Regarding Democrats pouncing on conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh, Mr. Limbaugh today claimed he's being smeared and his reference to "phony soldiers" was about someone who specifically faked a war record NOT veterans who oppose the war.
Read the original Limbaugh comments yourself and decide if he's being smeared or he's currently spinning.
Speaking of Limbaugh, the four Democratic leaders of the Senate -- Harry Reid of Nevada, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Chuck Schumer of New York and Patty Murray of Washington -- have written a letter to the CEO of Clear Channel complaining that "(t)housands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast. We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a 'phony soldier.' We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments."
Regarding our coverage of the Biden amendment the other day -- an amendment the Bush White House opposed then, after it passed the Senate 75-23, questionably claimed to support -- there is some reaction indicating the amendment is not as benign as the Bush White House tried to make it sound.
ABC News State Department reporter Kirit Radia writes that the Iraqi Ambassador to the US "offers a scathing review of the Biden amendment saying 'The non-binding resolution passed by the Senate on Wednesday, September 26th implicitly calling for the partitioning of Iraq into three separate entities along ethnic and sectarian lines, will not help to preserve Iraq; rather, it could lead to the break up of Iraq. It is not a solution; it could complicate rather than simplify a difficult situation.'
He adds: 'Congress must not be seen to undermine the will of the very people it helped to empower. This resolution will not hasten the day American troops come home, which is a goal shared by Iraqis and Americans. If actively pursued, partitioning will do just the opposite.'"

Neither Schumer nor Reid have any military experience and are professional politicians. I doubt if either one was even a Boy Scout...they are CLUELESS and do not know RUSH like we know RUSH...they are hopelessly grasping for straws...Both of those Boobs are arrogant George Soros sycophants...

Yeah Jake, what about that? I certainly think Bill and Al were beneficiaries of the first Bush invasion, and were merely parroting what they were fed. As far as proving there was no fire, what do you think weapons inspectors found? They found nothing, and certainly Hans Blix was standing and voicing that concern. These Bush criminals need to stand trial,

Any of them resign yet??

41 Lib Senators need to resign, they condem a man for a speech they never heard, but yet do not condem them selves.
They have proven they work for George Soros and not the American People.
Reid Resign NOW!

"Limbaugh's comments about the fake vet were 1 minute and 45 seconds away from the phony soldiers remark."
Which is exactly how long it took him to complete the call in which he made the remark. Explaining "fake soldiers" was the very first thing he did after terminating the call.

James Danley - Good point but the media never admits to using them. Even though now we know for fact Hilary created media matters too, from her own admission.

I agree with Ray's comment below; Rush is being smeared by "Phony Senators"; also Harry Reid should get his butt out of the Senate and take his "Little Dick" (Dick Durbin) with him; Senator Dubin should also apologized for his nasty comments about U.S. Troops in Cua guarding the terrorists. These Democratics are total wimps! Just as their Presidential contenders.....Clinton, Obama and Edwards...total wimps, never served in the military and will make the United States very weak if any of these hacks get elected...thank God they will not get elected; America is too smart for that.

Rush is being smeared by "Phony Senators"!!!!! Harry Reid is a Jack-Ass and he knows that Rush Limbaugh did not insult U.S. Troops; Rush was talking about the "same phoney soldier" that ABC News -Brian Ross, did a story aout just 3 days prior to Rush Limbaugh stating the same phony soldier story. These Democratics led by Harry Reid (who has insulted U.S. Troops by stating they lost the war in Iraq) are so far in bed with Media Matters and Move On. Com it is sickening. Harry Reid please do the United States a huge favor and resign; please go back to what ever land deal you came from...also on you way out apologize to Rush Limbaugh for slandering him.

It would seem that politics and political discussion are no longer the territory of groups of differing opinions trying to reach an agreement or accomodation through honest discussion and compromise, but rather an infintely infantile game of "can you top this" when it comes to expressions of outrage.
The game seems to be played by someone saying or doing something which could be interpreted in more than one way; someone else interpreting it in the worst possible way, proclaiming offense, and demanding a blanket apology covering everything from the Original Sin on out; still others hearing bits and pieces of the whole story and freely offering their ill-conceived and/or ill-founded opinions, all the while manifesting more outrage; the originator of the action or message either sheepishly apologizing or adamantly refusing, depending on the amount of offense taken; and finally, the requester of the apology becoming more incensed or only slightly mollified, depending on what the "wrongdoer" did.
Reasonable people can reason together where no one has to be "right" or "wrong," but whenever the outrage game is played, as Mr. Limbaugh knows all too well in this tempest in a tea pot, reason is the first to be sacrificed.

