How Is Obama Doing?
January 22, 2008 10:26 AM
"Other than not getting much sleep and missing my kids, I'm doing great," Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said this morning on the Tony Gee show when asked "How are you doing?"
Tony Gee: “Seems like you’re getting double-teamed by the Clintons and one of the things that I’ve heard the analysts say was why not send somebody else to go and deal with Bill instead of yourself so you can focus on Hillary. What’s your response to that?"
Obama: "Well you know look, you know, the problem that we’ve got is that we're running not just against Senator Clinton but also a former President, who gets coverage any time he wants. You know there’s no other figures really that are comparable to Bill Clinton. You know, this is a unique situation where you’ve got a former President who is actively campaigning. And it is important for us to stay focused on the issues. But it’s also important for me not to just to allow folks to completely make up stuff about my record. So, we’ve been running a positive campaign throughout the contest. At a certain point, we’ve got to make sure that people are not, you know, saying things that just aren’t true."
Tony Gee: "Right."
Obama: "Regardless of who says it. And you know, so, we haven’t been engaging in any mudslinging in this campaign. And you know ever since we did well in Iowa, there’s been a tendency I think for the Clintons to go after me, which I don’t mind as long as it’s with the facts. And that’s the point we’ve been trying to make over the last couple of days.”

We're in Florida right now looking at the cash-starved GOP...more later.

we've been separated for the last eight years by the worst president in my 60 years of life-- Obama brings new blood into this world of utter separation and will represent it well-- Macain and palin-- and angry old man who would love to have war go on forever-- and let's not forget about Palin-- she's so cute when killing wolves from a helicopter-- nice touch-- she's about as humane as a badger-- my complaint is simple-- the people in this country are angry and and so mislead by religion--# 1 --com on-- what would Jesus do-- stop the war now-- enough is enough -- let's join together as one-- our kids and grand kids deserve a future!!! So-- wake up- we need change!!!
Obama and Biden-- we still have a chance--
Peace and Love

Barack Obama is possibly the scariest man that has ever run for president. what i mean by that is no one knows him.we don't know what he stands for. he will not seperate himself from the hatemongering rascist jeramiah right. he has ties to william ayers, a man that was accused of bombing the pentagon and other places in the 1970's (research it if you don't believe me) also has ties to rezko. the media and his opponets have to be soft on Obama because as soon as you say anything bad about him you are tagged as a rascist and a bigot.

sure hope the rest of the Obama supportsers are brighter than the one who calls him a CONGRESSMAN! hehehe..He is a senator..if thats what u wanna call a man who hios done NOTHING in the senate in 3 yrs..was only there 12 months when he layed groundwork to run for PRESIDENT!
Posted by: Lee | Apr 4, 2008 2:27:58 PM
Ok people get real. This story is just a way to blast someone who worked his way with his bare hands to the top. He is a congressman, mind you, not just some guy off the street. He became a congressmen somehow. He is an honest man. He has made a decent life for himself and his family. How dare you sit there and mock his history. Who are you? and where are you and where have you been? Its funny with all of the scandals and scams in washington that fellow americans still expect politicians to portray this perfection peice. Its just not true and its ridiculous. Whoever wrote this is probably a Hillary Clinton supporter. WELL YOU KNOW WHAT HILLARY LIKES HIM TOO. SHE MAY NOT LIKE THAT HE IS BEATING HER, BUT SHE LIKES HIM. AMERICA HAS CHANGED! VOTE OBAMA 08!!!

