"Path to 9/11" Conspiracy Alert!!

September 08, 2006 1:44 PM

Something seems to have escaped the notice of the many "Path to 9/11" protestors out there: the casting decisions.

While some of the role-playing seems fine and just -- Harvey Keitel as the late FBI Agent John O'Neill, for instance -- what are we to make of the following?

Reagrdless of what Clinton's National Security Adviser Sandy Berger does or does not do in the film, what are we to make of the casting of Kevin Dunn as Berger?

Blog_dunn_060908

Dunn may be best known as the obnoxious "Joel" from the 1990 Seinfeld episode "MALE UNBONDING"  where Jerry tries to end a friendship with a childhood pal whom he loathes.

William Cohen, President Clinton's Secretary of Defense, is being played by Michael Murphy -- perhaps best known as the adulterous "Yale" from Woody Allen's "Manhattan," as well as the bumbling Democratic presidential candidate in the Garry Trudeau/Robert Altman "Tanner" series...

Former counterterrorism czar (and ABC News consultant) Richard Clarke is being played by comic actor Stephen Root -- known for his brilliant turns as "Gordon" in "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story," as as the red-stapler-obsessed "Milton Waddams" in "Office Space"!!!! (To say nothing of his brilliance on "NewsRadio.")

The controversial Barbara Bodine, Ambassador to Yemen, is being played by  Patricia Heaton, the anti-abortion and Terri Schiavo activist/star of "Everybody Loves Raymond"...

The controversial CIA Director George Tenet is being played by the gruff-but-lovable dad from "Wonder Years,"  Dan Lauria…

Vice President Dick Cheney is being played by George R. Robertson .... also known as "Chief Hurst" in the "Police Academy" movies...

Blog_nkotb_060908

Last but not least, the film also includes a turn by Donnie Wahlberg (formerly of the New Kids on the Block, aka NKOTB)….

For the love of God, people, has this world gone mad?  Discuss.

Cant trust Rick Ratliff with U.S. Security

Posted by: none | Sep 13, 2007 9:19:15 PM

Well what have we learned? We already knew that you can't trust republicans. We know we can't trust corporate america. They will both get you killed for profit. We can't trust our religious leaders and we know some of news orginations are not trustworthy. I'm sure Fox News is worried. ABC that was a corruption coup you orchestrated with The path to 9/11. Now we know who you are. A more honest title would have been The path to avoid Impeachment.

America needs programs like this to impress upon us that a war is a war. We should stop whining and whimpering about it and understand it. Most of us don't get it!!! My wish would be that the country would unite, accept, and insist we go in {wherever we go} with overwhelming force. If you go to war, it should be to WIN. I believe we're in deep, deep trouble if we don't defeat this terrorist threat....our way of life is in danger. Why don't we get it???

I thought tonight's airing of the "docudrama" was interesting. The ending was a disappointment. It didn't do the event justice. The feeling wasn't portrayed. Just a bunch of political pen-pushers scrambling to point the blame and pass the decision on to someone else.

And I'm utterly disgusted that everything is so politicized. My God. Almost 3,000 people died, and I see a lot of posts arguing politics? It's a total disgrace. No wonder this country's image has suffered so much. So much for this country pulling together with compassion and empathy for the sake of those lost. I lose more respect for the people of my country every day.

Yet there is hope, seen from those who chose to get involved with nothing to personally gain, just the desire to help another human in need, with no thought as to what if may cost them. This is what America should be about. An America to be proud of. I am ashamed. Is no one capable of forming their own opinions? Must everything be Democrat or Republican? No wonder I registered as an independent. I don't agree with either. Everybody's made mistakes.

Our government as a whole has failed us. Many say Katrina was the government’s biggest failure. I'd say 9/11 ranks right up there with it. Republicans and Democrats, everybody dropped the ball. Hell, most of the time, they're not even willing to play.

Disgusted Up North

There is no Democrat or Republican worth his salt, that would not agree that history has shown, we as a nation tend to only learn the hard way. What harder lesson do we need to learn? We are a nation blessed beyond measure that has taken our security for granted. Our arrogance and myopithy has made us a target for just such calamities. Freedom isn't free, it's paid for with the blood of heros and victims. God Bless them, everyone. Wake up America, stop listening to those that would sell you out for political gain (here or abroad). You are at war with evil just as the world saw in Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan. The difference is not the philosophies but the localities. See the Evil for what it is and pray it's not too late!

A provide in courage was what Peter Jennings was to me. When it came to the News, he was fearless in reporting the truth. As the standard-bearer for his memory, who among you will say that the Path to 9/11 is riddled with dishonesty? Who among you believes that Jennings wouldn’t? Who among you will speak the truth?

To allow this program air as a factual presentation without challenging its’ integrity tells me that FOX has a new contender on the block. Why you at ABC-News want to join that network in fighting for a diminishing audience is a mystery to me. I will watch tonight to see if I will ever watch again.

Sounds like a GREAT cast for the Clinton administration!

I feel sorry for you Jake. You need your job, and you're probably not willing to risk your livelihood to actually report the truth, and I understand.

