December 11, 2007 7:45 AM

Political Punch has gotten a copy of the new anti-Obama literature about health care policy that Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, is dropping in New Hampshire.

See the positive side of the flier pertaining to her HERE which promises "HEALTH CARE FOR EVERY AMERICAN" and says "HILLARY CLINTON. THE ONLY CANDIDATE READY TO LEAD."

(Really? No one else is ready to lead? No one? John McCain isn't ready to lead? Joe Biden and Chris Dodd?)

… And see the negative side pertaining to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, HERE where you will see highlighted: "incompleteness … wouldn't cover everyone … wrong on policy … weakness … make him sound like Rudy Giuliani …"

Clinton started going negative a few weeks ago when her poll numbers started faltering and after her "politics of pile-on" victimology went over as well as New Coke.  So she started going after Obama's character.

Now her target is Obama's character and leadership as seen through the health care debate.

You may quibble with the substance of the debate, and as we've covered in this blog, there are questions to ask both of Clinton and Obama when it comes to their claims about their plans.

What many will clearly find very interesting is the fact that almost all the attacks on Obama from the Clinton lit are from New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.

Krugman has gone after Obama's proposals on health care and Social Security rather pointedly…

And in response Obama's campaign has gone so far as to FACT CHECK him.

This has not endeared some in the liberal blogosphere such as Ezra Klein who wrote, "When I argued that the (Obama) campaign should take the gloves off, I really didn't expect their target, in this document and in the health care fight more generally, would be progressivism. What in hell is going on over there?"

I dunno, but Hillary sure likes it. She's plastering Krugman all over the Granite state!

I wonder if Obama will respond with lit garnished with quotes from Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich?

DKNY, you wrote: "I prefer to assume that it is incredibly unlikely that such a vast percentage of a particular demographic is being similarly duped."

So if I understand you correctly, you believe it "incredibly unlikely" that 50 million African-Americans can be "similarly duped." YET, according to your recent postings you absolutely believe that 3-4 BILLION people are "similarly duped." How do you account for that discrepancy?

murl41 Can you please Explain? I get from reading your post that socialism no longer exists, is that because you want to hide what the modern day Dems want to bring us to I mean the China is a Socialist state Russia, Venezula, should I go on It exist at different levels, Europe has socialized Government.

Obama and Edwards Pleassssse!
I would vote for Hilary before them two and that says a lot!!

Some questions for brillant people. How should we used the word "Socialism" in todays political climate. Is it still a modern day term? The "Baby Boomers" and the generation before them have been virtually in charge of our goverment for the last twenty years, are we better off? Those who have lead the political process for the past sixteen years have the demonstrated high moral and ethical standards, have their action made our country and the world a better place? The list could go on but if your answer to two out of the three questions is "NO". Then you must agree it is time for a change in generational leadership. My perspective is Obama and Edwards are the best choices for the democrats going forward.

More on the 1964 Civil Rights bill cloture vote. Prior to the Senate changing their rules lowering the cloture vote (to end a filibuster)requirement to three-fifths vote (60 votes) in 1975, cloture required a 2/3 vote (67 votes). The 67th vote FOR cloture was cast by Sen. John James Williams of Delaware -- a REPUBLICAN. So even though the Democrats held a 67-33 majority in the Senate, they only had 45 votes FOR cloture. So it was the REPUBLICANS who passed cloture on the 1964 Civil Rights bill.

Kennedy - Please list any accomplishments of Hilary, please facts only not her talking points.

Oh by the way she started the mud slinging, the only difference is she has other people do it while she hides.

OH by the way the War was brought on us, we did not start this war.

DKNY - Name one accomplishemnt!

See as stated below, the Libs gave them welfare and everything else to buy their votes making them Dependant on the government.

By the way Pres. Bush received about 15% of the Black Vote, and a majority of the Hispanic vote in his elections.

WolfAtTheDoor - You state a senator has not been elected president (FYI - there were 2) because of being in Washington, but it has to also do and mainly too that a senator has no experience. And Obama has even less experience then others. Don't forget he is a junior senator, he is running now because he is a media creation and that is all.