Obama is such whiner! whining about Clinton; but is very OK when you have all of his millionaires or Hollywood celebrities and Oprah filling up the high schools gymnasiums and public arenas for him so he can have big audiences and introducing him like the "ONE" the holier than th, pure politician when many of those introducing him with the exception of Oprah don't really knowing well at all.
He should stop whining and making excuses about everything and instead he should start explaining his plans well and answering questions on his record without been defensive. This is not a celebrity contest for God sake! tho he and his cult of followers really believe it is!
Posted by: Mark | Jan 23, 2008 11:16:51 AM
Those who don't know Obama or Obama record should start learning now that Obama always play the dance with the big guys; he doesn't like to take hard positions and when he take stand for any big bill is when he knows he had a bigger guy next to him so he can have an excuse if something go wrong; that was the way he rose politically in Illinois by being the "boy" and a good team player with the big political guys, never antagonizing them, making deals behind doors with republicans and made his way up. The fact is that he was in the Illinois State Senate for many years and he was never a well known figure or well known leader of the Democratic party, we got to know him after his famous speech at the Democratic convention; but know he and his campaign are trying to sale a much different Obama elsewehre of Illinois.
Finally now is when his political monuvers, calculated steps and back doors deals, double standards, political associations, fund risings, etc are starting to come up and the rest of the c outrny will have a chance to know the real Obama

those who vote for Hillary are re-electing a former president. Hillary will be there as the British Queen while Bill does the staff as Gordon Brown.

Isn't there an Ethics Committee within the Democratic party? What the Clintons are doing is unethical, missrepresenting the truth and stating their opinions as facts what uninformed/simple people believe. That is why Americans should inform themselves and then use their own judgement. By the way, no matter what you hear from the presidential candidates,Clinton's formidable health care system, for example, DO NOT BELIEVE SHE CAN DO IT ON HER OWN, SHE NEEDS CONGRESS TO PASS ANY LAWS(and she failed once already). If Clinton says she'll have universal insurance over her dead body, that's what will probably happen if we get a Republican congress. America is no dictatorship unless H. Clinton wants to become the female version of Hugo Chavez. So, please, do not believe empty promises. Obama's plans have a 90% more chance to become real because he also appeals to Republicans: the Executive & Legislative power working together, that is what America needs, think about it...

Geevil,
OMG! Please listen to yourself. If you don't agree with a bill then vote against it!!! Have a backbone and stand for something. Your explanation sounds like an Obama speach; a lot crap about nothing!!!
Posted by: DeAnn | Jan 22, 2008 6:45:25 PM
Geevil:
Clearly oblivious about legislative tactics. If you vote no on a bill, you cannot ask to "reconsider the question." If you vote present, you can call it back on the floor later.
Secondly, a law will only be called unconstitutional in the context of a specific case. In this case, a sexual predator who was convicted by a jury of his peers AND lost his appeal. If he challenges the constitutionality of a bill and wins, HE IS SET FREE. Obama was the only legistator with the GUTS to not vote for the bill, because he wasn't afraid of having to face it in a campaign.
Obama's campaign put it best: Obama "isn't going to vote for a bad law because it's good politics."
Leadership. Principles. Savvy. Any questions?

Hey Spock I guess you got to back Willard Romney aka MITT!! now that your boy Phred dropped out.
I guess it was only a matter of time. A man can live on No Doz, Centrum Silver and Red Bull for only so long.
Kinda of ironic since MITT!! and Hillary are equally phoney.

Why won't Barack/Barry repudiate terrorist nations or his racist church? it's always a weak he "disagrees" or is "disappointed". You Obama supporters and your nasty hate filled posts only show who this guy really is.

It's really too bad that first woman running for president cannot do the job all by herself.
...
It makes you wonder whether Bill will also be the "acting president" for Hillary if she wins... In any case, it is a shame that Hillary cannot fight her own presidential campaign without her husband doing her campaigning for her.

Why is not the press pushing for that info about him being a muslim, why is Obama hiding it?
Come on they attacked Romney because of his, but when was the last time a there was was a mormon suicide bomber or war against us!!
No wonder Obama does not wear or salute the Flag of the US, it is because he sworn allegiance to Muhammad!!
Jay - you wrote "the Rezko remark is akin to Obama bringing up Whitewater or Vince Foster." So your saying ignore both Democrats/libs illegal activities!!

Obama needs a new campaign manager to take on some of these Clinton attacks and not let them go unanswered.
I agree with Laura above when she said he SHOULD NOT TAKE THE BAIT. The Clintons are trying to drag him down to their level...the devil incarnate. All they know and want is dirty, slimey, sleezey politics. I sure hope South Carolina and the rest of the nation recognize it before it is too late.
I will do anything I can to keep her from wining...just hope South Carolina helps us out here.

