many missed opportunities to nab BinLaden, and the many terrorist attacks which went unanswered. They need to hear about the Gorelick memo which prohibited sharing of information between law enforcement and intelligence agencies. They eed to hear about the incompetence of Stammerin Sandy Berger, the guy who stole classsified documents in an effort to protect Clinton. The Clinton cabal is obviously afraid of one thing, the truth, which their hero has never been able to handle.

Disgusting of course. I hope the democrats punish Disney just as badly as Disney thinks the Republicans are going to reward them financially for this political attack ad.

Any Hollywood actors who work for Disney in the future will probably be in shorter demand. Maybe you can get Mel Gibson to do that Holocaust flick after all.

Jake, be a man. This is something that Sinclair or FOX would do, but yes the cocktail weenies are too tough to pass up. Pretty soon, you just might make it into the gang of 500. Sally Quinn putting you on speed dial might trump integrity anyways.

I apologize to Mr. Beug for myself and others who voted for Ross Perot and allowed Mr. Clinton, et al, to get elected and may have well cost him the loss of his dear wife.

While I'll sympathize with Mr. Beug , a proper disclosure is needed that he is a democratic contributor to Wesley Clark's 2004 campaign.

Seems to speak of something you haven't seen is a bit premature and immature. What is Clinton afraid of? The Truth?

"ARE YOU GOING TO CONDEMN THE MOVIE OR NOT?"

Think of the cocktail wienies, Jake. You've worked so hard for that seat at the Cool Kids table. Don't blow it now. Uncle Karl is watching.

Like most people, I havent seen this film. However, based on what I have heard a few things have become evident.

1) The film uses composite characters, applies events that happen to the wrong people, and overstates much of the character perspectives. Admittedly, some of this is justified for time constraints. THe fact it was written by a conservative does not help offset its point of view.

2) There is still an open wound about 9/11. I think regardless of political persuasion, there is a sense that 9/11 was a deeply personal event, and all across the spectrum, people want to see the story done right (see United 93). There is an aversion toward anyone using 9/11 for their own political gain.

3) This miniseries is playing just too close to an election for it to be argued its not because of a political interest.

I think that this situation can be remedied very easily. Cancel it this weekend and play it again after the election in November. Ultimately, thats what we're really talking about; dems are worried (and rightfully so) that this will misinform the public 2 months before an election--a television swift boat story so to speak. If it really is "just a miniseries" as purported to be, postpone it to minimize the political impact of it. I would say thats reasonable.
