Another failed Democratic presidential candidate for Obama

January 10, 2008 10:12 AM

In the last few hours, Obama's campaign has announced endorsements from Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., Sen. Tim Johnson, D-SD, and powerhouse Rep. George Miller, D-Calif.

This follows, last week, the backing of former Sen. Bill Bradley, D-NJ. (Which had the same benefit for Obama as it did for Howard Dean.)

It's raining men, hallelujah!

Some of us disagree about this, but I generall feel that the Kerry endorsement will not have much impact. Obama right now doesn't need institutional credibility, and he doesn't need yet the backing of yet another middle-aged white guy -- he has Edwards for that.

He needs women, he needs blacks, he needs working class voters. I don't see them necessarily being inspired en masse by Kerry.

If you’re dealing with Hillary, this is who you’re dealing with: “Hillary Rodham Clinton has been in the public eye for some 40 years, her face one of the best-known in the world. She has been both admired and reviled with great intensity. She is a First Lady full of other firsts - the first student to speak at her college commencement; the first First Lady to become a United States Senator; the first woman to be treated seriously as a candidate for president of the United States.” – CBS Evening News. And now, the first woman to have taken New Hampshire.

So Carter is failed too I bet.
Bill is the only one alive who counts.
Your bias for Clinton shows.

How is Kerry a failed political ? He is one of the top 50 or 100 most powerfully elected officials? A US Senator and a Democratic Party nominee who came very close to winning. Who by your delimitation is a success? Is it only the top 10? George Bush? I don't get it.

Hey spock: Does Hillary have any
experience yet? Aside from being
First Lady and one uneventful term as a U.S. Senator!

Bill Clinton blew it by not getting Bin Laden. That is why Hillary will not blow the chance if given. What would Obama do? He doesn't appear tough enough. he used drugs to escape his youth.

Mary: 9/11 occurred because the the terrorists hate American and our values. It was facilitated by the Clinton administration's dismantling of our military and intelligence apparatus, and by President Clinton's impotence in responding to other attacks. Your suggestion that "Big Oil" motivated President Bush to go to war is too ignorant and baseless to comment on. I work in the energy business. You have no idea what you are talking about, and even less knowledge of how international oil prices are set, the delicate balance between supply and demand, the fact regulatory hurdles have prevented any new refining capacity from being build in this country for more than two decades, or the fact that most of the major oil producing nations (Saudia Arabia, Russia, Venezuela, and others) need high prices to support their state sponsored social programs, or any of the myriad of additional factors that have driven market prices (which translate directly into what you pay at the pump). If you don't like capitalism, please move.

Or by any of his other endorsers, either, Jake. Political endorsements are necessary evils, but, I think, highly overrated. Most politicians' endorsements aren't all that influential, mainly because most voters wonder what the endorser will receive in exchange for his endorsement. Or am I being too cynical in automatically assuming a quid pro quo here?

pretty weak spin there SteveW. No one is buying that. I thought Obama was supposed to be Mr. Change not the favorite of a couple losers.

Well, these endorsers are experienced guys, after all, so if they trust Obama, he can lay some of the 'he's naive' comments aside. Obama doesn't need 'women'. He needs to convince older, traditional female Democrats that he is the better candidate. Even if he just convinces some of them, he's ahead of Clinton. And, if Clinton is painted into the corner where women over 50 are, Obama will win the 'electability' arguement big-time. Also, even though these endorsements will only be big news for a day or so, the idea that Obama has lots of traditional Democratic support will stick in voters' monds. If some of these endorsers counter the 'Bill' factor and campaign for Obama, the effect will multiply. Finally, consider this: had he invited Oprah to New Hampshire, she would have overshadowed Clinton's 'crying game', and he would have won there. Oprah's the best endorser he's got. The 'Big O' would have given him the 'Big Mo', and he would have been 'Two-and-Oh'.

I would like to hear more about Obama's youthful drug use. How extensive was it? For Obama to admit doing coke, weed, and booze in his book at least opens up the question what else he did.

It must be great to be a Clinton and watching/reading ABC today. Recovering the dead-and-buried Rezko story, putting a title such as "Another failed Democratic presidential Candidate for Obama"... Even in the article "Bill Factor" the author managed to insert a comment after asking a legimate question such as "Did you see racial overtones in what Clinton said? (For the record, I did not. But I am as white as the day is long.)"
Wonderful, guys!

It's a shame how ABC trys to downplay Obama, and trys to praise the Clintons.

ABC might be stupid, but the American people remember: White Water, Paula Jones, and Monica Lewinsky.

If being around Bill while he was in office is enough to get elected, then Monica 08!!!

Kerry's support will be one day front page that's all. Kerry's pay back to Edwards audacity to run again for the Presidency and to the Clintons for their lack of support during the 2004 run. On Obama, well they are doing the same strategy that worked for him in Illinois, talking fancy, smile, avoid the big fights, talk about change and the new for a fresh face at the same time that is riding the political machine supported by predator corporations and lobbyist as he all time did in Illinois.

The biggest failure of all time is our present Republican president.

Asleep at the wheel on 9/11, he recklessly plunged us into war to benefit his Big Oil patrons. Bring it on, Mission Accomplished: $3.50 gas and record Big Oil profits.

Dont worry Kerry will Flip Flop and say he supported Obama before he did not.

Has Obama answered any questions yet?