DKNY, the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1996 passage of the Welfare Reform Act aren't nothing! African-Americans received the right to vote in 1870. But the DEMOCRATS in the South denied most African-Americans their their right to vote UNTIL THE PASSAGE of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. It is worth noting that between 1933 and 1964 there were 26 major civil rights votes. Majority of DEMOCRATS opposed these 80% of the time. Majority of the Republicans voted FOR these votes over 96% of the time.

After decades of trying to pass a Civil Rights Act (Republicans did pass the 1875 Civil Rights Act, but it was eventually ruled unconstitutional in 1883 by the U. S. Supreme Court) -- often times never making it out of committee, but even after making it out of committee and onto the floor of the Senate it was ALWAYS filibustered by the Southern DEMOCRATIC Senators. Even the 1964 Civil Rights Act was filibuster by the Southern DEMOCRATIC Senators. BUT cloture finally passed on 10 Jun 1964. In the final vote for passage of the bill, 20 of the 21 Southern DEMOCRATIC Senators vote AGAINST the bill -- as did the lone Southern Republican Senator. While 98% (45-1) of the non-Southern Democratic Senators voted FOR the bill, it was the 84% (27-5) of Non-Southern REPUBLICAN Senators voting FOR the bill that allowed the 1964 Civil Rights Act to pass.

Now then if the DEMOCRATS have done so much for African-Americans in the last 80 years, why are so many African-Americans still struggling? Why is the dropout rate so high? Why is the unemployment rate of African-American's so high? Why are 70% of African-American children born out of wedlock? Why is the incarceration rate of African-American male adults so much higher than other races? Why is HIV-AIDS spreading faster now within the African-American community than other races? THE DEMOCRATS HAVE DONE SUCH A FANTASTIC JOB!!!! If a CEO of any company had that kind of record he would have been fired.

That brings us back to my earlier statement: African-Americans vote FOR THE RHETORIC, instead of holding the Democrats accountable for their LACK OF RESULTS.

James Danley: That's some roster of "accomplishment" for the Republican Party. Nothing from the 18th Century to add?

Fact is that the Republican Party was very different in the late 1800's and early 1900's and I believe was widely supported by African-Americans during that time. Of course, the Republican Party led by Lincoln bears as close a resemblance to the Republican Party of today as I do to Angelina Jolie.

Over the past 80 years or so African-Americans have supported Democrats. That is because they generally view Democrats as being better for them. Unlike James Danley, I believe they are correct and are not being being fooled.

This "lack of experience" business is nauseating. Personally, the less time someone spends in Washington, the better. Why do you think a Senator hasn't been elected president since Nixon.

Obama is fresh, inspiring, and able to heal America's wounds. Obama in '08!

DKNY - it does not take alot to dup a group of people look at Germany circa 1930's
Look at Venezula
Hey look at the terrorists!

DKNY - Answer one thing what has the democrats done for Americans of African descent?

Hey the Libs got a lot people blinded to their true ambitions such as socialism! See when you got control of the press, the failing education system Do you think it is by chance it is failing? Political Correctness

DKNY another interesting thing I was looking up a while ago, that most racial profiling, racial abuse by government officals is in Blue State, ie, California - Rodney King, NY - you name it, NJ Profiling

So come on it is because the education system stinks, why do you think libs are against school vouchers?

Posted by: spock | Dec 11, 2007 9:03:02 PM

"Democratic Peace" blogger, R. J. Rummel says it best: "Two things explain this (why 90% of African-Americans vote Democratic). One is that Blacks have bought the liberal line about only Democrats supporting their rights. Second, the Black leadership and organizations are almost all on the left, as are blacks in general. Often poor, not well educated, and susceptible to leftist slogans about the 'greedy rich,' 'the anti-Black White Republican establishment,' 'the anti-black rapacity of White businesses,' many Blacks have come to see themselves as victims, the Democrats as their protectors, and vote that way. That virtually all Black Representatives are Democrats does not reflect on Republicans, but on the power of mythology, liberalism, and its propaganda."

Consider the following:
(1) 1863: The Emancipation Proclamation -- freeing the slaves -- thanks to Republican President Abraham Lincoln!
(2) 1865: Ratification of the 13th Amendment -- abolishing slavery -- thanks to the Republicans!
(3) 1870: Ratification of the 15th Amendment -- established the voting rights of all adults regardless of race -- thanks to the Republicans!
(4) 1964: Passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act -- thanks to the Republicans!
(5) 1996: Passage of the Welfare Reform Act -- thanks to the Republican controlled Congress!