Still, it must be difficult to write this kind of servile commentary to your employer's clearly slanderous disservice to the American public.

why are they trying to stop this is it truth hurts its easy to blame the one who came into power than the one who left the mess.why are we so one sided if it was bush oh my the ones opposing would pay plenty to have it aired.lets take equality here whats good for one can be good for the other abc i commend you for taking this stance. i will condem if you are swayed to edit in any way.there are other channels to watch.let there be equality in reporting.

We want to see 'The Path to 9/11' and form our own opinions!

How many objectors have seen it?

Posted by: Bob Miller | Sep 9, 2006 9:20:13 AM

ABC knows this documentary is untrue. It plans to air it anyway, without correcting the lies and distortions. 911 is a tragically sacred event and should never be bastardized by ABC or any news organization using public air waves OWNED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. When do we wake up and stop this useless and absolutely polarizing retoric and get back to living the American life we all desire? I and my family are so sick of being on guard 24 hours a day, and now we find we have to fear our own news agencies. That Disney is involved in this is a sad reflection on our ability to trust a company that profits from the habits of our children. Our children are our only hope to ending this terrible corruption in the government of our beloved USA. Stand up to the political pressures of the desperate GOP and let ABC know you will punish them for puting lies on our airways.
WAKE UP AMERICA. YOU ARE DYING. OUR FREEDOM IS IN JEOPARDY. OUR RIGHTS ARE DISAPPEARING AND WE ARE PERMITTING IT TO HAPPEN.

I for one cannot support a docudrama that rewrites history in an attempt to influence voters in the upcoming election. All of the major media Icons of this country have lost the ability to write or report fact based news or documentary. Perhaps this is due to the financial influence the GOP has on the corporate purstrings of these companies. News has turned into sensationalistic tabloids and left the thinking people uninformed and mindless of the world around them.
I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL ABC NEWS WATCHER FOR MANY YEARS. I HAVE NOT BEEN HAPPY WITH THEIR REPORTING ETHICS IN THE PAST BUT IF THIS "DOCUDRAMA" IS AIRED AS IT IS TODAY I WILL OFFICIALLY BOYCOTT ABC AND ITS AFFILIATES FOR GOOD. I WILL ALSO ENCOURAGE AS MANY OTHERS TO FOLLOW SUIT AS I CAN. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RETURN TO GOOD JOURNALISM ETHICS AND REPORTING. I WILL SUPPORT THOSE WHO ACCOMPLISH THIS END BUT THE OTHERS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN MEANINGLESS NOISE. UNINFORMING AND UNINSTERESTING. VOID OF PURPOSE, REASON OR POSITIVE INFLUENCE. SHAME ON ABC AND IT AFFILIATES. GOODBYE FROM A LOYAL LISTENER...YOU HAVE BROKE THE CAMELS BACK FOR ME.

abc sucks

Posted by: coleman | Sep 8, 2006 10:15:42 PM

I would reccomend that you put some effort into finding out what Sandy Berger from the national arvhives. The truth is that we were attacked several times while Clinton was in office. Each time he sent the fbi to investigate. What do you suppose Berger was attempting to hide? Why was he trying to hide anything> Honest men dont shulk around
You should read Bill Gertz Betrayal where he outlines the failures of those guys. Clinton never did anything to stop these people and you know it. take your liberal hat off and get real for once.

Posted by: chuck | Sep 8, 2006 9:26:45 PM

So now it's funny? Because Donnie Wahlberg is in it? Do you have ANY IDEA how disgusting your defense is to people who lost friends on 9/11? By the way, Kean is no longer supporting this "wholehartedly" and agreed changes should be made. Check your facts. ABC News is destroying its reputation.

Posted by: Tom | Sep 8, 2006 4:34:11 PM

Unfortunately, ABC will cave in to the Democrats. Michael Moore lies were highly publicised by ABC. Michael Moore fictional documentation "Fahrenheit 9/11" received a standing ovation from the liberal Democrats. Let the American People be the Judge, We are not Children and we are not stupid.

We all have read the 9/11 Commission report, We know lies from truth. If ABC is afraid of the Clinton's and the Democrats, give the series to Fox for broadcast "Fair & Balance"

Hi Jake,

Your old pals at Salon are so proud of you...and it seems the potential you showed while you were treading water there has finally come into full bloom as you once and for all show the validity of the Peter Principle!

What flavor of Kool Aid do they sell at the ABC Cafe?

Posted by: Nancy Richardson | Sep 8, 2006 3:40:14 PM

9/11 -
Well the perception that a "dramatization as opposed to a documentary" ABC's own words - on such a tragic event, just before a major election inwhich the side to benefit most from this folly needs desperately this kind of Karl Rove help - is of such poor taste.
The upcoming campaign is all about the war still and fear to detract from the real everyday events that the politicans are trying to ignore with smoke and mirrors. Politics has gotten unbelieveably wretched and desperate and the people that buy this garbage - morons.

I smell a skunk at ABC -- too bad. I've never had reason to doubt their veracity or even handedness until now. For the time being, ABC is strictly forbidden in our household. And Disney can go to heck in this handbasket as far as I'm concerned. Who knew?

Posted by: C. P. Mitchell | Sep 8, 2006 2:08:31 PM

What in the hell does who was casted in the role have to do with the price of tea in china?

You could have amatures doing this and it still doesn't negate the fact that you are airing this right before an election. Tell me, who casted that?

BOYCOTT ABC and thier sponsers.
