Bill Clinton Contradicts Hillary on Running 'The Bureaucracy'
January 25, 2008 5:23 PM
The hydra that is Team Clinton is powerful, intelligent, and not always consistent.
Yesterday in Walterboro, SC, former President Bill Clinton said that “the President is not called the 'Chief Executive Officer of America' for nothing. You don’t run the bureaucracy but you are responsible for seeing that your ideas turn into positive changes in other people’s lives.”
(Listen to it HERE.)
Isn't that pretty much what Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said and was HAMMERED by Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, for saying?
Let's go to the transcript….
The original quote that so offended Sen. Clinton was in the Reno Gazette-Journal, when Obama said, "I don't think there is anybody in this race who can inspire the American people better than I can. And I don't think there is anybody in this race who can bridge differences ... better than I can. But I'm not an operating officer. Some in this debate around experience seem to think the job of the president is to go in and run some bureaucracy. Well, that's not my job. My job is to set a vision of 'here's where the bureaucracy needs to go.’”
At the Vegas debate, Clinton pushed back on what Obama said, repeatedly, countering that "I think you have to be able to manage and run the bureaucracy."
And in an interview with Bloomberg the next day, she said she was “taken aback” by Obama's admission. "I think it’s important that we have a president who understands that you have to run the government,” she said.
And on and on.
And then yesterday her husband -- who, presumably, would know -- said pretty much the complete opposite.

It is shame to see that CNN is playing this dirty game of politics and favoring pure partisan politics over journalism. If some one questioned our leaders or soldiers’ intention about war or any issues related to country's liberty, is not unpatriotic. A true patriot stands up and questioned the integrity of the leader despite fear of criticism.
Just wearing a flag pin probably made in China does not represent the patriotism. A true patriot does not show it by saying, copying or carrying leader’s wrong choice towards country’s freedom and prosperity but they do better than that by standing up, protesting against the bad will of a leader. Placing hand over heart is not a patriotism signal nor is it the test to pass patriotism.
It is very much disturbing to see that CNN is promoting this kind of nonsense instead of talking about everyday’s issues like healthcare, immigration, education, ending Iraq war, reducing proverty, promoting global peace, fixing social security and other important issues. This is a biased movement by CNN by allowing a poll which is a disgrace to its reputation. They should not play the referee but siding with powerful interest who is blocking all the doors to a real change. CNN did not cover the real story of McCain bluster instead they covered McCain defense strategy all the way and helped to put an end to that troubling past of McCain which could be a pivotal factor of McCain fallout.
CNN must need to understand patriotism is not just a word or show-off that can be achieved by taking a strong affiliation with war and abandoning peace. If you are not a war monger or if you talk against war and seeking peace, the notion is that you are not a patriotic. Playing war in your acts and damaging international integrity and costing trillions of dollars deficit, taking the country to the verge of bankruptcy, spreading fear to the people so that the people will close their eyes and follow the leaders blindfold, giving no bid contract to Halliburton are not the sign of patriotism.
Patriotism is not just following and steeping in the same footsteps of a misguided leader but true patriotism is to have courage of resisting the leader from its actions that could harm the country in different ways.

Won't somebody--anybody--just shut Bill Clinton up? Although he doesn't realize it, he's becoming more and more of a laughingstock, and he wasn't all that far removed from being one already!

Obama should align with an Ind. or Liberal Republican and go 3rd party. The Republicans and Billary will destroy each other and discourage the electorate. A joint ticket with him at the top would easily grab 40% of the electorate in November. He owes it to the cause to win!

I agree with most, if not all, of the previous comments concerning the Clintons. If one looks at the moral issue, you CAN put Bill Clinton and JFK in the same amoral theatre. They both enjoyed dalliances in the white house when the wife was away. As leaders, JFK was a head above Bill. No pun intended.
Even Dwight Eisenhower had an affair. I realize the Dem zealots hate the current President Bush, but he has more morals and scruples than the Dem candidtates, excluding Sen Obama. Drop the moral rhetoric and look at what is really important. What do these candidates really say about their plans for the economy, world politics, and other social issues? I, for one, and tired of hearing these candidates talk around issues and never state
specifics. Clinton was and still is famous for talking for hours and saying nothing. It will be interesting to see Hillary's War Room future smear tactics. The GOP has nothing that surpasses them.

Bill & Hillary is good for my health problem. Every time I hear them, I POOP. Better than buying X LAX.

Hillary? I would rather go for Cheney/Voldemort
Posted by: channa | Jan 26, 2008 3:37:15 PM
Whatever. Is that all you can come up with? ABC, you have devoted so much money bashing Clinton since Iowa, and this is all you can come up with?
Pathetic.

