Clyburn Says Racial Attacks Will Toughen Up Obama
January 21, 2008 9:07 AM
The House Majority Whip, South Carolina kingmaker Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-SC, had some interesting things to say about the Clinton-Obama fighting, when we interviewed him for tonight's Nightline.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Clyburn Says Racial Attacks Will Toughen Up Obama:
The one thing that voters have learned from history is not to learn from history. In 2000 the voters, with a lot of help from the media, selected George W. Bush on character over Al Gore on the issues. Now again with the help of our media, we are choosing the attractive character of Obama over the substance of Clinton.
The Obama followers are swallowed up with the hope of change. If the Obama people believe that when or if Obama is elected President that the Republicans and Democrats will be holding hands and singing 'Cum bye ah" in the streets and alley ways of the promise land, then they need to quickly go on Prozac.
If the Obama people are really concerned with change, why didn't they vote in the primary for Dennis Kunich and John Edwards who were the real agents of change?

All the fanfare of the media saying that the Clintons injected race in South Carolina, or elsewhere, is a bunch of hogwash! Show me the words that say such, and don't take their words out of context. Show me the words where Hillary demeaned the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, or the words where Bill Clinton called Obama a fairytale. The words I read indicated that the great leadership and sacrifices of King and civil rights workers still needed a President to help push and make the civil rights laws. Bill Clinton's remarks called the media's lack of attention to Obama's Iraq voting record a fairytale. His voting record on Iraq, once he became a senator, is the same as Hillary's. The news these days appears to be based on soundbites instead of the facts. For those of us who have always supported civil rights and equality, the current reporting and blogging are very disheartening. Please stop taking words out of context!
Sincerely,
Georgia

"Obama-mania"is a mirage, not the dream that Madison Ave.is attempting to sell.In realpolitik they are stoking false hope assuring their Republican client/boardmembers of a Democratic convention walkout by his core when he DOESN'T get the nomination. With middle name HUSSEIN,and last name sounding like OSAMA!Somewhere Cheney is humming"it's begining tolook alotlike Christmas..."

I prefer Obama's approach to the Social Security crisis, health care, foreign relations, national service, trade, and economics. If I can't vote for Obama in the general elction, I'll vote McCain. I suppose the Clintons will send out mailers, commercials, and radio spots that say Obama is secretly trying to rig the race for a Republican as they will say or do anything to get elected. Kind of like the way Bush got us into this was.

'Judge not by one's skin color but by the content of their character'.
Barack Obama is very honest and truthworthy and a straight-talker.
Hilary Clinton is a cheat, liar, and has an heir of entitlement.
Now let us judge barack and hilary by their character, l will pick Obama anyday.

Obama is Black??
Obama is starting to sound like a cry baby, like - not fair they are tag teaming me wha wha wha!!
In the debate I love his excuse for never taking a stand in the Illinois Legislature by just voting present, usually people vote present to not take a stand since it counts as a no but does not put you on record as voting no.

Yes Bill needs to shut up and what is it that makes the Clintons "black" anyway? I just don't get it. Here is a real black, very charismatic, talented candidate and there is all this discussion of race among the black community. That just doesn't make sense to me. I don't get it that "some" black leaders are not supporting him. I don't get it that the Clintons say they want equality and fairness for all African Americans and are so vicious in attacking the one person who accomplished so much and CAN BE ELECTED PRESIDENT of this country.
Barack Obama captivates his audiences. He will lead us, unite us and listen to us; not make decisions for us like Clinton/Bush. We have had that kind of politics for at least 16 years yet some people believe we need 4 more years of that. Don't think so.
Obama represents change and the future...the Clintons represent divisiveness and the past.
I sure hope the black community wakes up and realizes the "old school" black politician whether it be Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton or Al Sharpton just isn't what America needs. We have to move past this and now is the time!
I don't remember any discussion of whether we had black or white fireman and policemen rush into those twin towers. Wake up America...we have an opportunity to make a real difference with our votes.

Correction: Clearly, the media are giving Obama a free ride.

Obama is not entitled to the presidency. He has to earn it. He needs to develop thick skin, take over his campaign, and stop running against Bill. Clyburn's bias has already been shown when he spoke to Mr. Clinton's comments based upon media spin, and not reading or listening to the entire speech. Clearly, the media is giving Obama a free ride.

Why can't anyone talk about Obama's "junkie" days? I don't get it. Obama admitted to being a big user booze, pot, and cocaine. Maybe that's why he admits to losing things and not wanting to get memos until 2 minutes before he has to. Anyone hear about his medical history at all?

Keep playing the race card, Jim Clyburn has just put the nail on the Obama presidential campaign's coffin. Sad.

Obama is out there hustling and pandering for the black votes. Nothing more than a lesser known Sharpton of Jackson. Was he at a Hispanic church yesterday? A White Church? An Asian Church? NO, NO, NO. He is throwing a little hissy fit because Mr. Clinton speaks out. Wasn't a problem when Oprah did it. It's not Clinton's fault Obama's ghetto trash wife has no idea how to pronounce Nevada.

We all know that Clyburn supports Obama; he can't publicly come out because of his promise to the DNC for not endorsing to have his SC state some voice.
That is the bottom line. This guy was looking to endorse and nothing else. So, stop publishing as if it is some big deal. He is biased and if you never figured that out after watching him on the networks talk about Obama, then you are not seeing reality.

Jim Clyburn should realize that the discussion is about politics. Obama negates politics, the media give him an easy walk to do so. Obama yesterday: "It is not enough to give health care to the sick, or jobs to the jobless, or education to our children."
Omama prefers "to heal this nation and to repair this world". He has no political offer, he offers spiritual healing.
"There are very few white public officials who have had a longer period of dedication to racial justice than the Clintons," so Clarence B. Jones, King's former speechwriter.

Who cares? Obama's skin thickness or lack of makes him unfit to be President.
