Why Did Bob Kerrey Mention Obama's Middle Name -- 'Hussein'?
December 16, 2007 9:19 PM
Some Obama supporters have asked why former Sen. Bob Kerrey, D-Neb., who endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., today, mentioned her opponent Sen. Barack Hussein Obama's middle name in remarks published in The Washington Post. (LINK)
"I like the fact that his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and that his father was a Muslim and that his paternal grandmother is a Muslim," Kerrey is quoted as saying. "There's a billion people on the planet that are Muslims, and I think that experience is a big deal."
Obama supporters see this in the same light that they see Clinton strategist Mark Penn's remarks on MSNBC's Hardball (LINK) -- that, as far as former Clinton campaign co-chair Billy Shaheen's remarks about Obama's youthful drug use, "the issue related to cocaine use is not something that the campaign was in any way raising."
Too clever by half, they think.
A clear attempt to raise an issue while pretending not to raise it.
Same thing with the "Hussein" middle name?
Reached on the phone Sunday evening, Kerrey said that's not at all how he meant it.
"What I said was an answer to a question," Kerrey said.
He'd been asked by a reporter from the Omaha World-Herald about the fact that the Clinton folks are hammering home the idea that Obama has little experience, while both Obama today and Kerrey in 1992 ran for president in their first Senate term.
"My answer was yes, but I finished third in the primary. Obama's smarter and more talented than I ever was, and he has two things which are connected to his life experience that give him special capacity," Kerrey recalled. "First, he is African American and can speak to underperforming Black youth in a way that no other candidate can. He gave a speech in Selma that was incredible (LINK), that no white person could ever give. No government program could ever do what Barack Obama can do.
"Second," Kerrey continued, "his name is Barack Hussein Obama. I know that middle name is seen as a weakness by Republicans, but I don't think it is. I think it enables him to speak to a billion Muslims around the world."
Kerrey said he's spoken to Obama and his staffers and told them to "lead with it as a strength. There's this nonsense out there about him being a Muslim Manchurian candidate. He should do a commercial, look the camera straight in the eye, and say, 'My wife Michelle and I are Christians, but my father was a Muslim and my paternal grandfather was a Muslim, and that fact and my name means I can speak to a billion people around the world" who need to hear from the United States.
Kerrey's endorsement of Clinton came as a surprise to some, given his past conflicts with the family (while running against Bill in 1992, Kerrey said Republicans would break him open "like a soft peanut" (LINK) because of his confusing answers about avoiding the draft; he called Bill an "unusually good liar"; and once contemplated challenging him in the Democratic primaries in 1996).
"If I only had the relationship with her I had when she was in the White House, I wouldn't have" endorsed her, he told me. "But she's been terrific as a senator."
Yes, it's true, he laughingly acknowledges, that as president of the New School, he needs her signature on appropriations for his university. But that's the point: "She returns phone calls. ... I also have seen her on the Armed Services Committee do very well. And today" -- his endorsement of her (LINK) in Council Bluffs, Iowa -- "she hit the ball out of the park."

I think the name should be used and the people should be able to make their own decision and due diligence as to whether they should elect this wolf in sheeps clothing. the media is ruining our country and cutting and pasting what they think we should hear.

KERRY IS A DUMB MAN. I HOPE HE HAS HIS FINANCES IN ORDER BECAUSE THIS IS SURELY IT FOR HIM.
NOBODY PICKS THEIR NAME FIRST MIDDLE OR LAST NAME. AND OBAMA WAS ESTRANGED FROM HIS FATHER. HE WAS RAISED BY HIS WHITE MOTHER.
NOBODY PICKS THE RELGION THEIR PARENTS CHOOSE FOR THEM EITHER. I HAD TO DO WHAT MY PARENTS TOLD ME.
THE RACE IS NOT ABOUT NAMES OR OTHER DUMB STUFF. IT IS ABOUT THE CHANGE THAT OBAMA SEEKS.

