Rudy Changes The Subject

December 27, 2007 9:14 AM

Moving on from the subject of his health to yours, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will launch his first national TV ad tomorrow, an ad featuring TIME Magainze's 2001 Man of the Year discussing terrorism and invoking the Sept. 11 attacks.

You can watch the ad HERE or view our Good Morning America spot about Giuliani changing the subject HERE.

The ad was cut and distributed to the morning TV shows before an explosion took the life of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Polls indicate that Republicans trust Giuliani to handle terrorism more than any other candidate -- even here in Iowa where Giuliani is in a four-way dead heat for third place.

"The Islamic terrorists would make a terrible mistake if they confuse our democracy for weakness," Giuliani says in the ad, in a close-up of his face interspersed with images of World War II, Iowa Jima, jesse Owens, and 9/11.. "Our democracy means we disagree with each other, but when you come and try and take away from us our freedom, when you try and come here and kill our people, we’re one and we’re going to stand up to you and we’re going to prevail."

The ad will run on Fox News Channel nationally, starting Friday, and on local TV in New Hampshire and South Carolina.  As of now it will not run in Iowa, where the caucuses will be held in seven days.

What say you?

Why is Guilian's health the issue? What about the corruption? Does that all go away because he is reportedly in good health, whatever that may mean.

coloradorocket123, I appreciate your effort to address my question and I understand where you went with your reply, but I just don't think Giuliani's having been Mayor of NYC on September 11 gives him any special understanding of terrorism. I've never understood his perceived strength on the issue of terrorism.

In comparison to any of the lib/dems Rudy has the best experience , but then so does Mickey Mouse when it come to comparing to the libs.

"I still don't understand why being the mayor of a city that is subject to a terrorist attack makes a person an expert on terrorism."

A decent point. It does not make him an expert, but I think it sends out the signal that he's seen the face of our enemy up close, and understands better than anyone what these people are capable of. It's his verbal stance on terrorism SINCE 9/11 that defines what he believes our strategy should be.

I think what the former mayor is announcing is his trust in people..that running the City of NY he was most likely--let down and then brought back by the real design that people share together..--those--somewhat--"bring downs"..or let downs that politically manipulate a small timeline..mean that leadership is in his corner by that simple vision of this portion of America..I quess NYC was picked ON by the terrorist for its more than USUAL counter-terrorism stand..that really amounts too a world of TRADE&COMMERCE..even with any of the corrupt practices and illegal gambles at play..America is that portion of the story that RISES..not so much that ALL the SHIPS--rise when the TIDE..comes in..its the benefit to have a SAFE Harbor...not a possession..a manipulation..or even more excuses to pander a large public..truth as they migh enter into..is a harbor for a more restful tide..NOT..the ups and downs that decide the truth..its the place that rests your ship..if you consider that former mayor Rudy Giuliani fought fo law&order(alone)you should consider the peace of mind that excists there..that a rising tide/or/or the multitude of SHIPS(personified)lack alot.

I still don't understand why being the mayor of a city that is subject to a terrorist attack makes a person an expert on terrorism.

I was elected yesterday, Obama said. I have never set foot in the U.S. Senate. Ive never worked in Washington. And the notion that somehow Im immediately going to start running for higher office just doesnt make sense. So look, I can unequivocally say I will not be running for national office in four years, and my entire focus is making sure that Im the best possible senator on behalf of the people of Illinois. He further elaborated: Look, Im a state senator who hasnt even been sworn in yet. My understanding is that I will be ranked 99th in seniority. Im going to be spending the first several months of my career in the U.S. Senate looking for the washroom and trying to figure out how the phones work.

So, in four years, Obama went from figuring out how to use the telephones and finding bathrooms, to becoming a foreign policy expert, while missing 1/3 of his votes and failing to hold a single hearing as the CHAIR of Senate Foreign Relations committee. Right?

When Oprah went down to SC, there was all this Obama is the messiah hype. Oprah said –He is the one - But you know what, Obama is little substance, all hype. The key to his success: a freshness, a lack of record to run on, the constant repetition of simple feel-good platitudes that lull listeners into a sense of trust and induce in them a yearning to believe. No wonder Barack Obama is so popular among denizens of Hollywood like Oprah: they certainly have an eye for those who can create an image, can generate a buzz that compels others to suspend their disbelief, and who can induce a trance-like stargazing. But the fact is that Barack Obama does have a record to run on and its a record of vote dodging and triangulation. Barack Obama talks about the audacity of hope... but how about the audacity to show up and vote.. and not criticize others over resolutions you conveniently missed while campaigning

So let me get this straight, Obama wants to bomb Pakistan if dictators and militants run free, but he opposes the war in 2002, then says he supports Bush's conduct of the war on terror in 2004 while campaigning, then says if he had been in congress he might have voted different. While campaigning he says he despises the Patriot Act, yet upon arrival, he votes to renew it. While he has been in Washington, his votes on Iraq and Iran are identical to Hillary Clinton. He has criticized Hillary for her vote on Kyl/Lieberman, yet he missed the vote because Campaigning is more important than national security.

WHAT HAS OBAMA DONE TO CHANGE WASHINGTON? He sounds like every other senator. Missing votes, hobnobbing with Hollywood, and taking the job for granted and using it solely to build your resume.
