Huckabee Is TCB

January 09, 2008 7:24 PM

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is playing bass guitar with a local band, jamming out to Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Takin' Care of Business."

"How's South Carolina tonight?" Huckabee asks, when the song comes to its merciful conclusion.

"I think you guys must have thought I was going to bring Chuck Norris here tonight," he jokes, looking at the overflow crowd at the Younts Conference Center at Furman University.

Soon, he tells a joke about a Texas congressional candidate who stumbles upon a hanging.

Then he turns serious.

"This campaign has become far more than a campaign, it's become a cause," he says, "a cause about the American people taking back their country."

He draws cheers when he mentions that the latest national Gallup Poll has him five points ahead in first place.

Earlier today, Huckabee visited a Crisis Pregnancy Center, where women are counseled not to get abortions, even if the pregnancies are a result of rape or incest. The women are put in touch with adoption agencies, if need be. If they decide to have an abortion, they're prayed for. The center provides post-abortion counseling, as well.

"What this center represents is being for life, and not just against abortion," Huckabee told visitors at the cramped offices in a strip mall on Metro Drive. "Over 100 children every year are going to have life because of this place."

Huckabee's idea that he is THE Christian Candidate sickens me. EVERY candidate is a Christian. EVERY candidate believes the Bible to be the word of God. Huckabee's religiosity is SO PHONY! He reminds me of a charlatan, a seller of snake oil. I am amazed that so many don't see through him!

Any life saved is valuable regardless of government social programs funding! There are many adoptive families waiting who would gladly welcome a child into their family.

Chuck: In response to your question as to why a presidential candidate is only concerned with the unborn / and not concerned with them after birth, I would invite you to google Huckabees comments on abortion. Just about every time he speaks on abortion, he also speaks about the need to appreciate Life at ALL stages.

He is the only candidate for president that I have ever heard speak about "All Stages of life".

If indeed "Over 100 children every year are going to have life because of this place," as Gov. Huckabee asserts, how about him dicussing the quality of that life afterward? It's quite ironic that anti-abortion candidates are doggedly insistent on protecting the lives of "the unborn," but don't seem to care much about their lives--and the impact on society--after they're born. It seems the anti-abortionists are the first to eliminate funding for vital social services for unwed mothers, to cut back education funding, to eliminate job programs, and, in general, to make the lives of the babies they save living nightmares.

If a candidate can not stand up for life, how can I think that he cares about me? Governor Huckabee is the only pro-life candidate except Congressman Paul. Senator McCain wants to kill unborn babies for their stem cells. Governor Romney signed a bill to kill an unborn baby for a $50 co-pay. Senator Thompson believes abortion is a state issue, much like the South thought about slavery. Thanks.