What bothers me more than his muslim name is his affiliation with the TUCC, which is the Trinity United Christian Church, which if you read its web page, you will see it is really a Black empowerment church. It seems to have very little to do with Christiantity, if at all. I think he only joined it for his political career because he could them claim he was a Christian. His mother was an aetheist and his father and stepfather were Muslims. I read an article that said Obama's church gave and award to Louis Farakhan, the leader of the Black Muslims.

No matter what if Obama's last name is Hussain he should not hide from American people. Let American people know and explain the fact. Hillary did not torture him but MacCain will massacre him.

I am amazed at how naïve the western world have become, Mr. Obama kept his father’s name Hussein which is the name of one of the two grandchildren of profit Mohamed.
Mr. Obama is going to be the leader of the western world and in the forefront of fighting Islamic extremism, not changing his name is significant and a statement that he still has compassion towards Islam and his father’s family in Kenya.
St. Paul changed his name from Soul to send a clear and unambiguous message that he did shed his Jewish inheritance and was born again in Christ.
It will be the biggest mistake for the western world if we elected a leader that has shown lack of decisiveness even in his religious affiliation.
I am sorry but even his mother that have decided to get married twice to two Muslim gentlemen sends the wrong message that Mr. Obama’s commitment to waging a war against Islamic terrorists can be questioned.

I would have never had the pleasure of reading this article, had i not read the poorly typed comment from "ellie", as quoted in a new york times column today. "ellie" may be a naive, myopic or culturally unaware, having swallowed the entire 9/11 fairy tale, but I rest well tonight -- Obama just won South Carolina and I can see the day ahead in this country when people who think like her will be outnumbered.

Get a grip, Ellie! Stop drinking the Bush administration's Kool-Ade, and start thinking for yourself. Perhaps your rational mind will reject the "middle name Hussein" = muslim = terrorist nonsense. Or the "Saddam was behind 9-11" nonsense.

Obama is a Christian and has had no connection to a Muslim other than by blood. He barely knew his father. I don't think it should matter in any event. but clearly the Clintonistas were raising the issue to place fear in many Americans' minds, as many Americans do care if he's Muslim. After 8 years of fear-based politics, we need a change. I'm not wholly convinced by Obama's record, but I sure don't believe in Hillary's experience by proximity while in the White House. What Obama does have is the ability to move beyond division and rancor. He won't eliminate it, but the Clinton's will certainly exacerbate it.

Well, Clintons are savvy to win. So Hilary is more addicted to poll, when that number lower, her wicked witchiness just shot up!
Another clintons presidency will be more devisive for America. America is not about dynasty. Lets stop now.

All the rumors floating around on the net about Obama are finding there way into the mainstream courtesy of the Clinton campaign. Its not about him so much as it is shedding a very bright light on her character. I expected to see these tactics from the republicans not the Clinton's...

It seems to me that there is much prejudice against Muslims since 911. Not all Muslims are terrorists or extremists. All religions have their extremists. Look at the extreme right in the USA for example. That is Bush's ilk. So what if Barrak Obama has Hussien as a middle name. So what if his father was Muslim. What is the next step? stripping Muslim Americans of their citizenship like the way Hitler took the citizenship of the Jews from them? So what if Obama is African American. This whole thing about Obama being Muslim is a false rumor designed to smear his reputation. He is a Christian anyway and Obama says so on his website. Prejudice is a sin. Has this country become so Godless that politics gets sunk to an all time low?

But for the Grace of God who cares what any of the candidates middle names are or their heritage. Too much is being made of background and heritage I am an independent and when you look at the entire field of candidates dont't look for the pettiness or blame their campaings for the crap that the Neo Con media is sloshing around out there. It's not Barack or Hilliary or McCain or anyone else putting this crap in print it's the media. Instead of pointing fingers and harping stop the media from deciding who is going to be President of the United States. To me experience in world affairs and deplomacy and restoring the good name and standing of this Great Nation in the world is more important than all the crap I have read here. You make up your mind based on the qualities it takes to be a great leader. American voters made a mistake twice in the last 8 years and it is going to take a real leader to repair the damage that has been done to this Great Nation based on lies and manipulation. The Constitution of the United State of America is not just a piece of paper. Vote for the candidate that has those qualities to heal the wounds inflicted by this corrupt and deceptive administration.