Here's the bottom line: the Clintons KNOW that, up to now, negative campaigning HAS WORKED. It has worked for both parties. The Clintons took it a step further by starting fights, lying, and unleashing personal attacks, then complaining about all the lying and fighting. They have been able to do it with impunity, because, up to now, they have had a mainstream media that has been friendly to them. They are trying it again. They are repeating lies, even after being called on the lies by REPORTERS. They are trying to put Obama on the defensive, because they are vulnerable on so many points--Hillary's lack of authorship on meaningful legislation, refusing to release papers from her White House years, Bill's misdeeds, etc. Before long, they will object to all the fighting, etc, and claim that they are being hounded, to discourage people from calling them on their weaak points. This strategy HAS WORKED--up to now. It is simply up to voters---Democrats only at this point---to say, 'ENOUGH IS ENOUGH'. The Clintons are betting that Democrats--especially core Democrats, like older women, will never turn their backs on them, even when they use those 1992 tactics. All of the posters and reporters in the world can point out what the Clintons are doing, and how cold and calculated it is, but we are spitting in the wind unless core Democrats stop letting them get away with it.

Obama and Hilary sound like two little babies -- Oh me I lost, Oh me a former President is campaigning for his wife! Someone tell Obama that he would be in the same predicament if it was an incumbent president running!!
Do we really want any of these crybabies running the country, I mean come on if the enemy does not agree with hilary shell go cry and say the stress of the country not agreeing with me, or Obama its not fair France and Russia are teaming up against me!!

Laugh at the machine and get on with your honest work. Mobilize the country towards your lofty vision again. It's worth ten thousand spin tactics. The American people will be behind you if you DON'T TAKE THE BAIT.

Where is Obama’s message of change?
He is not brining any change. He plays by the same rules as other politician. Being so narcissist about himself, he missed out that people do want change, but they want it delivered not only in speeches, but in solid solutions.
Where is his “clean” campaign? As soon, as he didn’t win Nevada votes, Obama started to attack Clinton. Obama is very rude to Hillary Clinton. He didn’t even shack her hand at the end of the debate. He couldn’t admit that Hillary did lots good things for African-American community.
No, I don’t trust Obama abit that he is about change. Yesterday debate he didn’t say anything about “Uniting” people, because he was going after African-American votes. He is not united people.
Hillary has my vote!

Why is it that when the Clinton campaign pointed out that they actually won more delegates in Iowa than Edwards, they were ridiculed by the media and got no traction? But when Obama made the same argument following his loss on Saturday in Nevada, it got front-page treatment.
By the way, I don’t recall anyone complaining that Michelle Obama is out there campaigning for her husband.

"Now that he attacked Clinton for working for Walmart, it is ok for the BET guy to mention Obama WAS doing drugs while Hillary was working."
Last time I checked, Walmart was robbing the working man blind - as opposed to what Obama did 30 years ago. Good luck with that argument..lol

I love how everyone is so quick to say the Clintons lie and cheat, when any actual case against them has cleared their name. Give up on this divisiveness and desire to bring them down! And please, tell me how you can defend Obama's voting record. Fact--his method was terrible and did a disservice to the American people; there is not justifcation--it was STRATEGY. Even he admits that, without recognizing how terrible it is to use strategy as a voting method. Finally, the Clintons are merely exposing Obama as an inconsistent candidate, with messages that do not align with his small level of federal public service. He has been playing similar cards in this election.
Posted by: Sarah | Jan 22, 2008 12:05:55 PM
Why are people buying into this Obama game of the Clinton's negative attacks over and over, when both candidates are playing the EXACT same game. Enough about Bill Clinton's role. Enough. Hillary has the virtue, of all the good and bad, that comes with touting her husband, so leave it alone. Each candidate has their supporters, in husband and wives, celebrities, etc. It's a unique case, but give it up. Finally, for all you Hillary bashers, and trust me, there are many. Get over yourself and the media that influences. I support both Hillary and Obama, and will happy for either of them to get the nomination. If you are threatening to vote Republican because Hillary is running, then CHANGE parties. It is the divisiveness of our party, not the Clintons, that would make us loose come November. The Republican bloggers never act as insane as the Democracts. These are two candidates who have similar records. Hillary happens to have more experience. Obama happens to be more optimistic. Align yourself as you may, but stop being so ridiculous.

