Confused
June 05, 2007 5:41 PM
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., is not happy that Fox News Channel used b-roll of Conyers when discussing the indictment of Rep. William Jefferson, D-Louisiana.
Both men are African-American, but the similarities physical, stylistic, and substantive pretty much end there.
You can watch the screw-up here (LINK)
Fox did issue an apology for showing the wrong video (LINK). But Conyers' office is upset that no one directly apologized to him.
"Fox News has a history of inappropriate on-air mistakes that are neither fair, nor balanced ," Conyers said in a statement. "This type of disrespect for people of color should no longer be tolerated. I am personally offended by the network's complete disregard for accuracy in reporting and lackluster on-air apology."
Thoughts? Appropriate outrage or much ado about nothing?

It's funny the take on this Fox mistake was thought of as racial. I am so tired of the racial card being throw out like confetti at a 4th of July parade. Why has no Dem screamed at the top of their lungs that Sen Hilary Clinton accepted $800,000 in campaign contribution funds from rapper Timbaland who uses the n word in his songs and drops the f bomb so freely? Why is it that when she uses her fake Southern accent that the Africian Americans don't see this as an insult? The double standard is sick.

Ok bones Let me start from beginning of your rant -
1 - If they believe in Free Speech for others then themselves, how come they slur anybody who is not supporting them. Hilary and Bill have a hit squad that does this. Hilary screeches that she has the right to Debate and descent, but when did anyone say she did not, they just gave an alternet opinion.
2 - Vannessa said below in blog to fire them
3 - a similar Fairness Doctrine was ended in 1988. The reason it was in existence was earlier there was a limited amount of Radio and TV stations, today People have a choice, they can turn the channel. And the majority of NEWs Paper and TV is Liberal (85% of Journalist state they are Democrats) The doctrine only attacks radio, why is that? There are hundreds of stations, the libs can come up with their own talk radio, oh thats right they did and it went bankrupted, so now they want to kill other voices. The doctrine is unconstitutional first of all, no where in the constitution does it say Talk has to be fair by citizens. People are not locked in to listen to a radio station if they do not.
4 - This Feinstein bill created by libs only allows the Rich to run, because people are limited to what they can donate to a candidate? So all it did was stop the lower incomes from running.
and also the doctrine does not only apply to Candidates, but even if it did, and by your definition Fox is conservative (though you do not know what conservatism if you think that) the libs were invited to talk on there and they refused. They are always invited to talk on the Conservative talk shows but they refuse. (or should I say Soros does not allow them to)
5 - FYI The Democrats in Federal Government have the richest members starting with Kerry, who only paid 14% in taxes in 2004, So who is for the poor and middleclass? So is Pelosi? NOT. Feinstein? NOT. So it seems only Rich Democrats can run.
Did I convert you yet :)

That's what I like most about you, spock, your rationalizations are so predictably reactionary that you make William F. Buckley look like George Soros. "Libs," as you so colorfully put it, believe in free speech so much that they're willing to exercise those rights even to disagree with the government's policies, while you reactionaries would have them keep quiet because they're "hurting our way of life." Nobody said ANYTHING about firing anyone; that's just you generalizing once again, trying to define the other side by your own prejudices. The "so called Fairness Doctrine" which the "libs" support is a reinstatement of the one which expired in the '90's, to give every candidate equal time in the media. I can see that you as a reactionary would rather have presidential candidates on either side who have more campaign funds buy their way into office while the poorer ones can fall by the wayside. The rich candidates get richer and the poor ones get the shaft, right?

This is Fox afterall, isn't it. Wasn't it Fox that magically turned Mark Folely into a democrat on air.
This type of thing should not suprise anyone.
Fox is what it is.

Bones - you make me laugh, i sometimes mistype, oops I guess I should be fired.
The government thing I brought up is to response that libs like you and vanessa want people fired if they make a mistake. they want to control free speech.
Everytime someone makes a mistake a lib says fire them especially if the person is considered a Republican.
The so called Fairness Doctrine that the libs are trying to pass will stop anyone that disagrees with them from speaking. That is why I brought up government.

There you go again, spock, jumping from one argument to another without any logic in between: who said ANYTHING about government control of news, radio, or TV? By the way, the expression is "much ado about nothing," not "must to do about nothing." You've obviously never been exposed to any Shakespeare (he's an English playwright--look it up).

Vanessa - I hope you never make a mistake at your job, because if you do you should voluntarily fire yourself. This whole thing when someone has a slip of a tongue, a mistake in print or video should get fired is absurd.
If a mistake is made and they apologize it should be forgotten.
Now if it was not Fox you libs would be singing a different song.
The only apologize needed is on the air at the same time the mistake was showen , so you most likely will get the same people who saw the mistake. and a phone call to Conyers would be ok.
Do we want Government control of our News and Radio and TV.

All stations make mistakes
CNN - with Osama - Obama
And this one, now truthfully since they said them name correctly, how many people know what Jefferson looks like, they could of showed anyboby, most people just recognize the name, thus this did not afect nobody.
It is non-news and must to do about nothing.

This reminds me of the recent mistake which CNN, I believe, made when it had one of its many talking heads discussing the whereabouts of Osamsa bin Ladin with a crawl underneath asking "Where's Obama?" Don't these cable news organizations have people to proofread what they display in their graphics and to review what video clips they show? Rep. Conyers deserves a full and humble PERSONAL apology from Fox "News."

This is so offensive I can not even believe it and people should be fired. I'm proud that the democrats won't debate on the entertainment network Fox News.

Whoever screwed-up and showed the wrong clip--Conyers and not Jefferson--should apologize directly to the Michigan congressman and admit the mistake.