Dumb article. Whats the big deal that is his name. Stop trying to make Hillary Clinton look bad for something thats not even an issue. The media needs to take a Hillary bashing break and get a life. I am sure there are more news worthy stories to cover. Perhaps we can debate experience or voting records, but then again that would put Obama at a disadvantage and the republican lead media wouldnt want to do that. The republicans cant wait to have obama nominated so they can rip him to shreads. Good democrats, dont let it happen. Vote for strength and experience, vote for Hillary!

Well, Barak Hussein Obama! That name sounds really Muslim to me and that;s something Barak can't hide or feel defensive about it. What his campaign have tried to do is to hide the fact that Barak is half Muslim and his father was was Muslim.
Instead of trying to hide his heritage and father's religion he should talk about. Isn't he who is talking about change and bringing people together?

What are the Dems so worried about with Oprama's middle name mentioned? It is his middle name, yes? He does have an Islamic background that cannot be honestly denied; and his middle name just so happens to reflect this little discussed fact. Those that claim racism are hiding behind an old race card that has become worn and tattered. When all else fails, let's pull the race card, that will get some people stirred. For my part, it is one weird coincidence that six years after 911; a potential Presidential candidate comes out of the political woodwork that just so happens to have an Islamic background. Wow, that is wild, man, wild. A little too wild for my tastes. I am racially and religiously tolerant, but what are the chances? We have not had a potential Presidential candidate with an Islamic background or heritage in the 200 years we have been an organized nation. Suddenly, we have a candidate that says all the right things that he knows some people "need" to hear. I am not confused. I am not supporting him because he is a lousy dancer. Ellen should have had him bake cookies or knit a sweater instead. His much discussed race and little discussed religion have nothing to do with it.

Think before you post. It's not the mere fact that he brought up his middle name, but the relatedness of his comment to the fact he's endorsed HRC and is expecting favors from her.In addition, for a lot of crazies out there, it's open season on muslims. I'm sure you're aware of this fact. So, reminding people of Obama's mddle name plays to that insanity.

Oh my god! Unfrickin'-belieavable!
Huffington Post is doing their utmost to keep the negative spin going against Clinton.
What amazes me is how many feed off the frenzy.
Some of you need to take a deep breath and chill for a minute.
Any one of the democratic candidates would be a breath of fresh air compared to what we have lived with the past 7-8 years.

Today - in 2007, racist trolls jump on a man's middle name. An educated public servant reaching out to unite people, regardless of their religion, deserves some measure of respect.

I worked for Bob Kerrey and he has been my favorite politician since 1988. I have prayed that he would be elected President ever since then. I am shocked to find that today, with his underhanded smear of Obama, that I will never trust anything he says again. I imagine the Clintons purchased his subtle smear for a high price. Karl Rove could have written the same comments. I feel like a naive child who just found out his hero is the opposite of a hero. Maybe I should seek counseling at a cult awareness group. I hope there is a limit to the number of Robert Hansens in the Democratic Party.

First, they complain that Hillary Rodham Clinton always gets her middle name included, and that somehow showed a bias toward her.
Now, they want us to leave out Barack Hussein Obama's middle name because it somehow evokes unpleasant images.
Make up your minds, Obama crybabies. Which one is it?

If there is any doubt about whether this is racist and prejudiced, then replace all of the Muslim comments with Jewish:
"I think [Insert Jewish name here]'s name may be a weakness to Republicans, but I think it is a strength. First, he is [Jewish], and he can speak to [young Jews] in a way that no white person can. I mean there are hundreds of millions of [Jews] in the world and he can speak to them in a way that no one can"
"lead with it as a strength. There's this nonsense out there about him being a [Jewish] Manchurian candidate. He should do a commercial, look the camera straight in the eye, and say, 'My wife Michelle and I are Christians, but my father was a {Jew] and my paternal grandfather was a [Jew], and that fact and my name means I can speak to [millions of] people around the world who need to hear from the United States."

