Yesterday two significant votes in the US Senate indicating the winds of change are blowing -- both among Democrats and Republicans.

Majorities in both parties backed bills that, just a matter of a few weeks ago, would have been considered heretical and disloyal in the case of the GOPers, and radical and imprudent in the case of the Democrats.

Both votes failed -- but they were quite significant.

MORE ON THE VOTES HERE

What do you think?

Steve the only thing Congress can do is cut funding, Period. They can not do anything else. The lib Repubs are not listening to the People, and the Lib Dems are listening to George Soros's Period.

For once the GOP is beginning to listen to their voters, rather than listening to the corporate contributors, political sycophants, and religious nutjobs that fill their ranks.

If anything, the Democrats are tossing softballs. They should mandate a pullout, plain and simple. This war has gone on too long and Afghanistan is falling apart because of Curious George's silly iraqi adventure.
9/11 was about Osama, not Saddam.

Marinemommilof3 - Umm it is the Libs that holding the money for our troops not the Republicans.

Now If I read this blog right it says the republicans want the bill tied to go cutting money assigned to the Iraqi goverment if they do not meet bench marks, but they want our troops fully funded.

Now Marinemommilof3 please explain what he did illegal? Since the only thing the libs say is they were political firings, but were they not political hirings?? Don't they work at the President's desire? The only thing done wrong here is that Gonzalas should of just said The President Hired them and he Decided to Fire them and left it at that. (They are bad communiucators I will give you that)
So blame the Libs and the libs in Republican clothing not the True Republicans/conservatives

"As far as the socialists bill well that stabs our troops in the back"

What are you talkin about SPOCK??? Sending them over without armour?? Cutting their benefits while they are there?? Stopping the 3.5% pay raise by the White House?? Cutting the WIC program that the military's children need to eat?? Cutting their TRICARE benefits.
WHAT PLANET ARE YOU ON????? Oh that is right...spock doesn't belong to one planet....just out in space...somewhere!LOL

Spock:
It is not your fault that you 'think' that Gonzales didn't do anything illegal....HOW WOULD YOU KNOW??? ABC is NOT REPORTING A THING, ON COMEY'S TESTIMONY......

Posted by: Marinemommilof3 | May 18, 2007 10:58:23 AM

I find it quite amazing that there is no mention and has not been any mention of the Comey testimony ANYWHERE on this site, or ON ABC NEWS????
What's Up? Why is ABC not reporting this news?
Who gave the orders not to report or even get a mention??
Don't tell me the troops are fighting for OTHERS freedom of speech, and ours here in the United States are slipping away.
I want to know, who there is stopping this reporting???

First of All to Adam's comments about Gonzales, What did he do illegal, Fire employees that work for him that he hired? I wonder can everyone thats been fired in this country have their ex-bosses charged?? The AG's are Political Hiring and can be fired for Political Reasons. If you condemn him for firing 8 then where's the condemnation for Firing 92 by Clinton, whos fired them to cover the firing of two that were investigating him and another democrat. This is a Political Game by the socialists.

As Far as the Vote goes, The Republican vote has nothing to do with money for our troops but money for the Iraqi government and giving them the ability to take responsibility for their country, Is that not what we want? As far as the socialists bill well that stabs our troops in the back.

It is amazing what Attorney A. Gangzales tries to get away with regarding the story by James Comey.
And that Pres. Bush has condoned the illegal behavior of then Staff Adviser Gonzales back in March 10, 2004 is simply criminal.
In addition to demand Att.Gen. Gongzales resignation, we should demand the RESIGNATION of Pres. Bush.

I have to question exactly how much of a "wind of change" these votes really signify. The fact that such measures can now be discussed in the august legislative chambers of the Senate is, indeed, at least a mild breeze of change. But considering the resolutions themselves, though, I'm sure that many senators voted their conscience, along with an eye on their future career prospects (Hello, presidential candidates, wherever you are!).

I also believe that many of them voted as they did because they knew, in the end, their resolutions would be defeated. To me, such a vote falls into the same category as the measures used by Speaker Pelosi in getting bills passed in the House which she knew full well would fail in the Senate or would be vetoed by the President. Passing symbolic legislation isn't much of a gamble or risk if you know it's DOA. A legislator can look good by voting for a measure which the public might want but which he or she knows has no chance of survival. Subsequent action--or inaction--by the Senate will tell us if these votes were truly an important sea change or just a blip on the radar.

Has Rove's idea for a permanent war-time president finally reached its end?

Hey better late than never. That Hillary never misses a beat. Way to follow the center.

I wonder who the GOP "yay" votes came from...link? Sununu has been getting press for pressing for timetables, hasn't he? And he's no pacifist.
