President Bush came before the cameras to bury the immigration reform bill, not to praise it.

Ht_bush_070629_blog Here's the FREE VIDEO of our story on the controversial bill's death knell.

In today's Washington Post, our friend Peter Baker takes a look (LINK) at how, "for a president who makes a point of never giving in, even when he loses, it was a striking moment, underscoring the depth of his political travails."

One place the president CAN claim a legacy is clearly the Supreme Court, where John Roberts and Sam Alito will change the shape of America for years to come.  The splendid Jan Crawford Greenburg takes a look at how Roberts trimmed precedents in her story HERE.

What would you like to see in President Bush's remaining 570 days in office? What do you think he could get done?

The Bush economy is superb, in part because our hands are not tied with the Kyoto protocol. Perhaps the country can take its prosperity and build domestic, renewable energy sources that are cost-effective.

By the way, he could ask McCain to draft a bill on the anchor babies and take back their citizenship and follow the citizenship of their mother/parents. Germany done it against the Turks and I think most of Europe are now the same. This is for McCain to redeem himself for his sake.

What would I like to see Bush do in the next 570 days? That's an easy one. Impeach the criminal.

Don`t forget the 8.5 BILION dollars that was squandered by the Bush administration for New Orleans. Mr.Brown (FEMA) is doing a fantastic job. (quote from GW) 2weeks later your fired)from GW. Now GW is behind closed doors with the Russian President. GW does not speak for me.Less than 30% approval, I dont think GW speaks for majority.

Pres Bush will go down in history as one of the great presidents. He has kept us safe here at home even againet the Terrorist appeasing libs in congress.

New Orleans was the faulth of the Mayor and Governor of the state, not Federal, if you knew how the constitution works you would know that too, The state must ask for aid, they did not, the federal goverment can not intercede in state affairs. The mayor should of used the Amtrak train that was offered to him, the buses that were flooded, and instead of giving a political speech in the aftermath he should of be helping. Libs love to pass the buck.

Now this immigration issue is really the only bad thing Bush has attempted. So please!!!

The best gift by Pres. Bush is to RESIGN !
Our National Security will improve once he goes back to flooded Texas. Texas will also realize that like New Orleans they will have a long, long wait for aide.
Pres. Bush, Get Out Of Our White House!

I think Bush is pretty much done as far as anything else he can do in the remainder of his term. The Democrats will probably want to get something done, who knows what? I can't fathom what the Democrats and Bush can agree on.

I guess the democratics in Congress are lots worse than the Congress that tied up this country worrying about Bill Clinton's relationship with an intern. Was that more important than the issues the country faces with the current administration?
If President Bush really wants to accomplish something bi-partisan, he should actually move on alternative fuels rather than just talking about switch grass. He has to be able to accomplish more in the next 570 days on this issue than he has in the last 6 years. All Americans of every political party are impacted by this issue.
What he will want to do is appoint another Supreme Court justice. If that happens, his legacy will be more lasting than anything else he can do. A woman's right to choose will bite the dust if that happens.

The next 570 days will see more hearings by the Democratic controlled Congress over matters that are 5-6 years old. What is really ironic is that instead of working with President Bush and actually getting some legislation passed, the Democrats are going to fight him right up to the very end. And in so doing, the 110th Congress will end up accomplishing very little.

I think another Supreme Court nomination is in order.

The best he could do is to enforce the immigration bills that we have and start withdrawing the troops in Iraq. Of course, this won't happen because Iraq is his milk cow for him and his family and illegals are working on his farm and oil fields.

He should just stay in the WH and not travel and spend the taxpayers money. Right now, he is useless and his credibility in the world is shut, this is to prevent more damage to our country.

The best that we could hope for from Bush is that he do nothing. The damage to our nation during the Bush presidency is so far reaching it will take years to rectify it. If he would just go that "undisclosed location" that Chaney used to use and stay there out of the way, we would be better off.

Another great caricature, Jake! Only 570 days left? My, how time flies when you're having fun!

Seriously, unless this president can pull a metaphorical rabbit out of his equally metaphorical hat, he's simply a lame duck who will accomplish very little. I think whatever he does accomplish will depend on the much-awaited report from Gen. Petraeus coming in September about Iraq. If the news is good, which I think highly unlikely, it may provide enough support for him to push a couple more minor legislative initiatives through Congress; if the news is bad, which I think much more probable, he'll have to spend all of his time in damage control and face-saving mode.

Additionally, if more of his supporters defect from him and his position on Iraq, as did Sen. Lugar this week, he will be weakened so much as to be not much more than a figurehead. I suspect that he'll be busy fighting Congress the rest of his term, since the Dems are out for blood, and that will take up a lot of his time and energy. I guess, in short, the President's legacy will primarily consist of the restructuring of the Supreme Court and the inextricable foreign entanglement in which he's involved the US.