Added passive aggression is not what America needs. It is this particular dispositon that alienates America from the rest of World and cuases America's extreme unpopularity across the pond. A politics of fear played on stereotypes is one aspect of politics that Barack Obama wants to change.
Mr. Kerry's allusions are a shining example of why we need Barack Obama as President.

The conventional wisdom today is candidates who can give the best speeches, media savvy answers or are the best talking heads on television is somehow equivalent to leadership in which no historical record of actions and results are required for qualifications. I think our electronic-media generation that is behind Senator Obama is confusing great media public relations with leadership.
Sure Senator Obama can give a firery speech and shout in social-economic political rhyme but has trouble with putting a legislative bill together without the help of Senator Biden or Senator Kennedy. I will vote for someone less flashy and less caviler, unlike Senator Obama, for someone with great ideas and with a solid record and experience in all aspects in government.
In the end, leadership is the sum of a candidate's record of actions and achievements to date, that include both wins and losses to define the candidates's ability, character, and moral compass to lead and elevation of stature.

Why are people so outraged that someone brought up Obama's middle name? Hussein is a muslim name - Obama has Muslim roots and blood ties. This is a Fact! and unless Barack is ashamed of it then where is the wrong doing??Is he nervous? Does he have something to hide?? This makes me more suspicious of Obama than of the motives of his competitors!! All is fair in political races (according to Edwards and Obama) Obama and his people are quick to point out any and every thing they feel can make them look stronger and the other candidate weaker- so what is different here?? We have a right to know as much as is out there about who may one day run our country!

You have no decency and i can only pray that your ignorance and the ability of Iowans to see above your words will finally bring this country together.
Division politics is her game and now we see again and again its yours too.
Americans hopefully don't want to keep playing pawns to the powerful elite who want to beat us down by hook or crook.
Iowa the ball is in your court and may you see the truth and deliver this country to a new direction where our children are not used to keep the military industrial complex and the corporations in power. God has sent us a deliverer but as Jesus said may those with ears hear and those with eyes see.

Sadhana khan, it may be the truth, but it is still a "dig." When you bring up something -- even if true -- knowing that it will generate negative emotions, that IS negative campaigning. Look at the recent events surrounding the resignation of Bill Shaheen. He told the truth about Sen. Obama's drug use as a teenager; and the possible use of the issue by Republicans in the general election. Yet he lost his job over it. That was because it was considered negative campaigning.

remember when John Kerry said Mary Cheney is a lesbian... guess what.. he told the truth..
when bob Kerrey says Obama's father is a muslim and there are a billion muslims in the world, and his middle name is hussein and this might lead the Muslim world to view him more favorably... what is he doing wrong..
isn't he a calling a spade a spade..
POLITICS IS POLITICS.. obama defenders are sooo sensitive....
he has said Nominating Clinton amounts to fighting the wars of the 90's when we are in a new century.. there is nothing wrong about that either..
to me.. OBAMA is too green.. IN 2005-and 2006 he missed 33% of his votes. Contrast that to Clinton who only missed 20% even though she was running for relection in New York.
When Clinton says she worked for change, while OBAMA hopes for it, their senate attendance record gives credence to that. PLUS change = standing up to the Bush Administration, and their voting record indicates that Clinton actually stands up more against Bush then Obama.

Barack should come out and say, "My middle name is 'Hussein'." Then describe what it means and what it means to him, then say, "I understand how people can take a good long look at my name. It's only natural. It's a large part of a person's identity. But if you can't trust me because of my middle name, I don't want your vote. If you can accept it or even look past it, then I welcome you as I welcome every American to join me in rebuilding our standing in the world and remaking our government into an institution that works again." He should be strong and forceful on this issue. He might not need a Mitt Romney/Mormon speech yet (a horrible Romney speech, btw), but he should probably address it in some way.

