No soup for you!
December 30, 2007 7:44 PM
In a sign that the Iowa Republican caucuses has taken a particularly dastardly turn, the campaign of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Sunday began comparing its chief rival in this state, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, to the most notorious of all fictional characters in modern pop culture -- George Costanza.
Referring to the 6th season episode of Seinfeld, "The Beard," in which Jerry is coached by George as to how he can beat a lie detector test (in order to maintain a claim that he had never watched "Melrose Place"), Huckabee's campaign said that the Romney standard for truth-telling is comparable to Costanza's memorable advice that closes this scene, from the February 9, 1995 episode:
JERRY: So George, how do I beat this lie detector?
GEORGE: I'm sorry, Jerry I can't help you.
JERRY: Come on, you've got the gift. You're the only one that can help me.
GEORGE: Jerry, I can't. It's like saying to Pavarotti, "Teach me to sing like you."
JERRY: All right, well I've got to go take this test. I can't believe I'm doing this.
GEORGE: Jerry, just remember. It's not a lie... if you believe it.
The Huckabee campaign then lists a litany of incidents of what it calls "Romney's pattern of economizing with the truth," including Romney's disputed assertion that he "saw" his father march with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., his faulting of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for failing "Reagan 101" for opposing President Bush's tax cuts -- when Romney at the time also said he didn't approve of the Bush tax cut proposals, yada yada yada.
Jason Alexander, who played Costanza, could not be reached to comment on what it's like to have his character compared to Mitt Romney.
Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Romney keeps coming back up to the top. He is the most qualified of the candidates and is the only one who can beat the democrats. His morals are solid. This man has it all. Go MITT!!!

Huckabee wants to distract from his record by making personal attacks. With a record like Mikes I dont blame him. If Mitt wanted to attack Huckabee then Romney could call him dishonest. Huckabee has an ethics problem. While in office he accepted multiple gifts. On one occasion Huckabee accepted 120,000 in gifts from a store owner and later elected him into a public office. Huckabee was less than honest when he said that they gifts had nothing to do with it. Also Mike was dishonest in this regard, "Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told the Christian Broadcasting Network he had a theology degree, he told voters in Iowa he had a theology degree, he repeated the claim in last month's CNN YouTube debate ... but, his campaign now says, it was not true."- worldnetdaily(dot)com

Why is the Huckster afraid of his record. Anybody else notice how he never defends his records reported in the Ads. He makes the logical fallacy of trying to blame the person not the issues.
This is debate 101 folks. The Huckaboom is over... The Huskster has no brains... no ethics, no plan, no foreign policy skills - He drops in the polls as people start to find out the truth about him...
And by their fruits ye shall know them.
Mitt / No paycheck for turning around the Olympics - gave his pay to charity.
In Mass - Took no pay for being Governor - Gave his pay to charity.
He's a self made millionaire to turns everything he touches to gold.
Mitt's only problem is that he's trying to hard at trying not to offend everybody and it can come across as shallow - get Fred Thompson as VP - and that is a ticket I like!

Huckleberry is a joke. This bigot thinks he has a chance against the big boys? Romney has what is known as
S T R A T A G Y. It's something you're going to need when the rest of the world hates your country and you have to deal with terrorist countries. The leader of the free world has to be willing to get their knuckles dirty - I don't want a boy scout (Or Baptist Minister) fighting for me. I want a street fighter who can play nasty if that's what it takes.
Go Mitt!

The Huckster (Gomer Pyle) is one to talk. Let's all remember his ethical laps problems....don't remember?

I have been following this race for a while. It's about time the truth is shouted from the housetop. Thanks Mike!! I do believe you are the best candidate running. Romney is a pathological liar. I'm convinced he believes his own lies.

Mitts a politician they are supposed to lie and change positions to fit the situation. No one really trusts him he's just another republican who's pretending to be Reagan.

Look, McCain is too old, Paul looks too old, Huckabee is too shallow, Thompson?--get real, Giuliani carries too much baggage, so that leaves Romney to face Clinton or Obama.

Romney says what he thinks someone wants to hear, never the same. It appears the only way anyone can win in politics is to be negative or to respond to being attacked and then also falling into the cycle of being negative as well. Huckabee started off OK, nothing negative, and now has to respond to Romneys total negativity. Most people are dumb enough to believe Romneys negative ads and then McCain and Huckabee are forced to try to defend themselves. There were no negative ads and comments until Romney went that route.

Huckabee resorts to personal attacks when he is attacked by only the facts of his liberal record. After he has shown himself not competent in foreign policy with the many Pakistan assasination mistatements, he is falling in the polls. Luckily for the Republicans, his meltdown is happening before he can be nominated.

I'm an Arkansan and this article reminds me of the time back in the 90's when Huckabee or the Reverend Governor, as we liked to call him in Arkansas, said something along the lines of "It's not paranoia if they really are after you." He didn't mean it as a joke and if I can recall, he said it reference to the media. Huckabee is thin skinned and hates when the media is critical of him. Of course, he could have been talking about the State ethics committee which was constantly investigating him for not reporting gifts. He has a sick sense of entitlement.

It is about time Mike put "Flip Flop" in his place! Hit him again Mike!
"Flip Flop" has been distorting Mike's record for weeks and when he gets stood up to, He and his supporters cry. LOL

The Republicans are going to have to realize, their best choice to beat the Democrats is Ron Paul. He's the only truthful candidate they have.

Huck isn't smart enough.
Huck isn't a conservative.
Even the religious right can't swallow his record.
Been nice Huck, but you need to sit down and let the professionals run the country.
GO MITT! Experience, Leadership, Hardworking, Smart, with a Real Resume of Accomplishment.

Huckabilli and Romney...two peas in pod..Who cares neither one is going to win in 2008..Huckabilli is a JIMMY CARTER LITE and Romney is a BUSH LITE. Neither one has enough brains to come in out of a blizzard.

Hmmm... a minister that has an alter ego of a slick tongued politician that relates to fictional characters. Who will ever know which ego will be acting as the President of the United States? Anyone care for more pheasant? He can’t seem to tell that they don’t deliberately get in his way; they just happened to be there for his pleasure to shoot. Just how many does he want to do unto?

Huckabee showed us his religious side...casting stones. Who does that remind us of? Why can't he be strong on what HE can do for the country instead of what someone else can't. I haven't seen him show us much.

Huck is sure sounding desperate. The reality is that he has a second rate education from a third rate college and does not have the intelligence or judgement to run the country. He needs to stick with his preacher business where he can sell emotion over intelligence. After reading his comments on Romney, he is like Costanza. Its not lying if he believes it. The problem is, he doesn't believe it so it is just plain old lying.

Huckabee is like Jimmy Carter reincarnated. He has a soft record on illegal immigration and has said he would give the illegal aliens amnesty. That is totally unacceptable and rewards criminals. This past week, Huckabee proved he knows nothing about international relations and THAT is most dangerous to YOUR very life.

Thanks a lot, Huckabee. I had finally gotten over Seinfeld and you ripped the scab right off. Serenity now!
