Pardon?

November 15, 2007 9:52 AM

We take a look this morning at the campaign cash the Hillary Clinton campaign has been given by three recipients of her husband's controversial 11th hour pardons.

It's not illegal," Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, told ABC News. "But, of course, it's inappropriate and she should return the money. It does raise the appearance that this is payback."

james your right, but in the case of Marc Rich his family donated large sums of money to Hilary's Senate run at the same time of the pardons

Yes I would rather her take the donation from them instead of the terrorists and China she has been.

Iran-Contra DKNY - that was a ploy by the liberals back then.

Lets not forget the questionable pardon to
Mark Rich who was on the run and not even convicted yet.

And what about the terrorists Bill pardoned, the cop killer and so on!

DKNY - Hilary was running for Senate at the time of those pardons, and Rich helped with the jewish vote.

Bush the first--1981 (former CIA chief turned VP) to 1993 (last four years as Pres.). Bill (figurehead Pres.)--1993-2001. Bush the second--2001-2009. Hillary Clinton (actual Pres.)--1993-2001, and 2009-2017. Thats 36 YEARS of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton. You talk about Bill's 'midnight oil' pardons-for-sale??--the vicious character assasinations of Bill's sexual abuse victims???--Hillary was in on it all. You talk about the Federal Government in the illegal drug/weapons business??--Bush the first. You talk about a Republican abandoning his party's ideals to support amnesty for illegals and dollar-destroying defecits???--Bush the second. Are you really surprised when Hillary takes money from convicted criminals pardoned by her husband in a blatant, money-grubbing, White House-debasing scandal? It IS NOT A NON-STORY. It is a perfect example of how power corrupts. A vote for Hillary in a Democratic primary, or even in a telephone opinion poll is a vote for more corruption, and more scandal. 36 STRAIGHT YEARS OF THIS??? Makes me wanna puke.

James, you're just realizing this now? In fairness to him, he's made posts critical of Edwards and Obama too. But they never have that undercurrent of glee. (oh it's there.)

Sen. Hillary Clinton received basically a free pass by the mainstream media until the last debate. Then, deservedly so, the media turned on her a bit. But this latest (non-)story makes me wonder if ABC News has suddenly become the Anyone But Clinton News network! Jake, I'm just wondering!

of course it was a quid pro quod. How better to say thank you for springing them from the big house. Plus, it probably counts as pre-payment for future pardons. Oh and this is why dynasties are a bad idea. Bill scratches their back; Hill gets the windfall of dirty money. The result: "it's legal." Which may be true, but it's not moral.

While, in terms of chutzpah, no pardons granted by Clinton even approached the pardon given by the first President Bush to Caspar Weinberger, who actually might have had information incriminating Bush in connection wth the Iran/Contra scandal, I agree with James Danley. Even a pardoned individual is free to make a political donitaion. Besides, hard to imagine there was any quid pro quo when the pardons were made eight years ago, at which time Hillary Clinton wasn't even running for office.

I don't much care for President Bill Clinton or Sen. Hillary Clinton -- ideologically or as individuals. And I certainly believe that some of the last minute pardons that President Clinton handed out appear to be tainted. But this is a total non-story. Once a person has been pardoned, he or she still has the constitutional right to make political contributions to whomever he or she chooses. Give me a break!
