He's heavy

October 01, 2007 9:55 AM

Over the weekend, a number of highly influential Christian conservative leaders chatted in earnest about the Republican presidential field. Their conclusion: they may be willing to go third-party should an abortion-rights supporter such as Rudy Giuliani become the GOP nominee. READ MORE HERE.

Yesterday was the deadline for the 3rd quarter Federal Election Commission filings from the presidential campaigns. We're still waiting for the campaigns to let us know how much they raised, but Giuliani's GOP rival Mitt Romney, the Washington Post notes, has given himself (loaned himself?) one out of every four dollars in his campaign coffers …

The Democratic field is interesting in its way, if only for how quiet it seems right now, with Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, having solidified her lead. Tomorrow Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is scheduled to deliver an address on the fifth anniversary of his anti-Iraq-war speech … Time to step it up, sir.

What are you waiting for?

In regard to Giuliani, I think it would be really positive for the democrats if Christian Conservative leaders did support a third-party candidate. If there are two Conservative candidates this would (if we harken back to the days of Ross Perot and Bush Sr.) split the republican vote and give the democratic candidate a much better chance of being elected. As for funding, Clinton has attracted at least 7,000 more new donors than Obama and has actively exceeded his funding. I doubt he will be able to turn things around.

First of all I do not believe this story, since they are definitely not voting for the Dem. I think it is a hit job by the libs to silence the vote!

In his book "Tempting Faith," David Kuo was one of the first to clearly demonstrate the disappointment and dissatisfaction the Religious Right has with the current Repub authority figures. It's no surprise that a lot of the Religious Right are now swearing off the Repubs, especially given the current crop of uninspiring (figuratively and literally) candidates. It's payback time, where anyone who wants the Religious Right's votes will have to toe that ideological line, or else!

And as for Sen. Obama, Cordelia is right on the money!

I don't think Obama is waiting for anything. He's just not great at campaigning. I don't think that's going to change.