"Ron Paul raises over six million dollars in 24 hours..." That doesn't mean anything if he can't turn the dollars into votes. Ron Paul took in $4.2 million in a 24-hour period back in early November and he has very little to show for it. The current polls show him at only 4.3% nationally. In the first six caucuses and primaries he is doing only slightly better: Iowa 5.7%, New Hampshire 7.0%, Michigan 4.5%, Nevada 5.0%, South Carolina 6.3% and Florida 4/0%.

Since he was born of a Muslim father, according to all four schools of Sunni Sharia jurisprudence, as well as that of the Shiite denominations, Barack Obama was, in fact, a Muslim. He was also raised as a Muslim in his early childhood years, and even recited the Shihada at elementary school.
He claims not to have been particularly religious until he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior sometime in his early adulthood. This, also according to every mainstream interpretation of Islamic law, is apostasy from Islam, which is indeed a capitol offense.
Consider how much weight the Democrats put into the idea about formulating a foreign policy based on "why Muslims hate us." What will the Muslim world think about the "Great Satan" led by its first Muslim-apostate president? That would be even worse than our first Jewish president, wouldn't it?
Maybe democrats should re-think nominating Obama. It may become another western, "root cause" for terrorism that needs to be appeased.

For Kerry to announce that Osama Bin Obama (is) “smarter and more talented than I ever was” reeks of Kerry’s blatant “dunce”. Who is everyone on the planet trying to fool? Obama for President? Hillary for President? Come on people! Is this all that could be dredged up from the muck? Would someone please try to resuscitate John Kennedy and have him run for president; at least John Kennedy had enough savvy to pull the missiles out of Cuba without pushing the N-button.
Our future president - I envision Obama at the table negotiating with his fellow Muslim, Osama bin Laden.
Furthermore, I ask, legitimately: why should we not have Bonzo the chimpanzee, nominated as Obama’s vice-presidential running mate at the esteemed Democratic National Convention?
We need a bigger circus people.

Bill has taken over Hillary's campaign. I am afraid that this new development points up that Hillary's primary experience is riding the Bill show as First Lady. Now that things are getting a little hot she has resorted to taking cheap shots at Obama and letting her husband take control again. Hillary has let Bill take over control of her campaign.
If only Bill had showed up for Gore in 2000, or to oppose this President's disastrous policies over the past 8 years. It makes me wonder what he is about. And his comment that he was against the Iraq war like Obama is, I am afraid, nothing better than disingenuous. It makes me question Bill's self control again.
Anyway, Bill is no Kennedy. His new attempt to copy Obama by saying Hillary is a "change agent" (see article linked to above) sounds like more marketing to me. As recently as a few months ago Hillary was going along with Bush to vote the Iraqi army as terrorists.
What Hillary and Bill should be doing is what Obama is doing. Talking about getting out of Iraq and starting to talk to other countries who are not friendly. Huckabee had it right when he said our President is in an "arrogant bunker mentality." And Hillary already has chastised Obama by saying she won't talk to suspicious nations unless she "knows what their intentions are." Well how are you going to know unless you talk to them? It's another more of the same catch 22.

The facts are:
- Obama was behind Clinton in polls in Iowa - his advisers and handlers persuaded him to attack - even if he had to resort to half truths and illusions.
- Obama then attacked - politics as usual - when behind find a way to attack the leader regardless of whom you hurt and how.
- Obama surged ahead and now tied with Clinton in Iowa. He should not be attacked - only he can attack. If others attack, it is an "act of desperation".
- Obama is an illogical man and should never be elected dog catcher.

Bob Kerrey is a war criminal. This is part of the record--it is even part of his Wikipedia entry. Look it up. The Village Voice did a number of stories on the topic. He was in charge of a SEAL mission that killed, according to his account, around 14 people, almost all women and children. He has disavowed any direct hand, but at least two of his fellow SEALs say he was directly involved.

