UPDATE: ABC News' Julia Bain Reports: Brownback has apologized to Romney. Brownback spokesman Brian Hart says the Kansas senator told Romney, "My campaign will not be in the business of theological comparisons.”
Click HERE to see the video.
Romney spokesman Kevin Madden tells ABC News that the former Massachusetts governor spoke to Brownback while campaigning in Florida, and Romney has accepted the apology.
The email, forwarded to Iowa Republican leaders from the personal account of a Brownback field director, raised questions about the similarities between Mormonism and Christianity. The staffer, Emma Nemecek, has subsequently been reprimanded for violating campaign policy.
Both Brownback and Romney will be competing in the upcoming Iowa straw poll on Aug 11th. In recent weeks, the Brownback campaign has issued several emails directly attacking Romney's credentials on abortion, in an attempt to outflank him among conservative voters.
Brownback is currently on a 4 day, 27 stop bus tour of Iowa.

It is really interesting how bored people that have nothing else to do, try to find "negative" factors about people when they really have no idea what they are talking about. Come on people, get a life. If he is a mormon, jew or catholic, who cares. Freedom of Speech, Freedom of religion... Remember those words?

I couldn't stop laughing after reading "LOL"s "token tools post" It is so true!

I find it fascinating that so many people are so worked up about Mr. Romney's mormonism, yet nobody at all is interested in Senator Reid's mormonism.

Mormons are Christian that love and worhsip the Lord Jesus Christ. They uphold the constitution. They support the laws of the land and have a live and let live attitude. Do some research and get to know one of them befoe you believe what you see and read. Be a grown up, find out for yourself.

What's the problem here?
Mormonism is NOT along the lines of traditional, orthodox Christianity. Mormon theology believes that Jesus Christ is the spirit brother of Lucifer (Satan).
This is not traditional orthodox Christianity. The conversation gets really askew with Mormonism and Christianity when both use the same words/terms, but mean different things by them. This is why people get confused.
This is not to say that Mormons are bad people at all. This is just to say that theology really needs to be under scruitiny if we want to say that Mormonism is "Christian" in the traditional sense.

Tumbleweedin - show me your temple recommend and I'll listen to what you have to say...When I was an active Mormon, I used to go to the Temple often and there is none of the nonsense you are spewing

You two are bantering on and on about Freemasons and Mormons.. I am part of a Masonic organization... I go to meeting and recite speeches from a ritual... i go to charity events.. the masonic group is a group of individuals that come together for a common cause. So if you are calling the masonic symbol which represents masons part of satanism well then i guess that completely contradicts my roman catholic background. Second of all do you even know what you are talking about when you talk about the Anti Masonic party? Just because a person may run under the Masonic party it doesn't mean that everyone believes as he does. I am a republican, but that doesn't mean i believe everything that comes out the republican candidates mouths. so before you berate the Masons why don't you stop by a masonic temple and maybe get to know some of the people there.

Brownback is just plain pityful.

I guess Brownback has to do something to attract publicity to himself when virtually NOBODY is paying attention to his campaign or taking him very seriously as a presidential candidate. Don't we have more important fish to fry?

Brownback and Romney are absolute tools---when will people see this? vote Ron Paul for 2008! All the other candidates are for 1984!

If the community helped with genealogy without desiring profit and additional database expansion, (its mainstream software has entries for multiple wives)if it volunteered around the world vs being on a mission, if its public readings spoke of equality and if its founder and contemporary followers did not claim to be of more significant importance than Abraham it might have credibility with me.
If there were many from Provo in the West Wing, with recent elimination of checks and balances, it would be even more nervous. Why, companies like Overture.

FreeThinker07...Oldest? Maybe, maybe not. Largest, they are working on it. The truth would be that the Freemasons are just the Knights Templar going under a new name. You can not deny the symbolism that adorns their ritual rooms. Like you can not deny the symbolism found on the Mormon temple. And no matter what the lower level participants believe they are doing as far as be it good or be it not so good. The people at the top understand who the "creator" (your word) is that they worship. I would recommend the book RULE BY SECRECY by Jim Marrs myself. Loaded with sourced information. And by the way. Secrets is secrets. And the Freemasons are a "secret society" without a doubt.

It is evident, in deed, that tumberweedin knows nothing about Freemasonry. It is the oldest and largest fraternity in the world. It is a philanthropic organization. It is not a secret organization. It is an organization with some secrets. These are kept out of respect for the members and from tradition. It is not a religion. But you cannot be accepted as a member unless you believe in the Creator. Now, if that sounds evil to you, then no explanation will suffice. Perhaps you can purchase a copy of Freemasonry for Dummies. Seriously, it's a fine introduction to the subject, written by a respected Freemason.

I am a Kansan who has voted for Brownback in the past. I will probably not do so again. I am appalled by the almost casual nonchalance with which Brownback treats the issue. I watched the linked video, and Mr. Brownback, the "other candidate" you speak of has a name. It is Mitt Romney. So, instead of giving the staffer a "reprimand" (translation: slap on the wrist) and calling "the other candidate," maybe you could actually take actions that count- fire the staffer and apologize to MITT ROMNEY.
You better believe that if the staffer were challenging Obama for his race or Hillary for her gender, there would be hell to pay. I simply can't believe the double standards that are applied to Mr. Romney and his religion. This is a sad day and age indeed.

Since when did the Freemasons become a religion? Believe me. I know what I am talking about here. I have studied these things for more than twenty years. And many of my family mambers were Freemasons. Why don't you do a little google search on Mormons and Freemasons and the satanic symbolism they use. I am not saying that they are the only ones. Just that this is what I have found through many hours of research. Many books. Many hours. And many conversations with those in the know. What we think we know...we don't always know. The Freemasons were infiltrated by the Illuminati around 1776. WOW! There is a year to remember. I could go on for you. But don't believe me. Don't trust me. Find out on your own. I don't force my beliefs on anybody. Because to me that would be nothing more than psychological fascism. You have your own mind. Just be carefull what you feed it.

Wow tumbleweedin, you know nothing at all about the Freemasons or the Mormons. It is evident in your comments. Please read a little more on those two religions before you make comments. I am sure you got your information from people who are bitter about both entities.

They probably found out they are both Freemasons. Mormons were founded by a very high degree Freemason. The symbolism is all over their temple. Pentagrams and sun symbolism and the like. Pretty much what I have come to understand to be satanic symbolism. You know that the very first third party was the Anti-Masonic Party. And I am starting to understand why that is.
