The Odds on Oprah's Influence

December 03, 2007 5:20 PM

Pew reports that while 69% of voters say Her Holiness's endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, would not have any impact on their own vote, a full 60% say her backing will help him, and only 3% say it will hurt him.

Twenty three percent of Democrats say they would be more likely to vote for a candidate because of Winfrey's support.

No word on how many Iowa moms were surveyed.

More HERE.

Oprah is a real business woman, Obama and Oprah know one another for years and she never supported him while he was running for the Illinois Senate or even in 2004, Oprah and Obama go to the same church here in Chicago, same health club, and Oprah only endorsed him once she knew the potential of making money for the marketing of his books, signing the rights on his books to movies, etc. She needs to market the Obama brand real well so she can make profit out of it as she always does on business. There is not sudden love or admiration as she said in her show is all business!

Oprah is different than Streisand, Cruise, Chuck Norris, etc. While all those others are certainly intelligent, they do not have the credentials in the intellectual arena that Oprah has, because she taken her talk show beyond pure entertainment--she handles difficult subjects alot, and gives her opinions alot. That makes her endorsement, in my mind, far more legitimate than the others. And if she is really hitting the road hard with Obama, it will pull some women from Hillary, and pull some rural folks from Edwards. I think it might help Obama far more than the polls show it will.

Oprah's support for Sen. Obama sure won't hurt him and can only help. It's also worthwhile noting that Sen. Clinton trotted out her high-profile celebrity supporter, Barbra Streisand, after Oprah said she'd campaign for Sen. Obama. Dueling divas, anyone?

Oprah's influence will be just that she may bring some people, who otherwise wouldn't go to a presidential candidate's event, to come. Then once they get there they will get a dose of Senator Obama. They will get to know this man. To know him is to love him. They will then go and read his books and then they will see what all of the supporters that have carried Barack Obama to this point, see in him and what we see for the possibilities for the future of this country and the world at large. Then this will turn into passionate supporters, who will VOTE for him. He will win the nomination and go on to win the White House!!!!!!!!!!!

Voters in need of Rehab!
What is going on when a country can’t break the cycle? I’m referring to the political cycle: Bush, Clinton, Bush, ______ . Watch out you may choose the wrong name to fill-in that blank. Do the voter’s need a “rehab” session to stop the insanity? Break the cycle, get fresh and start new. Leave the Clinton baggage in the past along with Bush and all the former first families. It’s like re-hiring an employee that broke the rules. HELLO American voters - wake-up and shake the bad habits! Vote for a new face with real answers not old ones. Do you really want a mess back in the Whitehouse at the time we need to gain some dignity the most? We can’t afford to be laughed at by the rest of the world. Get smart and break the cycle! Clean the slate and vote for a new president.