Please lets not mortgage our future. Its time for real change. No more LIES from the Clintons.
Bill & Hilary think they can get away with anything. Its time to tell them no. The problem is that they get most of their vote from the uneducated who don't read blogs/news.

can tell you that myself, some friends and family have gotten turned off by the Clinton's behaviour to do anything to win. Their behavior and distortions, like on Meet the Press, in which Hilalry said: "Sen. Obama's chief strategist accuses me of playing a role in Benazir Bhutto's assassination.'' When in actuality David Axelrod never made such an accusation. He said former Prime Minister Bhutto's death will ''call into issue the judgment'' of ''taking the eye off the ball and making the wrong judgment in going into Iraq.'' and their recent attempt at voter suppresion in Nevada, entering racially devisive remarks into the campaign to dvide black and white voters. A compelling story can be heard from the former President of Now, Lorna Brett Howard, who Switched from Clinton to Obama, You Tube Video in which she explains that Hillary lied on Obama in regards to womens' issues so she is now supporting Obama.
These kinds of demeaning and unethical tactics from both of the Clintons, have shown a number of people another side to them which they did not know existed and it does not look pretty. In their attempt to achieve power, they have divided the paty and it is a deep division. They seem more like Karl-Rove Republicans than Democrats and it is a shame to see their moral demise! There is a negative way to fight (lies and distortions) and a positive way to fight. The leaders we elect into the highest office of the land should be men and women of principal and high moral character and should not engage in behavior unbefitting the highest office in the land.
In the future, there will have to be some kind of Campaign Reform: Rules and Regulations from the Perspective Parties in the way politicians run their campaigns to keep them truthful and from distorting one another's records.

The Washington times indicates that the Clintons are in for a fight should they win the general election.
And I thought the GOP would rehash all the old scandals, not bring to light new ones.
Face it: the GOP wants her to win, not Obama. They have way more anti-Clinton ammunition stockpiled than anti-Obama ammunition.

This is just another fact proving that the Clinton's make false promises and spit out rhetoric...
As I watched the results of the Iowa caucus, my heart was filled with complete and absolute joy... I thought that finally... Democrats are making the right choice. I wish I could bottle up the excitment and happiness that I was feeling while watching the results that night.
But now, just a few weeks later my heart is filled with sadness.
I haven't lost all hope yet(yes... thats right I said HOPE), but these new polls that are coming out nation wide are seriously making me reconcider my party affiliation. This is not the ideas and politics I support!
For the life of me, I don't understand how ANYONE could stand by the Clinton's and support these shenanigans... The same Bush/Rove style that has led us to were we are now!
Too all of you Democrats that think Obama is dividing the party ... SHAME ONE YOU!!!! I couldn't repeat that enough times to get the point across. How dare you accuse Obama of being Divisive. It's these stlye of politics that the Clinton's have used that are divisive... and for you to say that Obama is divisive because his supporters will not be morally okay with voting for the same style of politics that were trying to get away from is just plain wrong!
Wake up Democrats... I cannot believe that our party is going to let a chance like this slip by us...
Obama has the intelect and vision to bring Dem's, Rep's and Ind's together to tackel the issues that the Bush admin. has made far worse... But festered long before he took office. He will change the face of politics and of the Democratic party... securing a solid future for the DNC.
The damage that will be caused by a Clinton win in the primary is going to change the Democratic party forever... It will cripple it... It's a guarentee that almost all of Obama's young supporters will leave the Democratic party. This is going to destroy the future of the DNC... Great idea dem's... push away all your future support.
A.B.C. (Anybody but Clinton)

I have been watching all the democratic debates and specially rallies of Obama and Clinton's campaign. Obama is a great person and so far I have never seen him engage in any negative talks or dirty tricks to the rivals other than the issues differences. I have seen him standing over race, gender issues and bring hope and unity to this presidential race. I have seen him inspiring more peoples than any other candidates of recent history. In this early stage of election, he draws more young, independents, women, aged than any other contender in the recent history. He is a unique leader who can bring this country together to a common goal and heals our nation's wound. It is unfortunate that the powerful interest does not see that way and they don't want to see change in Washington for their benefits so they are backing the Clinton who will serve the special interest groups better. The interest group like Bob Johnson and other do not want us to be accountable for our own action and be part of this nation's future. They want us to stay away and be the victims of our own future. Please I am urging to everyone to see through this Clinton’s or anyone's dirty tactics of division, bitterness and embrace the fresh and inspired goal to destiny of success.

I just read an article basically saying that..The republicans got some stuff on hillary that the public don't know about that will sink the democrats in november and the top dems are scared of her winning b/c they know she will lose a lot of voters and the republicans are praying, hoping wishing she is the nominee so they can unload on her.

