Valued Voters

October 19, 2007 10:02 AM

Good morning!

The GOP presidential candidates trek to the Washington Hilton today to speak to conservative Christian voters at the Family Research Council's "Values Voter Summit."

Every one of the frontrunners -- Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Sen. John McCain and Fred Thompson -- has had trouble solidifying this important voting bloc, for any number of reasons.

As we reported last night Mr.. Romney will go after Giuliani as too much "like Hillary Clinton" in his remarks this evening…

Unspoken will be the issues some evangelicals have with Mormons, such as Dr. Robert Jeffress at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Thompson is taking the approach that he is the only REAL conservative, a la his web ad on the right side of the conservative website Human Events, where he quotes Romney from 1994 and Giuliani from 1999 to buttress the argument that his views have not wavered, unlike some.

McCain will again imply that Romney is "con"ning conservatives with his changes in views over the years…

And who knows what Giuliani will say! Prediction: he will emphasize areas where he and conservative Christians agree (fiscal issues, Hillary mockery, anti-terrorism) and paraphrase Ronald Reagan saying "my 80 percent friend is not my 20 percent enemy."

The FRC's Tony Perkins says Giuliani just needs to show up, which he is scheduled to do on Saturday. "He's dehorned by coming," Perkins says.

Onward, Christian soldiers!

What say you about this gathering?

I have a question for DKNY - "My values dictate that government can and should help the least well off among us. That is why I will not be voting for a Republican candidate." WHY? Don't you think there are opportunities for all of us (lease well off included) to succeed? I worked two jobs to get through college and you know what I ended up with - a degree and a good job and a HUGE student loan. This has since been paid, but I find it insulting that the "least well off" got a free ride in college - leaving with a degree and no student loan to repay. How is that fair? I also believe that it's insulting to most people with any kind of pride to "take the free ride". I believe that what they want is NOT a free ride, but a job. They want to work. Let's talk about creating jobs, stimulating the economy, and lowering taxes - THE REPUBLICAN WAY!!!

I was raised a Roman Catholic,,I spent two years in a Catholic School..and Church was a serious act in our young family..I think that I maintained a more involved mental attitude than my siblings..my Grandmother would pray every day..I kept religious articles in my bedroom..I have always wondered about how to "use" Christ..I can remember when I stopped praying..because when a young person I prayed so much--one day I just said--stop,,and let's see what has been done..
I was 13-years old then/and still have that same PENNEY..I think that being Christian has always become involved in PAIN--and my motivations looked at OTHERS..that has been a main-stay on simplicity in this day..and I think Christianity has evoled a really good sense of simple basic assumptions to look at and draw from..I can remember VOTING for Ronald Reagan and it was about the pain of a cluttered Society..when I VOTED for H.W Bush it was more about answering the questions of right&wrong..it was important to have the politics to use this quality..later..the war got all the attention..and right&wrong became a Super POWER..if having a political RIGHT WING is all about Christ--it is a good thing in my use of the word POLITICS..but when you consider how America's get to the BALLOT BOX/I think that Christ is last on mminds..HOW THAT HAS EVOLVED..??..is a very small group/consider the NOISE.

I'm also a value voter, but I am an atheist. My values dictate that government can and should help the least well off among us. That is why I will not be voting for a Republican candidate.

I am Christian, but don't go to one of the relatively new, politically-active mega-churches. I consider myself a 'value voter', but I would not belong to that group. I think there are many, many more voters out there like me. Good Reagan quote, Jake. That about sums it up for me. Whoever the GOP's nominate will probably be facing a woman who knew her husband was a sex addict, helped him lie about it, and helped him ruin the lives of victims who had the guts to speak out about him. Other than Socialist, which she can't admit to until she's elected, she is nothing--with no core 'values' at all. She and her husband stick their fingers up to the political wind before they make any move---and you know which finger they use, pointed at us. The 'value voters' turned the last two Presidential elections--surprising most of the media. They are a powerful force. If they cling to 'one-issue' voting, they will turn this election, too---but not in their favor.

Ron Paul is the only choice if you are voting for the future of the United States. He is what we need.

The problem here is there are people out there that are one issue voters, they ignore the whole picture. There is no candidate that you are going to agree with 100%. When voting you got to ask yourself in what direction you want the country to go.

In 2008 we will have a clear choice and one that will last for generations which is -

Do we want to become a socialist Country under a lib or do we want our Liberties restored?
