National Huckaboom
December 07, 2007 9:00 PM
You will notice that ABC News does not pay attention to every poll. Our Polling Unit has high standards.
That said, here's a respectable eyebrow-raising poll.
In the new AP/Ipsos poll released this afternoon, the Iowa Huckaboom has hit nationally.
Rudy Giuliani has 26% (down from 29% in November), Mike Huckabee rockets to second place with 18% (up from 10%), John McCain is third and steady at 13%, followed by Mitt Romney steady at 12%, and then Fred Thompson at 11% (down from 19%).
For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton leads with 45%, Barack Obama has 23%, John Edwards has 12%. Fairly unchanged since October.

Maybe there's something to that heavenly explanation Huckabee gave about his success…

...and what happens after Iowa when Thompson realizes it just might be better to drop out now (why be embarassed in South Carolina?) and releases his supporters? The majority of the swing to Huckabee. Then the next poll, ABC or otherwise, shows a virtual tie between Rudy and Mike.

inneresting. But Romney held steady. So Huckabee is effectively capitalizing on Thompson's lack of umph.
And the value voters are still fairly evenly split - it's not like Huckabee's second place spot is commanding.