It is the Republicans who have a history of actually making life BETTER for African-Americans.

DKNY, you wrote: "...because Democratic candidates typically are better for African-American voters." Point well taken! Many African-Americans enjoyed cheap, if not free, housing and free food stamps for decades. BUT they were held hostage to the old welfare system and many have had to endure the drug infested and gang controlled projects. And they certainly didn't have the means to move to a better school district. So it was increasingly more difficult for those who wanted to get out of the projects and free themselves of the government's control. Thanks to the Democrats for their past and present policies (which includes the rejection of school vouchers).

Republicans on the other hand, want to expand on the record home ownership by African-Americans that has occurred since welfare reform. To that goal, Republicans want to give all parents -- but especially African-American parents -- the opportunity to pull their children out of failing schools by offering school vouchers. Being in better schools will increase the graduation rate of African-Americans. Then millions more African-Americans will have the skills to be successful in the business world. For many African-Americans sports and the music industry are the only way to succeed. But competion is so fierce that only a small percentage actually succeed. Yet with a better education more African-Americans will be able to find success in the arts and sciences, and certainly have more opportunities at becoming entrepreneurs.

Posted by: James Danley | Dec 11, 2007 5:35:17 PM

James Danley and Spock: The African-American community should be very grateful that the two of you can see through the Democratic Party's deception, while millions of them are fooled.

I prefer to assume that it is incredibly unlikely that such a vast percentage of a particular demographic is being similarly duped. That leads me to the far simpler explanation: African-Americans typically vote for Democratic candidates because Democratic candidates typically are better for African-American voters.

Can anyone name one achievment that either Obama or Hilary has done?

By their attacks on our Military alone is a disqualifying position to be commander and chief.

They are both Socialists.

Socialized Healthcare wll destroy this country, it is not free.

See anyone who thinks it is free is too dumb to vote!

Posted by: spock | Dec 11, 2007 4:05:24 PM

DKNY - Name one thing the Dems/Libs have done for minorities, Was it not Sen Byrd (D-WV) who tried to filibuster the Civil Rights bill back then.

You state name one Black Republican Senator, if they do not want to run then whos fault is that. Also don't yuou remember Michael Steele who tried to run for Senate in Maryland and the Libs threw Oreo cookies at him and the Black majority voted for the white Dem.

So please they are be fooled into voting for the dems there is no question.

Now name one black individual that Clinton had on his staff in a major position or nominated for the Supreme court?

HEALTH CARE
Every American has the right to affordable,
comprehensive and portable health coverage. My plan
will ensure that all Americans have health care
coverage through their employers, private health
plans, the federal government, or the states. My plan
builds on and improves our current insurance system,
which most Americans continue to rely upon, and
creates a new public health plan for those currently
without coverage. Under my plan, Americans will be
able to choose to maintain their current coverage if
they choose to. For those without health insurance I
will establish a new public insurance program, and
provide subsides to afford care for those who need
them. My plan includes a mandate that all children
have health care coverage and I will expand
eligibility for the Medicaid and SCHIP programs to
help ensure we cover all kids. My plan requires all
employers to contribute towards health coverage for
their employees or towards the cost of the public
plan. Under my plan a typical family will save $2,500
each year. We will realize tremendous savings within
the health care system from improving efficiency and
quality and reducing wasted expenditures system-wide.
Specifically, these savings will result from
investments in health information technology,
improvements in prevention and management of chronic
conditions, increased insurance industry competition
and reduced industry overhead, the provision of
federal reinsurance for catastrophic coverage, and
reduced spending on uncompensated care.

Edwards is NOT running a 100% positive campaign. I live in Iowa and received a negative letter against Obama yesterday. Edwards pretends to be an ally of Obama in public while he continually attacks Clinton and behind Obama's back sends out letters against him. Edwards is worse than Clinton. There is no integrity coming from the Clinton or Edwards camps. Obama gives clear and honest answers in debates and has never attacked anyone. He has a Fact Check web site only to provide clarity and defense against attacks. Obama 08!

