Anti-Romney 527 Launches TV Ad

December 22, 2007 11:33 AM

American Right to Life Action -- a 527 group that believes National Right to Life Committee is too soft, and describes itself as existing "to provide leadership in the fight to advocate enforcement of God's enduring command, Do not murder (Luke 18:20)" -- announced this week it has started running a TV ad against Mitt Romney on the Fox News Channel in Iowa.

The ad can be viewed HERE or HERE.

The script reads:

Once upon a time there was a man named Mitt who said a very bad thing:

Romney: "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country"

Then he thought of campaigning in Utah and said something different. "I am NOT pro-choice!"

But when he came back to liberal Massachusetts:

Romney: "I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose."

Then in 2004 he magically became pro-life, but only six months later:

Romney: "I am absolutely committed to my promise to maintain the status quo with regards to law related to abortion and choice."

The spell must have worn off.

Now he's on the campaign trail again, and he's back to being pro-life.

Romney: "I was pro-choice; I'm pro-life." ... "I changed my position" ... "I never said I was pro-choice."

Narrator: BR: Mitt Romney, willing to sacrifice children, lying for your vote.

Paid for by American Right-to-Life Action.

Kevin Madden, Romney campaign spokesman, says in response: "Governor Romney is firmly pro-life and he believes that the Republican Party must be a party that stands up for and protects the sanctity of life.   Like Ronald Reagan before him, Governor Romney has changed on the issue, but he has changed in the right direction. He will not apologize for being pro-life and he is grateful for those advocates of the pro-life movement who have welcomed him and support his pro-life position.   The pro-life movement is successful when it works to change hearts and minds. "

I was able to confront Romney face-to-face when he visited Michigan. I told him I was conceived in rape and almost aborted and that I didn't appreciate his position on abortion. He said, "I'm pro-life" and tried to walk away. I challenged him: "Then why does RNC for Life say you're not. What about Roe v Wade?" Romney replied, "I support the overturn of Roe v Wade." I don't know where he really stands, but why risk it? I'm supporting Huckabee who has an sterling pro-life without exceptions track record.

Adam and Kevin,

You need to WATCH the ad -- the point is that he's changed back and forth. He's pro-abortion, then he makes a "conversion" to be pro-life... THEN he makes ANOTHER conversion back to being pro-abortion, and pledging to use his power to defend the "right of abortion". Then, when he wants to run for President in a party where most voters are pro-life, he switches back again. He's a liar. Plain and simple. He's NOT pro-life -- he's just pretending. Don't be lied to!

Sad, while men and women who know abortion is murder argue, abortionists and their politician friends smile with support from nearly all the major media personnel. What a sad state our morality and media has reached. Millions of babies die while two industries profit.

I never heard of this group before even when there were many cases they should be heard and help when needed.Instead of saving lives now they're crying for the destruction of lives.Mitt Romney is for the side of life so what's their purpose destroy more lives.

We have no reason to believe that Mitt has changed his stance as a personal decision. We have every reason to believe he changed his position to win votes for the election.

For someone to have flipped his position so close to the 2008 election seems too convenient to be sincere. Romney comes from a democratic state of panderers. First John Kerry and now Mitt Romney. Mitt will say anything to get elected where my guy Mike Huckabee won't. He'll tell you that if you don't like his stance, don't vote for him. Mike is sincere and a true Christian Conservative! People can't see through him because they see only him. He is sincere and true to his beliefs whether folks like them or not. When I look at Mitt Romney, I don't know what to believe.

Kevin Madden just said it best: "The pro-life movement is successful when it works to change hearts and minds."

Shouldn't these people be happy that Romney changed? Aren't they trying to bring people to their cause?

He was always pro-life personally but thought government should be pro-choice, he's changed on that as he's grown in government. He's not a lifetime politician.
