Farewell to the "turd blossom"

August 13, 2007 9:41 AM

In his inimitable style, presidential aide Karl Rove this morning knocked the Iowa Straw Poll victors Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee off the political headlines today to tell his pal Paul Gigot at the Wall Street Journal that he's leaving the White House. (LINK).

"I just think it's time," Rove said.Abc_karl_rove_070813_bl

The so-called "Architect" (the president's other nickname for him: "turd blossom LINK) has left quite a legacy -- winning back-to-back presidential election victories, historically picking up seats in the 2002 mid-terms, leading the political charge for a Medicare prescription drug benefit, tax cuts, and education reform.

President Bush came to Washington, DC, promising to change the tone and the tone has changed -- it's worse. Rove, and his political tactics, are partly to blame for that. And despite his protestations that the GOP would hold on to the House and Senate in 2006 -- he told one NPR reporter that the reporter was entitled to his math, but Rove was entitled to THE math -- he shuffles out leaving the president with a hostile Democratic-controlled Congress, failures on immigration and Social Security reform, and two wars not going so hot.

What do you think of Rove?

Leo Strauss (regarded as one of the intellectual sources of U.S. neoconservatism) taught the idea that perpetual deception of citizens by those in power is critical because they need to be led, and need “strong” rulers to tell them what's good for them. Rove has been a smirking example of this elitist attitude. Goodbye.

Good riddance to Carl Rove. Only an absolute fool would continue to defend or support the transgressions of the Bush administration. Denial changes nothing. It is neither noble nor patriotic to guard the door whilst the fox raids the hen-house.

The 'tone' in Washington will continue to be the 'tone' we see as long as the structure of the political parties and elections are as they are designed currently. But for the time candidates are seeking election, there is very little incentive for them to work with people from the opposing party. An individual that works with members from the other party is regognized as a traitor to the purists in his or her party. Each party wants all the credit for any progress, because that helps them stay in office/power. The tone of Karl Rove is NO different than the tones of James Carville and Paul Begala, so don't fool yourself Jake. We rarely see Karl Rove being interviewed or making commentary. We constantly saw Carville and Begala -- and I don't remember anyone being nearly as spiteful as James Carville.

Karl Rove's resignation:
Face it Bush beat you at your game!!!
Bet you did not see this coming!!! Who are you going to pick on now?!?

Well, the president certainly never had a brain. Let's give him, the administration and the neocons credit. They have created a more dangerous world - hint - those that struck on 9-11 are not and were not in Iraq. They are between Afghanistan and Pakistan - where they train openly and use the Iraq war as an excuse to recruit fresh candidates. So, for all of you brain dead admirers of what this administration has done and are hoping for more of the same, move to Iraq. There are still billions of US Dollars to be had. I'm certain with your political leanings a position with Halliburton can be made available to you.

Well done, Mr. Tapper! While the resignation of M. Rove is being used by the media as a time to reflect on the man's political cunning, you are among the few (so far) to provide some critical analysis. Recent testimony at the Roberto Gonzales hearings has made it abundantly clear that through 'voter caging' our last two general elections were very likely stolen, especially in Florida (2000) and Ohio (2004). Rather than bestowing praise on 'the Architect' and 'the Brain', the media, the public and our elected leaders should be demanding an investigation into the obvious collusion between the GOP and manufacturers of voting machinery. Why aren't more 'patriots', particularly those on the Right asking these same questions?

I'm surprised people aren't dancing in the streets over this news. But probably they don't believe he'll REALLY be gone anymore than I do. This idiot has done more damage to the constitution than any previous administration. I'm disgusted to call myself an American.

good riddance to another hate-mongering, war waging.

Well we should all Thank Mr. rove for his great service to our country. His work in helping the President try to bring people together even with the anti-American libs who are trying to split this country.

He is a Great man.

Chuck As far as Kerry, one that was not him, but actual heros's from Vietnam, and please state what was Fabricated, see saying something is fabricated does not prove anything, see there are tapes of Kerry betraying our Country, and actually I would put his treason at a higher level the Jane fonda's.
Why wouldn't Kerry release his records, maybe because what said is true?

Usually in all Presidential terms a lot of advisers resign to move on, Unfortunately President Bush can not run for a Third term, so Rove wants time with his family. i know Libs do not care about family that is why is hard for them to understand.

Bush owns you. Don't fear the advisors, as they can simply be reloaded.

It is Bush who masters you. Fear Bush.

LOL.

liberals and other lefty combinations need people to hate as a crutch for their failures.

Turd blossom indeed; this stinks to high heaven...why is it that when the going gets rough, they always quit 'for the family'?

If I were to tell you what I really think of Karl Rove, I'm afraid my comments would be expurgated. Instead, I'll credit him for beint a brilliant political strategist whose expertise is smear campaigns (two of his most notorious: the fabricated doubts about Ann Richards' sexuality and the utter fabrications against John Kerrey's military record) and as partisan as they come. His legacy is exactly what you stated, Jake: "a hostile Democratic-controlled Congress, failures on immigration and Social Security reform, and two wars not going so hot."