Great comment from an S.F. talkshow host: "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Obama took the heat, it's Hillary that called in the firemen at the first little fire.
Posted by: Ann | Jan 25, 2008 10:50:08 PM
GS...the Clintons didn't get us out of the red, the 90's Internet boom did. Everybody made tons of money and paid more taxes putting us in the green. Obama had to be passoniate that night of the debate, it was time to go on the offense after trying to be the bigger person. America, don't be fooled, vote Obama. It is the older folks that need to get out there and do some research. The in the prime crowd seems to get it, but the oldies don't. Open you eyes please people, we need to turn this country around.

Obama is a politician from Chicago, the most corrupt city in the nation. Is he going to change the whole country into the political cesspool that Chicago is? He has no business comparing himself to MLK or JFK.
Posted by: Paul | Jan 25, 2008 10:47:08 PM
Obama is a very divisive character and he is tearing the party apart. It is time for this ambitious politician to back off on attacking the leader of the Democratic Party.

Finally ... Bill Clinton just comes out and endorses Obama.

I believe that Bill is suffering from early onset alzhiemers and we should all encourage him to seek some medical advice.
Posted by: HeatherH | Jan 25, 2008 10:13:13 PM
It has been proven many times that Obama has the experience, judgment and intellect to be President. Hillary only looks after herself, uses others and no moral qualms about saying one thing, even a lie, and then doing the opposite. The people that support her are being used by her. She WILL lose in the general election. People, please realise this.

This is the politics of anything goes, lies, distortions, divisiveness...and apparently it works! Check out the polls showing Hillary up 12 points in California, 23 points in New York.
Wake up America, is this really what you want for the next 4-8 years???
Tell Hillary 'no' on February 5th, and help heal this country.

I appreciate Mr. Trapper being one of the few people truly taking the Clintons to task on their outrageous words and actions.
It has been clear for some time now that the Clintons will say and do anything they believe will be politically advantageous. Unfortunately, their mindset is exactly the same as Karl Rove's. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd ever see Democrats, especially an ex-President who I admired and voted for twice, stoop to this disgraceful level.
How a person runs their campaign says everything about how they will run their White House. We saw it with Bush/Rove. We're seeing it with the Clintons. We've had enough. They will continue to destroy this country the way they are currently destroying the Democratic Party. We have the power to change that at the polls.
Enough Bush/Clinton. Enough distortions and lies. Enough of do or say anything for power. We know what the definition of is is.

Yes, please vote for Obama on the day of your primary. But also please call the DNC, your representatives, and the three campaigns to tell them what you're thinking. I told them that I have every classic liberal position, on everything from Iraq to health insurance to gay marriage to climate change, but I'll campaign for McCain if Hillary is the nominee.
I've always been told by friends in politics that a phone call is treated as more important than an email. So find the phone numbers and dial 'em!

As a woman, it is disappointing that Hillary is so dependent on Bill Clinton to drag her across the finish line in this campaign. It confirms she can't handle the job. Or that she is just a front for a third term for her husband Bill. They are not to be trusted. I am turning the page with Obama. He can unite us with bipartisan support and get the job done. And he can be truthful with us. And I find that most important. The Clintons just lie.

Will everyone who has posted comments about the Clintons' behavior in this campaign please talk to 10 undecided voters about what you have noticed? I'm glad we have the blogging community...there is also a world out there that doesn't even know the word 'blog.' Please reach out to them.

I'm a democrat who voted for Clinton in 96 and was torn between Hillary and Obama, but seeing on what I've seen from Hillary has convinced me that they are exactly the same peopple that we're running away from. They would do and say anthing to win the presidency. Don't be fooled, this is a team effort on their part to take over power.
Clintons are from the same gutter as Cheney and Bush. Say no more to "karl Rove" Politics. Obama is the intellingent, ccomplished, uniting and insipiring leader that we need right now.

Alright everybody. I see we are all in agreement here. We may be talking but let's put this man in office. Let's PLEASE put this man in office. I am with all of you. I too have seen the trash these people have dealt and I have written to the DNC about it along with thousands and thousands of others. And I'm not kidding! BE SURE TO VOTE FOR HIM when the time comes. We can all change this so quickly. VOTE FOR HIM!