My concerns with the Cinderella story of Obama is just that no one is perfect and flawless. I am tired of Oprah telling us that his is the most honest person, basically in the world, and that is why we should vote for Obama. I am sorry, but at 38 I have learned everyone has secrets and ghosts in their closet and I can guarantee you that Obama is no different.
I believe that the Cinderella story President Clinton spoke about had nothing to do with Obama being black and everything to do with him being human and ridden with flaws like the rest of us. In today’s society we have a tendency to jump on the racist wagon all too quickly. I’m sorry, but there was absolutely nothing in his statement aimed at race. It is so easy to point fingers and say he was being racists if it benefits the person in question. We are not in Kindergarten, grow up!!!!

“Obama says his ‘present’ votes often come on bills that he believes are unconstitutional. ‘I have tried to not succumb to the temptation of voting on bad laws just because it makes for good politics,’ Obama said.” [AP, 9/9/04]

THEN VOTE NO.

Obama showed necessary strength last night against Hill and Bill. Bill Clinton thinks he's running for president again. Can't Hillary fight her own battles instead of sending out her big mean man?
The Clinton's are disgusting. If Hillary is nominated, it'll take...hmm...5 seconds for the republican opponent to raise her negatives the last 2 points to 51%, and we can all welcome another republican president.

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, I believe that the 130 or so times that Sen. Obama voted "Present" back in the Illinois Senate may end up being his Achilles' heel. Especially since he voted "Present" on a number of abortion measures as part of an admitted strategy he claims was developed by Planned Parenthood to shield Democrats from future Republican attacks. Politicians are elected to represent their constituencies. We expect our representatives to vote "Aye" or "Nay" on our behalf; not voting "Present" as part of some self-serving strategy to avoid future criticism. If you don't like criticism, then you don't belong in the political arena.

To lindsay
"The U.S. is in a mess now - someone with experience is going to have to clean it up!"
Yes - she has lots of experience but not much as an elected official on the job getting things done.
Here experience is from riding along with Bill on the campaign trail and with Bill and in the smoke filled room. She's got the experience on how you knee cap your opponent, how to triangulate and where and when you stick the knife. Have to admit that they are good.
She does not have actual experience at running anything however. If you want experience you ought to look to a governor or a fmr governor (Not MITT!!!!).

No matter how candid Mr. Obama has been or hopeful according to many of you, he still needs to answer things up front. He is excellent in going round and round the issues never really answering things directly. It just seems that he has another personal agenda and it is not unifying all Americans. I am not convinced of that message at all. He seems as he is hiding something. That does not inspire any hope to me at all.

It`s really funny to see those who said Hillary is about experience and Obama is all rhetoric. The clintons spend their life lying and cheating and they’re very good at it because they do not have a single drop of scruple. One is playing the uniter among blacks while the other sends his surrogates to first: make white people think that Obama is playing the race card by pulling him down to that vicious brawl with the help the mainstream media and they know that he won’t survive not even by a long shot. This a political harassment strategy that only the Carl Roves and the clintons master that well. So Obama will spend his time defending himself against lies and smears from bill while hilary is putting her policies forward.
Even the way bill clinton humiliated his family and the whole country by lying in front of the press with the Lewinsky affair and has the nerves to come forward to call somebody else’s situation a fairy tale is beyond comprehension.
I have question for every honest American on this blog.
What would you do if you wife has caught cheating on her and the whole neighborhood knows about it and you know that everybody is aware of it?
What would you do?
That whole clinton situation makes me sick

I really do not understand why the media is so soft on this guy! Hillary is right, the Republicans are not going to be soft with him and Americans need a President who can stand to be challenged and be able to give specific answers.
Hope and dreams - great, but that's not going to fly against the republicans. The President needs to inspire hope, but with more than just words. How about a plan? How about experience. The U.S. is in a mess now - someone with experience is going to have to clean it up!
