Craig should not have to resign as what he did had nothing to do with his job or position of authority. Doesn't solicitation mean money or a promise of money has to change hands? Not just shoes? It is a public nuisance and certainly fineable and the person bothered by it could file an assualt charge of some type I suppose if they were damaged in some way. But this is supposed to be 2007 not the puritanical 1950's. Frankly, this happens a certain amount in the natural state of human's being human as that is why they had staked out this bathroom. So what is the big surprise? I have no desire to ruin someone's life over this outlying behavior as to me its just eccentric and odd but not a crime crime. I would rather opt for maximal freedom where possible rather than punative micro-control of all aspects of people's behavior. I would rather know nothing about other people's sexual behavior as long as they are polite and responsible about it. The republicans' are bad enough, but its a show of weakness to go after them for this. The officer involved was not a paige, not an intern, not on the senators payroll. So just how does that make it our business?

Chuck, chuck chuck - See when the Dems/libs overlook their own party members missteps and then try to attack Republicans even before proof is rendered is Hypocrisy at its best.

If you look up Hypocrisy you will see a picture of Clinton.

Oh by the way I brought up a bunch of others below! I put Clinton because you brought up Abramoff.

I know a Dem can steal if they want.

Question: How can you tell when you've upset a conservative with your views?

Answer: You can tell when you've Upset a conservative with your views when the response begins with "What about Clinton...?"

chuck - what about the Clinton/ Shu which is turning into a bigger issue, Also Abramoff dealing were with the Libs also. (Reid, Murtha and so on) This was a Congress Scandal, but the press just attacked Republicans, Reaid got more money from Abramoff that anyone else, but remember he said he was meant to get it so he did not need to return it.

What did Delay do? The Law that he supposedly broke was not even on the books when he supposedly did it. He has been cleared of most of it so far.

Spock, you are most certainly right in proclaiming that the Republicans stand for something. After the Tom DeLay/Jack Abramoff fiasco, it looks like they'll stand for anything!

SteveW - ur right but should we not wait to pronounce guilt

I still dont understand the crime, because tapping a foot and touching a foot is not solicitation. Know do I think he was trying to pick up probably, should he resign probably, but we should not listen to the libs but our own opinion.

James--I agree about Feinstein. Spock--ditto about Reid. But, as you know, sympathy and 'get out of jail cards' for criminal, immoral, or unethical conduct that further soils a political office or body is reserved for Democrats. So what about a perceived 'double standard' applied to Sen. Craig. Republicans like me don't stand for conduct like Sen. Craig's. He had better resign, get the help he needs, and stop denying the obvious or face a lifetime of deserved ridicule.

Chuck, another correction: Sen. Specter actually spoke to Sen. Craig before his press conference. Then in his press conference, Sen. Craig said, "I intend to resign." The operative word being "intend."

And adding one more item to Spock's list, what about Sen. Feinstein of California? She was the ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Military Construction Appropriations for a number of years before becoming the chairwoman in January. But at the end of March, she stepped down from the chair and resigned from the subcommittee when it became known -- through the Internet -- that she had a huge conflict of interest the entire time. Her husband's two construction companies received billions of dollars in contracts. AND, apparently, on a few occasions Sen. Feinstein took an active role in how the money was to be spent. Yet, most mainstream media outlets have refused to even cover this story, including all of the San Francisco Bay area papers.

ahhhh...the Kennedy card. The sign of the truly desperate.

chuck - Criag pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct NOT solicitation first of all.

Secondly at least the Republicans stand for something and if a member of the party is found guilty of wrong doing is pushed to resign. But lets see and take a look at the double standard -

All dem/libs -

1 - Clinton - Perjury - outcome - Dem/libs treat as a Hero
2 - Clinton - Threatening witnesses - Treat as a Hero
3 - Hilary Clinton - Whitewater anyone !!
4 - Sen Byrd - KKK Recruiter - Honored
5 - Congessman Jefferson - Cold Cash - Put in charge of commitee for FBI
6 - Sen Reid - Cash For Land - Made head of Senate
7 - Feingold (or Stein) - Pushing through contracts with with companies Husband is involved with

And a whole lot more -

Lets not forget Ted Kennedy - Murder!

Yes Craig was stupid for pleading, but lets not forget he was a target of the Left Gay Groups constantly and maybe truthfully thought to take this plea to quiet it up. He has never admitted to solicitation or to wanting sex

But again is not solicitation - looking for sex for money or similar benefit?

You libs always claim that people are coerced into pleading guilty dont you?

Again as I said before if he is guilty he should resign and the same goes for above Dems

awesome. Keep fighting the good fight Larry! Lets drag this one out as long as possible. I see an ethical investigation on the horizon, and additional accusers coming out of the woodwork.

I am a Republican, however I do not believe in protection for a person that has pleaded Guilty to a crime!
This horrible person should do the right thing and RESIGN.
On the other hand I also believe that a person that was under suspicion and found to have marked money in his freezer should be relieved of his duties immediately and restored to public service only when he is cleared of all charges.

Hmmm. Let me see if I understand all of what has happened and what is now happening.

1) Sen. Craig was arrested for solicitation in an airport bathroom and pled guilty to put the case behind him.
2) But if you're innocent, you don't plead guilty, even if you think that the case against you is more of a nuiscance suit. 3) But the senator did plead guilty and apparently thought that he could keep this mess quiet. 4) But this incident leaked to the press anyway and embarrassed the senator, his family, his party and everyone concerned. 5) So the senator accepted the pressure on him and said he would resign. 6) But after Sen. Spector stated that he thought the Sen. Craig was being railroaded, Sen. Craig denied that he was in the bathroom for solicitation and said he'd fight the charges and fight for his seat. 7) But Sen. Craig was already found guilty of solicitation by a court of competent jurisdiction. 8) But the senator desperately wants to stay in the Senate, so he's tryng to have the verdict vacated. 9) And now, the court said it won't make a decision until next week. 10) So Sen. Craig will remain on the job until the court rules, despite his previous statement that he'd leave by the end of September. 11) Sen. Craig is a Republican, the self-proclaimed party of family values, keeping one's word, high morality, ethics, and all of those other worthwhile attributes. Is it just me or is Sen. Craig one of the biggest putzes ever to have held national office?
