McCain Adds Fuel to the Fire
October 31, 2006 12:06 PM
An e-mail from McCain's political action committee quotes the Arizonan slamming his fellow Vietnam veteran.
“Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country's call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education," McCain said in a statement.
The press release also indicates that McCain will be available for questions during an event with Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis at 1:15 p.m. EST. ....Meaning the GOP is hoping to make this the political story of the day.

"By JAKE TAPPER, MIKE CALLAHAN and AVERY MILLER
WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 31, 2006 — For weeks, Republicans on the campaign trail have been looking for something — anything — to talk about other than the record of the Republican Congress and the way the Bush administration has conducted the war in Iraq."
This LEAD SENTENCE on the developing story of Kerry's faux-pas sounds an awful lot like an editorial. AND. And, I would dispute it. It's not that the Republicans haven't had things to talk about, it's that they haven't found anything compelling enough (until Lurch provided it) to take public attention away from the frantic spinning of the driveby media. How many days did Macaca drive the news cycle. Hmmmmm?

Kerry is an embarrassment to this country and to the human race. As a retired Navy Veteran with 23 years of service, I am HIGHLY insulted by his comments and the hatred for soldiers, sailors and airman he spewed with his disgusting "opinions".

Bush gets in a war that should have never been. John Kerry words may need clarification...however his judgement is correct. I ask you which is the major fault! steppping in it or ??? you get the idea.

Thanks for helping Republicans make this incredible non-story into one Tapper. No wonder the old media is precipitously declining. Because idiot reporters like you can't figure out how to report news without reading one side or the others talking point of the day. This faux outrage is so blatantly a poltical stunt it's ridiculous. God forbid anyone in the news business use their brain. Believe me when I say (and I would say it to your face, if we were having coffee) you and everyone like you in the news have FAILED the public. You are a miserable and worthless failure and contribute to the decline of America. Quit chasing the Washington coctail party talking points and give the public some actual, thoughtful news. You hack.

Sorry to be unclear. Having served I have less intellect than others.
Kerry is as addled by elitism as Gibson was by liquor.
At least Gibson had the humility to apoligize and try to fix his problem.

For four years Kerry and other democrats have been trying to convince Americans and the world that President Bush is less than his/their intellectual equal.
Kerry continually proves himself wrong.
After three tries he can't even get his spin right.
Oh by the way did you know he served in Viet Nam?

If you don't think Kerry said anything insulting, break this down just a bit. Before one ends up in Iraq, one has to join the military. Thus, Kerry's statement can be construed as: "do well in school, or you'll have to join the military."
To which, one might logically ask, "what's wrong with joining the service?"
To most Americans, absolutely nothing. To Kerry, it is clearly a sign of mental deficiency or desperation.
Well, when I took a leave of absence from a top-20 business school to do my tour of duty, I definitely was not desperate, and I definitely did well in school.
Thus, I must ask. Senator Kerry: Why do you assume I'm an idiot?

flyover, I have no idea what you are talking about. Does Kerry have a drinking problem? Please explain.
And for those of you who, incredibly, believe Kerry intended to disparage the troops, I can't imagine the bile you must feel for the man who has led thousands of them to their death in an unprovoked war. You must really loathe that guy.
Posted by: DKNY | Oct 31, 2006 4:51:30 PM
Wow. Some of you GOP supporters are really grasping at straws. It is so obvious that Kerry didn't mean to slam the troops. . .that his words came out wrong. Heck, Bush does it EVERYDAY. Besides, Kerry is not up for re-election. BTW, republicans aren't the only one's who served in foreign wars. Since when do republicans act like they are the only ones out there? The current prez was AWOL during the vietnam war! He never served! And he is responsible for the lives lost in Iraq!

Note to DKNY:
John Kerry has a history of disparaging troops by the comments he has made in the past. Comments, that are on the record. It's just more of the same. This man needs to stop undermining our troops and this country. When he and the many others in his party undermine our troops by making stupid comments like this, they are enlivening our enemies that want to destroy us.
Posted by: John | Oct 31, 2006 4:27:00 PM
Kerry spoke his heart in the same way that Mel Gibson did.
Both are drunken intolerant ignorant pathetic people. Kerry needs to head to rehab so that he can get over his hatred of our military and that nasty addiction to elitism.
Posted by: flyover | Oct 31, 2006 4:24:07 PM
So Kerry for mis-speaking owes the troops an apology. But Bush for deliberately misleading the world and the US into a Driven-By-Commercial-Interests-of-Halliburton War in Iraq, does not owe one?
As they said about Mark Foley and Ted Kennedy, Kerry's actions "did not kill anyone".....?

THIS JUST SHOWS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HOW DEMOCRATS REALLY FEEL. THESE HEROS PUT THIER LIVES ON THE LINE DAILY FOR OUR FREEDOM. AMERICANS NEED TO WAKE UP, COME FORWARD, AND VOTE! CAN YOU IMAGINE IF DEMOCRATS WERE MAJORITY? TERRORISTS WOULD LOVE IT. WE WOULD ALL BE FREE GAME FOR THE TERRORISTS!....TO OUR SOLDIERS OUT THERE, WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!.....HOME OF THE FREE LAND OF THE BRAVE!!!

I see, it only qualifies as news if the news is bad for Republicans.
Posted by: David | Oct 31, 2006 3:48:37 PM
Senator Kerry does not owe an apology to the troops serving in Iraq "...because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education." Senator Kerry wasn't referring to them, so he couldn't possibly have insulted them.
In the Kerry quote being sent around (taken out of context), it is not clear if he was referring to the uneducated people who have few options other than to join the military, or to the uneducated politicians who sent them there.
It is only the right-wing attack blogs that are trying to make something of this. It is too bad that ABC chooses to report everything they say as if it's news.
Posted by: Jock Young | Oct 31, 2006 3:35:56 PM
I cannot believe this qualifies as news. Even the most rabid Republican would have to acknowledge that Kerry did not intend to disparage the American troops, just as I don;t think Bush is really concerned about North Korea's Noo-Q-lar bombs. This is not a story. It is entirely fabricated.

Rusty,
When a man runs for public office he opens himself up to that type of scrutiny. I know it is difficult for you to understand, but Democrats are also responsible for their words. If Sen. Kerry can't make himself understood - is that the fault of the speech, the listeners, or perhaps - Senator Kerry himself. Spare me your tripe, hack.

Good lord, Jake....are you hoping for a Christmas card from karl Rove this year or something? Maybe they'll ask you to jump out of a cake wearing nothing but a thong and big smile for the President's next birthday bash.

Why, after 103 have died this month in Iraq, is THIS the top story on ABC's web-page? Do you folks report any news anymore? Or do you only report spin?
Posted by: Patriot | Oct 31, 2006 2:08:20 PM
Seems obvious that Kerry's remarks were directed at the Idiot-in-Chief - and NOT the troops, as the desperate Neocons have distorted.