DKNY, you wrote: "You wouldn't actually suggest that these "minorities" are being fooled by the Democratic Party, are you?" Suggest? No! That is EXACTLY what I am SAYING! It may have been under a Democratic President (Johnson) and a Congress controlled by Democrats, but the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed because 80% of the Republicans voted FOR the bill. Since 1964 billions, if not trillions, of dollars have been poured into education. And what have we got to show for it? Many of the urban public schools see the African-American dropout rate over 50%. And 70% of African-American children are born out of wedlock. The fact that 90% of the African-Americans continue to believe the Democratic Party's rhetoric baffles me. They vote FOR the rhetoric, instead of holding the Democrats accountable for their (Democrats) LACK OF RESULTS.

Yes, yes, vote for Hillary because she's a woman! Great reasoning. Hillary supporters' jealousy of Oprah is Hillaryous. Like if Oprah had endorsed Hillary and went on the trail for her they wouldn't have maximized the potential to draw nearly 100,000 new people to the campaign? Come on! The most powerful woman in America is backing Obama. What does that tell you? When did Obama EVER attack Hillary personally? I want evidence!

Posted by: Markiebee | Dec 11, 2007 2:07:58 PM

It's logical Clinton would go negative given that she is dropping in most polls... The latest survey from South Carolina has her down in that state for the first time in weeks:

Posted by: Daniel | Dec 11, 2007 1:44:51 PM

James Danley: If the Democrats' record is so bad for minorities, why is it, then, that these "minorities" contine to vote for Democrats in overwhelming numbers (roughly 90% of African-American voters cast their votes for Gore and Kerry over Bush)and why is it that there is not even one African-American Republican in Congress? You wouldn't actually suggest that these "minorities" are being fooled by the Democratic Party, are you?

hklm21, you wrote: "It's mind boggling that people/sheep are so desperate to be 'lead' that they refuse to accept reality and live in complete denial about the two of them." I concur.

But apologies for borrowing your sentence to augment my earlier comment. I, personally, would expand that from "the two of them" to the entire Democratic Party. Too many "people/sheep" do want to be lead. They want government to be the answer for all of their needs. That way they don't have to take responsibility for, and control of, their own lives.

Posted by: James Danley | Dec 11, 2007 12:09:31 PM

If Hillary was such a 'strong woman' and 'leader', she wouldn't be so dependent on Bill. Without him, she doesn't have a leg to stand on, and crumbles when asked questions.
The scariest part of the two of them is that they are a completely phony 'couple'. They fought like cats and dogs in the White House and she took her anger out on staff constantly.
He has absolutely no respect for her, except for the fact that she is now in the spotlight. They are truly disgusting.
It's mind boggling that people/sheep are so desperate to be 'lead' that they refuse to accept reality and live in complete denial about the two of them.

And I am a woman. Hillary makes my skin crawl. She's a nasty person, treats people (cops, staff, bodyguards) with no respect, and can't control her emotions but is quick to play the victim.

Posted by: hklm21 | Dec 11, 2007 11:13:52 AM

Kennedy, you wrote: "She (Sen. Clinton) has a long long record or public service helping children and minorities." And it's all rhetoric! The Democratic Party has an even longer history of public record of "helping" children and minorities. The Democrats had nearly 60 years of control of both Houses of Congress, often times with very large majorities and with occasional control of the White House. For even longer the Democrats have had huge majorities in most of the large city governments. YET the children and minorities continued to struggle. Many of these large cities have failing schools and dismal dropout rates, especially among minorities. The Democrats are just talkers. And they do TALK a great game. They want to raise taxes so they can throw money at failed policies. That way they can have their cake and eat it too. They LOOK like they are doing something, yet the problem doesn't have to get solved so they can keep the issue alive for the next election. This has been going on for decades.

Posted by: James Danley | Dec 11, 2007 10:56:59 AM

Health care?? As if! Check how much money Hillary and Obama have gotten from the "healthcare" industry. Mandating healthcare does not provide it, in case you have bitten that tidbit. United Health care is the biggest criminal organization in the USA and will be a headliner in Clinton's healthcare mandate. Phooey!!

Kennedy,

Voting for Hillary just because she's a woman?

