Huck-a-spears
December 20, 2007 11:24 PM
"It's a tragedy when a sixteen year old who is not really prepared for all the responsibilities of adult life is gonna now be faced with responsibilities of honest to goodness adult life," said Iowa GOP frontrunner, former Arkansas Governor and Baptist minister Mike Huckabee.
He was talking about Britney Spears' younger pregnant sister Jamie Lynn.
"I respect that apparently she's going have the child," Huckabee continued, per ABC News' Kevin Chupka. "I think that's the right decision, a good decision and I respect that and appreciate that. I hope its not an encouragement to other 16 year olds to think that that's the best course of action."
Concluded Huckabee about the star of Nickelodeon's "Zoey 101," "At the same time I'm not going to condemn her -- there will be plenty of people in line to do that and I'm looking for the shortest lines," he said. "I just hope that she will make another right decision and that is to give that child all the love and care and kindness that she can."
MTV, meanwhile, wonders if this unborn child's conception was legal, given boyfriend Casey Aldridge's advanced age (he might be as old as 19).

My parents were both married, my Mom was pregnant with my older brother at 16. I guess Huckabee believes the morality of that generation was a "tragedy". Kids at 16 CAN raise children, as proven by my parents, grandparents, etc. Let's give her a chance.

The answer Huckabee gave was a response to a question asked by a journalist. It was not a prepared statement nor did he ever say 'this is policy'. He was asked an opinion and gave one but apparently, liberals will never, ever allow a conservative to give an opinion without labeling or dissecting the response in detail. Freedom of speech works both ways. Get over it.

Huckabee makes me think of those over hyped reality show contestants that are desperate to keep their names in the headlines. Anything for a headline!
Is the USA really so screwy that we could elect a POTUS that wears their religion on their sleave in such a pandering fashion (not just this comment). How about a comment on the best and worst dressed Mr. President.
A true statesman would have said this is none of my business and not important at all. So Huckabee knows about JLS but not the NIE on Iran --- fantastic.

Is Mike Huckabee considering the option of becoming an Orthopediatrician or rather go back to his Minister Service? I think the latter will benefit him well.

Huckleberry should be concerned about more important issues than this girl's pregnancy ... like the separation of church and state ... and how some GOP candidates are using Pastors to trample on our Constitution to benefit them ... check the mirror tax hike Mike ... I'm referring to you!

At least the girl has respect for the life she carries. So many women do not. To them it's nothing, but a burden and the unborn deserves to die for their convenience. It's still sad that she decided to succumb to the sexual pressure so soon, but it's good that she won't kill her unborn child. At least she's got enough humanity in her soul to spare her child's life when so many would have otherwise sacrificed it for their own selfish determination and proclaim it an assertion of her feminism.

Being forced to look at this doffus for four years, would be a "TRAGEDY'.

"At the same time I'm not going to condemn her -- there will be plenty of people in line to do that and I'm looking for the shortest lines," he said. That statement is consistent with the way he does things. Rather than take a leadership role to protect individual liberties and rebuke the mob mentality he just pats the one on the back with the bull’s eye and says to smile and conduct yourself the way the mob wants you to. Again he stays arms length from those that do the dirty work that he does not challenge or make an effort to stop.

Jason Capps: This nation was created by god? What does that even mean?
Posted by: DKNY | Dec 21, 2007 3:14:50 PM
I look forward to Huckabee's appearance on Ricki Lake to discuss this matter further.

There seems to be one fact you missed...the one where this great nation was created by God, and built by men with principle and conviction, and belief in God....regardless of when the phrase was added to the Pledge.

Hey, for the guy who reminds us about "One Nation Under God", just look up the facts. The Pledge of Allegiance started in the 1890's. The phrase "Under God" was added to the pledge in the 1950's. The original pledge didn't have that in it!!! For decades (over 60 years) it didn't have it in it!

So, I come from a a family with 8 girls. Yup, you heard me right 8 girls. All healthy doing well, own homes and no sluts, alcoholics or drug users. My mom and dad raised us all to respect our bodies, minds and souls (so we don't go to hell). There was a deep Catholic influence instilled in us when we were young and still carries on in our own children. Before those spear's mother decides to try and publish a book on strict parenting, she better talk to my mom first.

Spears pregnancy and keeping the baby are stupid CHOICES all under her control. The Iraq war and the casualities and victims of this, with no power of choice of their own, THAT is a tragedy. Just another example of how the priorities of the far right are way out of wack.

They keep erasing my links to real studies that show that kidsfrom teenage mothers have MUCH higher chances of abuse, neglect, learning disabilities, poverty, jail time as adolescents, high school drop out, and eventually, are teenage mothers or fathers themselves. They keep erasing the studies but do it yourself..Google "teenage mother" and "Maternal age" "teenager" and "abuse" "Neglect" "poverty" "crime" "learning disabilities" "marriage failure"...go ahead. WHen you give a baby to a 16 year old and say "OK< have a nice life" you are gambling against horrific odds with that child's life.

About those trailer comments - still kind of wondering why it's all about the girl (trailer trash, comment about selfish mother's killing their children, "tragedy when a 16 year old girl gets pregant") AND NOTHING ABOUT THE PATHETIC STATE OF BOYS AND MEN OUT THERE WHO WOO A GIRL FOR SEX AND LEAVE AFTER CONCEPTION. People out there are blaming women, trying to overturn laws that affect WOMEN (not men), putting financial and emotional burdens on women and of course the guilt trips. WHERE ARE THE MEN OR BOYS AND WHY AREN'T THE GUILT TRIPS AND CONDEMNATION BEING PILED ON THEM. STEP UP SOCIETY!!!!

Percentage of teenage motherhood is directly linked to child abuse, how much foster care we will need and we will pay for, crime rates, how much we spend on welfare....this is not a "personal" issue when 16 year old girls keep their babies. It's no longer personal because the chances the law, or the social services or special education services or some other government agency will have to get involved in this kids life becuase of neglect, poverty, abuse or learning disabilities is HUGE. Being responsible is NOT becoming a mother as a teenager, whether you abort or give it up for adoption..THAT Is personal. There is NOTHING selfish about not having the baby. It is RESPONSIBLE To not have the baby.

that the media covers this personal issue, just shows how sick a portion of our society is. there are soooo many real issues that need discussion/attention that it's mind boggling. keep up the good work media.

Here's a thoughtful and kind answer to a dishonest journalists question. The more the liberal media tries to trap this guy, the better he looks. I think some of you need to read more than the headline of this article. 16 year olds should be in school, planning for college and a career. Not pregnant and unmarried. Get Real.

ABC, why are you wasting space with this garbage as TOP NEWS?
Yes, he was asked the question, but his answer should have refocused on issues that befit a presidential candidate--not the latest gossip from People magazine or E! celebrity news. He could have gained my respect with a heady answer. But instead he chose to be judgmental in place of our ONE AND ONLY creator who will judge us all. This girl made a mistake, Hackabee. Don't pander to religious right--it's making the intelligent Christians sick--and those who aren't Christians are already sick of it.
PS. To those of you who think this guy is "God's" candidate or "Jesus' juice box", you are why the church pews are emptier on Sunday. I'd much rather pray in my home than congregate with crazy.
