Last-minute Xmas stories -- video
December 24, 2007 10:41 AM
'tis the day before Christmas...all the candidates have gone home...
So I sat down and wrote up this GMA poem.
*
Live from the frozen tundra of Des Moines, a Democratic fact check
*
And a live report from Council Bluffs on how candidates are sending out X-mas messages...and a state of the race.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, Happy New Year and best wishes for 2008!

There is one phenomenon that, as far as I can see, has been totally overlooked in this uploading of primaries. And that is the effect early voting has on an election. Since the advent of early voting, studies have shown that many close elections were lost because extremely effective last minute campaigning had been too late. Some states now allow early in-person and/or mail-in voting up to a month or more before election day.
As an example, take the states whose primaries fall on Super Duper Tuesday, Feb 5, 2008: ALABAMA (None), ARIZONA (26 days), ARKANSAS (15 days), CALIFORNIA (29 days), CONNECTICUT (None), DELAWARE (None), GEORGIA (Monday through Friday, week preceding election), ILLINOIS (22 days prior through the 5th day before election), MASSACHUSETTS (None), MISSOURI (None), NEW JERSEY (None), NEW MEXICO (17 days), NEW YORK (None), OKLAHOMA (Friday & Monday preceding election), TENNESSEE (20 days prior through the 5th day before election), UTAH (in-person early absentee voting, but no specific date mentioned).
So those candidates who plan to do the bulk of their campaining in states like Arizona, Arkansas, California, Illinois, New Mexico and Tennessee AFTER the Florida primary on Jan 29th, will have a rude awakening when they discover that 20%-30% of the voters may have already voted BEFORE the Florida primary.

none of the fact check info was particularly revealing. Clinton's too smart to lie.