I am also a woman, and I was a Hillary supporter. It would be wonderful to see a woman in the WH. But, as I've watched her, she and her husband are the one's who have brought shame to this election. Her debate performances were sub par as she refused to answer questions. Then, at the slightest criticism about her votes and policies, she spun out of control: pile-on sexism, good-ol-boys club, the tip flap, ridiculous criticisms of Obama (character, crimes, kindergarten?), more experience (not!), experience trumping judgment (not!), imitating Obama (Streisand vs. Oprah, Powell vs. Obama's foreign policy, being president of the "United States", candidate for "Change"). I loved the Clinton years, but Hillary is not Bill. I'm not sure who is advising her, but the campaign has sunk. Even people in her campaign have acknowledged that they've learned they can't run against Dems as if they were Repubs. I've been first surprised, then shocked, angry, and now I am resolutely against the Hillary machine.

But, a campaign is just that, it needs substance in the candidate. I started looking at Obama. He has depth of experience and success is admirable. He has served as Senator of the United States; served in the Illinois State Senate; and served the Chigago suburbs as a community organizer. He was a Professor of Constitutional Law at University of Chicago. He has a law degree from Harvard, where he was the editor of the Harvard Law Review, a very distinguished position. He has a degree in foreign policy from Columbia University.

Please, demonstrate that women are capable of really understanding the issues and judging the candidates. If you do that, and still decide on Hillary, fine. But, please, don't vote for her just because she is a woman. If you vote based on her record, you will be demonstrating that women have finally succeeded in being treated equally.

Posted by: Kiku | Dec 11, 2007 10:37:49 AM

So now we've seen opposition research from Obama and Clinton. What's Edwards putting out there? He's the one more than the others trying to claim he's now running a 100% positive campaign.

Posted by: Mike | Dec 11, 2007 10:00:53 AM

Evidently nobody told Hillary's supporters that her "politics of pile-on" narrative was backfiring, but her campaign staff has moved on to increasingly desperate tactics. The good news is nobody can accuse her of being mistaken for a Republican amid the attacks her campaign has mounted on her fellow Democrats. (Wait... is that so?) The bad news is it smacks of old-school campaigning at a time that the energized progressive voters have embraced the notion of "change."

Rove must be cackling with glee.

Posted by: Lefty | Dec 11, 2007 9:24:24 AM

Hillary is right to criticize Obama's incomplete health plan, which would not provide univeral coverage.

Kennedy: Clinton voted for authorizing the use of force, which provided the foundation for "THIS USELESS BUSH/CHANEY [sic] WAR." To the extent that courageous women were sent to fight this war, Clinton (along with all others who voted with her) bears a portion of the blame.

Its time the media stopped the unbiased reporting for the Clinton campaign! Does Oprah own CNN or MSNBC? Clinton HAD to fight back, or you would be reporting she was weak. Give her a break!

Hillary has been attacked since this started by ALL the candidates running, democrat and republican, and has continued to be a strong, intelligent, completely capable leader with compassion and conviction, she makes me glad to be a woman! I’m ashamed of obama and Edwards for damaging their own party, is why Huckabee is gaining. All this playing with oprah will put a republican in the White House for certain. WOMAN OF AMERICA, THIS IS OUR TIME! STAND UP AND BE COUNTED, THERE IS NO LIMITS. Let the media say what they will about Clinton, it’s solely because she is a strong woman and that scares men like obama and Edwards. My dear grandmother is 86 and my youngest daughter is 10, both are extremely excited that a woman can be President of this great country. My daughter asks why a woman has never been elected before, because men didn’t allow it. I urge all women to really look at the issues and this country and vote for Clinton. Keep in mind all media outlets are selling papers and trying to attract viewers, they love nothing more than candidates going after each other, when WE THE VOTER do not like it at all, I still believe that any of the democrats running are good candidates, I truly feel Clinton’s connections and clout with foreign countries is what we need ASAP. I do not feel confident that oprahbama biased support of obama will help him. We already see voters joking and billing it as the oprahbama show. She completely overshadowed him. She spoke well this weekend, but he failed to impress or add anything. That’s not good for this country. Oprahs is not the woman running for president, to help this country…its CLINTON. Give her the chance ladies! She has a long long record or public service helping children and minorities. Stick together and let’s make history for our mothers and daughters and ALL THE COURAGOUS WOMAN SENT TO THIS USELESS BUSH/CHANEY WAR!