These leftist writers and editors, I tel ya.
I bet they are both Middle-Eastern (Semitic)American. The ones that try to create a guilt-complex onto the Christian Americans as their leader, Israel Cohen (Communist) taught them.

"Bob Kerrey- a man who claimed to have flown combat missions over Vietnam. That was later found to be a lie. A phoney resume enhancer.
If I were Obama, I'd be glad I didn't get his support."
-Elroy Jetson
Elroy, you have no idea what you are talking about. Kerrey was a Navy SEAL during vietnam, not a pilot. You need to cite a reference to him actually lieing rather than saying he did so - you come across as just a phony Obama supporter willing to say anything to undermine any of Clinton's support. Do at least a minimal amount of research next time because you picked the wrong veteran to smear. Here is text which accompanies Senator Kerrey's Medal of Honor:
"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a SEAL team leader during action against enemy aggressor (Viet Cong) forces. Acting in response to reliable intelligence, Lt. (jg.) Kerrey led his SEAL team on a mission to capture important members of the enemy's area political cadre known to be located on an island in the bay of Nha Trang . In order to surprise the enemy, he and his team scaled a 350-foot sheer cliff to place themselves above the ledge on which the enemy was located. Splitting his team in 2 elements and coordinating both, Lt. (jg.) Kerrey led his men in the treacherous downward descent to the enemy's camp. Just as they neared the end of their descent, intense enemy fire was directed at them, and Lt. (jg.) Kerrey received massive injuries from a grenade which exploded at his feet and threw him backward onto the jagged rocks. Although bleeding profusely and suffering great pain, he displayed outstanding, courage and presence of mind in immediately directing his element's fire into the heart of the enemy camp. Utilizing his radioman, Lt. (jg.) Kerrey called in the second element's fire support which caught the confused Viet Cong in a devastating crossfire. After successfully suppressing the enemy's fire, and although immobilized by his multiple wounds, he continued to maintain calm, superlative control as he ordered his team to secure and defend an extraction site. Lt. (jg.) Kerrey resolutely directed his men, despite his near-unconscious state, until he was eventually evacuated by helicopter. The havoc brought to the enemy by this very successful mission cannot be overestimated. The enemy soldiers who were captured provided critical intelligence to the allied effort. Lt. (jg.) Kerrey's courageous and inspiring leadership, valiant fighting spirit, and tenacious devotion to duty in the face of almost overwhelming opposition sustain and enhance the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service."

Speaking of names...why the 'hil-o-copter'? Why not 'The Broom'?

Kerrey told the New York Observer back in May that he thought Obama's name and heritage were a big strength, he still thinks it's good experience actually.

This is a very stupid
article. Husseim is
his middle name. It is
very proper to use it
in referring to the
Candidate. The writer
and his editor need to
get a life.

don't know what happened to the post I wrote --- but this statemtent "In order to provide coverage for 85% by replacing what we have with a second rate, extremely expensive socialized version that forces everyone into governement coverage" Was not written to read that way. What I said was.. In order to provide coverage to less than 15% of the country, she will scrap the best medical care available in the world for the other 85% and replace it with a second reate socialized process we are forced to use. ----

chris - "but right now, the best choice for our children, our soldiers and our Nation, is Senator Clinton." ---- Humm, lets see, with her we get a lefist who has historically leaned not just to socialism, but to communism (want proof - read her college thesis). In order to provide coverage for 85% by replacing what we have with a second rate, extremely expensive socialized version that forces everyone into governement coverage. Increase taxs to the point of stagnating the economy far worse than her husband ever did. Exact unconstitional government control over corporate America. And, engage in "wealth redistribution" across the board - the democrats say this is to rebuild the middle class, but in fact, it is a plan to taking the money straigt out of the pockets of warking America and divide it up using guidelines chosen by the government... In other words, no longer government controlled by the people, but the people being controlled by the government... Think hard, is this what you want?

rocknroll - "(straight out of the "Republican playbook" co-authored by Hillary and her main advisers Mark Penn and Howard Wolfson)," What, now that it is coming to light what a wolf in sheep's clothing HRC is, you are trying to paint her as a republican??? Hummm.... has the dem mantra now actually morphed into.. All republicans are bad and if a Democrat is bad, they must be a republican too??? Seriously...what a joke.