IF THAT DOESN'T SHOW YOU THAT SHE IS NOT READY TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY, WHAT WILL?
Posted by: KHALIL | Jan 25, 2008 8:37:58 PM
Please the vote out for Obama. I believe we can keep the bad guys from winning this time. But it's up to us to saying 'Enough!' to a government me can't trust, much less respect.
Posted by: Lmoo | Jan 25, 2008 8:33:43 PM
As Molly Ivins famously said, "When someone tells you who they are, believe them."
Jake, I think you missed the message there. Team Clinton plans to divide up the job of President as follows:
Bill: Chief Executive Officer of America. Not running the bureaucracy, but responsible for seeing that their (i.e., his) ideas turn into positive changes in other people’s lives.
Hillary: Managing and running the bureaucracy.
Posted by: Tom J | Jan 25, 2008 8:26:11 PM
At this point, Bill and Chelsea are probably the only ones who could believe in her.
I hope South Carolina isn't fooled by all their dirty politics and tactics. Bill has been unbelievable even for him. I'm hearing now their tactics to divide the vote down racial lines might be working.
Vote for Obama South Carolina. We are better than this and have come to far.

People don't waste your vote to make a difference!!! Don't vote for Hillary just because she is a woman. Don't voter for her just because you remember Bill. Look at them now. They both have done unforgivable things throughtout this campaign. People like this should not run our country. Obama is in this for ALL OF US!!!!! Unlike the Clinton's who are in this for themselves and the power.
Please do your FACT CHECKS. Think of what kind of future we are handing to our children and grandchildren. They desreve better then this.
Posted by: Tired of the Clinton's | Jan 25, 2008 8:21:23 PM
Washington mafia or real change? A vote for Clinton is a vote for politics as usual...except even worse.
Posted by: Deborah | Jan 25, 2008 8:13:11 PM
hillary we are still waiting for those documents you are refusing to release.change begins by confessing and releasing all the stuff, then we can talk about your so called 35 years of experience. are you sure hillary you are doing this for yourself or for Bill. it is begining to show by the venomous tirade and attacks he is unleashing on Barack and the media personnel.
Posted by: nason | Jan 25, 2008 8:02:48 PM
Obama: now thats the President! He knows what a president does. Hillary lacks expirience to even know what the president does! My question who is going to led this country is it HILLARY or BILL. No MORE Clintons!!!

I am so digusted with this Obama Grand standing .It was totally RUDE how he Hogged the Stage at the last debate. It took Edwards Calling him down and Reminding him that they had Three debaters not one.The Look he gave Edwards Gave me chills. What is America thinking Have we not had enough of arrogance in the White House to last a Life time?? The Clintons did well in the presidency for 8 years, at least he got us out of the red.
Posted by: GS | Jan 25, 2008 7:40:48 PM
It sounds like Sen. Clinton will attack Obama no matter what he says. If he says the sky is blue, her camp will come up with something to the contrary. She is obviously using the tatic of confusion, much like President Bush. She is continuously taking Sen. Obama's words and defining them to be what she wants the public to presume. I will not endorse anyone who's willing to result to such trickery. America has been bamboozled enough by its current president. Why is Sen. Clinton not defining her own visions to the public instead of "summarizing" everything Sen. Obama says? RED FLAG AMERICA: WE HAVE A CANIDATE THAT WILL WEASLE AND WORM TO GET AMERICANS TO BELIEVE WHAT SHE WANTS THEM TOO!
Posted by: Kiara | Jan 25, 2008 7:12:38 PM
I've called all three campaigns to let them know that, despite being as liberal a Democrat as you'll find, I simply won't be able to support Hillary in a general election. I just can't stand the thought of four more years without having any respect for my president.
Posted by: Dave | Jan 25, 2008 6:59:13 PM
If you are a voter who says they want "change" in washington, but then you support these two, who can't even CAMPAIGN differently, and continue the politics of slime, then you, voter, don't really want politics to Change....so stop fibbing.

THE CLINTONS WILL SAY ANYTHING BUT CHANGE NOTHING.
Posted by: christ F | Jan 25, 2008 6:42:04 PM
She was there for all his sucesses and none of his failures. That arguement just doesn't relate to where she stands. You can't take credit for the good stuff and hand off blame for the bad. That's just re-inforcing the worst kind of stereotype from the last century. Hilliary Clinton. A 20th century woman, in a 21st century world.
Posted by: ugh! | Jan 25, 2008 5:45:12 PM
It's a shame that so many people continue to support the Clinton's. Perhaps America isn't really ready for change. With all that continues to come out on HRC and Bill, I just can't believe she still leads in the polls. BTW, this isn't even the big stuff teh Repubs will use come Fall 2008.
Posted by: SOS | Jan 25, 2008 5:43:50 PM
We must listen to General Hillary as she is the only one who really knows! Everyone knows she was in charge and not Bill, when HE was president. What would he know about it. Geeezzz. Lets NOT elect this vile woman!!
