As news about the legal troubles of Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, comes to something of a climax, a doctor's group has launched a TV ad mocking the controversy surrounding the embattled conservative in an attempt to bring attention to childhood obesity.
The ad from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, called "Dirty Little Secret," features a politician in a bathroom stall tap-tap-tapping his foot as a secret signal he wants to receive money from the pork industry -- represented in the commercial by a large pink pig.
The ad -- which will be shown on CNN -- can be watched HERE.
"The real scandal in Washington is the Farm Bill," Dr. Neal Barnard, the president of PCRM, said in a statement. "Senators take millions from corporations that produce bacon, burgers, and other fatty foods. Then Congress buys up these unhealthy products and dumps them on our school lunch program. Companies get rich, and kids get fat."

This is a State and individual Issue not a Federal issue. The schools by me have lunches that fall under the healthy aspects. They got rid of the soda and items.
The problem with obesity in this country -
1 - It is not as bad as we are lead to believe, They keep changing the bar.
2 - Maybe if the schools would have Gym classes again and make them true to excercise just not the 15 minutes they give. (this is after the 10-15 minutes before they actually start and the 5-10 minutes after so kid could change)
3 - More after school activities
4 - Towns should have places for kids to do things, my town pretty much got rid of all activity places, a roller rink, a bowling alley. the closet ones are too far for kids to walk to know.
5 - Parents need to stop driving their older kids to school when the school is only a mile or two away.
6 - Stop having fast food everyday only once in a blue moon.
It is called personal responsibility, soon the government will want to tell you how to dress. Stop the move to Socialism and take Personal Responsibility.

I am glad somebody with money has the guts to take on BIG BUSINESS and the lobbyist and the cash collectors in the Senate. In case, you wondered why the USA is so obese, we got our eating cues from the food pyramid used by farmers to fatten livestock. OK Flock, after the AMENS can I get a MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

Funny commercial, but I'd just bet that Sen. Craig isn't laughing much at it.

I would hope this would teach people about the larger problem - the reason government is incapable of doing ANYTHING well. They will always be for sale to the highest political contributor - this could just have easily been vegetable farmers pushing children to an all-vegetable diet that would be just as damaging. Any time an expose shows how one corporation was buying influence, it just happened because another corporation wanted things swung their way instead. Who is behind the exposes about big polluters buying the right to pollute for free? Why, it's the corporations who want the government to subsidize their phony solutions to the pollution problem. The lesson - GOVERNMENT DOESN'T SOLVE PROBLEMS.

Great ad! It’s about time for someone to expose the dirty relationship between agribusiness PAC money and senators who draft the Farm Bill. The central point made in this commercial is valid and true: as cheap, unhealthy foods are dumped on schools, our nation’s kids become fat. In turn, we all bear the burden as our nation’s rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease skyrocket. U.S. subsidies need to be dramatically revamped to facilitate the consumption of nutritious foods—-fruits, vegetables, and whole grains—-that are known to promote good health.

Great ad! Very funny! Too bad the Farm Bill doesn't get more attention in the news--it's a serios issue. I am so glad that CNN is going to show it and that this commerical will help bring attention to the bill. It really needs to be changed. I hope the Senate makes significant improvements to it. You can send an e-mail to your senator on the PCRM Web site.

That's a funny commercial! And what a clever way to call attention to this problem. Why on earth is our federal government dumping high-fat foods on the school lunch program? I've heard it's all because of the Farm Bill. No wonder doctors are upset by this!
