Grumbling About the XX-ness of the Des Moines Register Editorial Board
December 16, 2007 12:37 PM
Eight out of the nine members of the Des Moines Register editorial board (LINK) are women.
So -- goes the grumbling from supporters of candidates other than Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. -- what do you expect other than for them to endorse Clinton?
As they did. (LINK)
"You mean like what's been going on with white men supporting white men since the history of time?" one might respond.
Sour grapes?
What do you think?
Meanwhile, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., gets a clean sweep of endorsements from the Register, the Globe (LINK), and the New Hampshire Union Leader (LINK).
It's nice to see the media finally embracing the Arizonan.

Nobody finds it odd that women turn around and behave just like the guys they have been bitching about ....and they get a free pass because the guys have done it in the past? Terrible behavior is terrible behavior and women are not exempt because men have been terrible. I always thought once you identify the problem, you become the solution, not another aspect of the problem. But hey, I'm voting for Obama...and these women have a right to remain in the 19th century. What do you want to bet the girls asked each other, if we don't vote for Hillary will our book clubs still talk to us?

How come if someone gets an endorsement it is automatically biased? How come no one is questioning the other registers and endorsements? Just saying...

Hillary's endorsement by the Des Moines Register comes as no surprise, given that DONNA SHALALA, who served for eight years as Secretary of Health and Human Services under Hillary's husband, currently sits on the Board of Directors of Gannett -- which is the parent company of the Des Moines Register.
Mere coincidence? I think not. Shady? You be the judge. Maybe Ms. Shalala is not enjoying the private sector and seeks to be rewarded by Hillary with yet another 8 years in another cushy cabinet position...

One thing the Des Moines Register editorial board has in common with American voters? A women's majority.

America is well over-due to have a female commander-in-chief. Put a worthy one up and I'll vote for her in a heart-beat.
Until that day...
No Thanks Mama - I'm for Obama !
...because we've had seven long years of nepotism... We couldn't stand another eight. I will NOT vote for anyone who is partly responsible for our Iraq mess - EVER !
Barack Obama for a better America.
It's time to Rise and Shine.

Hoo-eeeee....
Sjees, I guess the next step will be big media newsblogs first testing people who are commenting to check whether they are 1. Real news consumers or 2. Campaign volunteer commenters. (Campaigns use hundreds of them to write positive comments on their candidate while busting up the opposition on blogs -- well, blogs like this one!)
I for one, as a news consumer, would like to know for sure that I am commenting with fellow, neutral news consumers like me.
Oh god, where's the disclaimer when you need one...!

I think a lot of things are at work here, but mostly that this was a bought/sold endorsement. If you read it, it reads like it was written by the Clinton campaign--no substance. NY Times has reported in detail all the out-of-office courting that went on of the editorial staff, and this paper is now owned by Gannett...(money talks?) I'm not sure that the female majority on the DMR board had much to do with choosing HRC. It looks like they were poised to endorse Biden but got bought off at some point. The last laugh is on them, because after the Repub debate and this endorsement, their influence has become insignificant and laughable.

I do think that it's possible that very liberal women would tend towards a woman. Anyone who watches The View knows that there is a continuing refrain about 'the white man'.
