Clueless Political Quotes of the Week

April 28, 2007 1:09 PM

It's really a toss-up as to which comment belies the more solipsistic worldview.

1) "No one suffers more than their president and I do when we watch this."
-- First Lady Laura Bush on the TODAY show, watching pictures of the war in Iraq.

2) "It's the most despicable thing I've ever heard in my life."
-- Former CIA Director George Tenet, telling 60 Minutes how offended he was by the leak of the "slam dunk" story

Really? The head of the Central Intelligence Agency has never heard anything more despicable in his life than a leak that made him look bad?

Somebody's not reading the briefing books about Darfur.

And no one suffers more than the President and First Lady when watching pictures from Iraq?

Not the injured veterans? Not war widows? Not the Iraqis?

These people need to get out of Washington, DC.

I must admit I find myself looking past Mr. Tenet's coy demurrals about his culpability in the lead-up to the Iraq invasion. However, just like the "made" members of the Mafia who can provide fascinating inside "dope" on the mob - once they feel they no longer are getting "respect". Mr. Tenet can provide us with some important information, once we get past his self-serving, "it is not what I meant" apologetics. Memoirs of people who helped make history have generally been, at least, 70% rehabiliation of their image and 30% interesting facts.

Senator Obama’s wife’s comment “As a black man, he could get shot getting gas” was extremely racist showing inherent racial bias. This is particularly appalling coming from someone desiring to be a first lady and in particular promoting a platform of “bringing people together”. Anyone, white, yellow or black could get shot getting gas, being black does not automatically make anyone a target.

A disgusting and shamefull statement.

I only just now realized that, in Laura Bush's quote, you can hear the faint echo of none other than Ken Lay's wife's quote, describing her 'struggles with liquidity' after her disgraced husband was convicted.

Those poor people. How do they get by?

I agree. And, after having seen yesterday evening (on another network) one of the most egotistical, egocentric, self-serving interviews EVER, I'd advise Mr. Tenet to "get a life."