The word "soldier" in the mouth of Limbaugh is like the word "love" in the mouth of a pimp.

Now that Media Matters has been exposed for their lies and distortions regarding Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, maybe the mainstream news media will now think twice before blindly using groups like Media Matters as a news source. Every news agency that reported Media Matters' claims has been tainted. Their credibility has been damaged. Is this the type of journalism that we want from the mainstream media? It's one thing to have a biased and slanted viewpoint, it's quite another to report lies and distortions as the truth. Of course it now begs the question: What other lies and distortions by Media Matters have been disseminated by the mainstream media?

Just days before Rush Limbaugh was attacked by a number of press outlets for discussing "phony soldiers" on the air, ABC's Brian Ross did a segment on "World News with Charles Gibson" dealing with "phony heroes...scam artists...posing as the war heroes they never were, claiming credit for acts of courage in Iraq and Afghanistan."
Marvelously, this story was aired on Monday, September 24, just two days before Limbaugh made his comments. And, as noted in a NewsBusters posting by the MRC's Brent Baker, the report even mentioned the same "phony soldier," Jesse Macbeth (pictured to the right), that Limbaugh did on his program Wednesday.
Will media attack ABC with the same zeal they did Limbaugh? Maybe even more important, will House Democrats offer a resolution to condemn Ross, Gibson, and everyone involved in ABC's report?
How easily the truth can be hidden by those with an agenda, and how easily these half truths are swallowed with kool-aid!!

Hush Bimbo is such a loser that you wonder when his doting radio listeners will take heed. The collapse of the republicans is self-evident but not covered by the Constitution. The PGA TOUR needs to be embarassed that they fawn as he tours the fairways with our nations finest golfers. Tiger Woods loves the military and goes to play games with them, but when the dolt in the whitewash house ruins the military is there a peep from Tiger Woods or HUSH BIMBO? What is this world coming to????? BILE OHREALLY and HUSH BIMBO are getting smeared?????

Limbaugh is a disgrace. He can spin it all he wants but his intention was clear. He is so used to insulting and abusing people as well as lying so he sometimes forgets who he is attacking.

I HATE "freedom of speech", oh, wait, I'm for liberalizing the government TOWARD the PEOPLE, OOPS, amibad?

ABC's Charlie Gibson did a report on PHONY Soldiers on 9/24 with Brian Ross investigating.
This is so funny and makes everyone except Rush Limbaugh look foolish.

spock,Libs have rights in America, same as you. If you don't like "Freedom of Speech", maybe you should become a Republican.

I heard this live and I re-read the transcript. What is the media obsession with Rush? He terrifies them; that's what is it.
The transcript shows exactly WHO he was speaking of. Get over it. Limbaugh is one of the biggest supporters of our troops in many many ways.
Rush gets this.... and guys like Reid, Durbin, and Kerry who have called them Murderers, Losers, get a pass??! What?!
Our media's liberal colors are showing once again.

Personally, I prefer to watch football on Sunday. But, you go, girls. BTW Rush-hating Libs---I can't list all the school-yard quality names you call Rush, but if he is all those things you came up with at your virtual posting-party, if his opinion is an intellectual no-show like you wish, then what he said wouldn't be an issue, now would it? One can't have it both ways, even though Libs have been making a living on that logical fallacy for years.

So if you are against the war you cannot be a real Republican. Then if you are a soldier against the war you must have come out of the blue according to the caller and Flush agrees: phony soldiers.
That there are opportunist who pretend to be soldiers and impose themselves on other groups does nothing to change the point that many soldiers have come forth to criticize the war in Iraq.
Flush is arguing that since Al Qaeda is now in Iraq we must stay there: he does neglect to point out that it is Bushs's creation of a failed state which
allowed them to get there in the first place. If we left Iraq it would be run by the majority Shiites who might massacre their Sunni neighbors. What the Shiites wouldn't do is enable Sunni Al Qaeda which refers to the Shiites as the near enemy.
Flush doesn't see getting our American troops killed over there and creating more enemies for the US (with the help of Blackwater --despised by the soldiers) as reasons for getting out.