And what's with "George Herbert Walker Bush" anyways? Multiple middle names? That's odd... did they forget to cross one out when choosing?
Posted by: rockynroll | Dec 17, 2007 3:09:42 AM
and as much as it may hurt your pride, do what's best for America and send Senator Clinton to the White House.....the other Democratic candidates could possibly do a decent job, but right now, the best choice for our children, our soldiers and our Nation, is Senator Clinton.....whether you agree with that or not.....

Bob Kerrey himself said, "Clinton's an unusually good liar. Unusually good. Do you realize that?" Was he speaking of Bill or Hill? Sounds like he learned a thing or two about lying from them, anyways, as he could now say the same thing about himself. Kerrey's just acting in simple self-interest by endorsing this Corporation disguised as human being called Hillary Clinton. Kerrey's motive is obvious to anyone with 1/2 a brain. This creep knows someone like Obama or Biden does not seek (and, more likely, would seek to avoid) his impotent endorsement, so, in a "swift" move, he pokes at Obama's middle name (straight out of the "Republican playbook" co-authored by Hillary and her main advisers Mark Penn and Howard Wolfson), endorses this robot, and then tries to spin it as if he did something kind for Obama. Kerry has become such a great liar under the tutelage of the Clintons that he probably believes his own B/S. It's really sad. (Kerrey: Go listen to some more Rush Limbaugh. You might learn of some more "fun" ways to underhandedly swipe at others while actually inflicting damage on the candidate you have endorsed.)

I'm sure glad you reported all of Kerry's remarks', Jake. Obviously if you look at his remarks' he just admitted Barack should really be the one to lead this nation, however, he's playing the "politics as usual" ticket. In his heart, he knows Barack should be the one, but he endorses Clinton thinking she'll get the nomination, and is possibly the better one to beat whatever the Republican's decide upon for a nominee, in the hope he'll get her support for his New School. He know's Barack won't scratch his back if he's the chosen one. I feel Mr. Kerry's "politics as usual" tactic is for naught.

Mariann Pepitone: If you believe this country needs someone with experience and intelligence as president, sure glad you're not running.

Obama will not be our first black president, that was Clinton. He will not be our first Islamic president, that was Carter. He won't be the first to bow before the enemy, that was Chamberlain.
He won't be the first to try to shuck and jive his way to the top. He won't be the first to offer hope by stealing hope from those you have already earned it and would like to keep it.
He may be the first to beat a Clinton and live to talk about it.
The Obamanation just keeps rolling along.

As a supporter of Obama who bristles when people go out of their way to use his middle name, I don't have a problem with what Kerrey said, except that I wish he hadn't sold out to the Clinton machine. But his comment mentions Barack's middle name in a positive context in which it's relevant. This is different from all the people who refuse to address him withOUT his middle name -- the only group of people on the Internet more annoying than Ron Paul fans.

Hillary is a pathetic dunce. Bill was elected promising universal health care. Congress was democratic. 80% of the public was behind it. The economy could support it. Yet her program was 1000% failure. She had another 6 years to try to revive it. Zero happened. Can anybody actually be that incompetent? Now there's an election, she's suddenly talking healthcare again - with a mandatory plan that's been proven not to work - except as a big windfall to the insurance lobbies that fund her. She flunked healthcare, Iraq, Iran, the Washington bar exam, and as a housewife. She can't manage a campaign without planting questions, widespread funding scandals, slanderous e-mails, personal attacks, and every manner of corruption. But wants to be your president. Obama is a brilliant and visionary leader with a powerful brain. He graduated first in his class at Harvard. He's a uniter with broad appeal that gets all the difficult things right
