Huckabee: Thompson 'Needs Some Metamucil'

January 12, 2008 11:24 AM

On MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Friday, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was asked about the fact that former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson repeatedly attacked him at Thursday night's debate.

"I think Fred needs some Metamucil, I think it would help a lot," Huckabee joked. "He was in a bad mood last night."

According to the manufacturer, Metamucil capsules "contain psyllium husk, a natural dietary fiber originating from the psyllium plant, which relieves constipation and can lower blood cholesterol levels."

This was not a comment received warmly by the Thompson campaign.

At an event Friday night at the Sticky Fingers Rib House in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Thompson called the comments "eighth-grade kind of potty humor kind of stuff," reports ABC News' Christine Byun, traveling on that Fred-riffic campaign.

ABC News' Hucka-off-air-reporter Kevin Chupka reports that, asked to explain himself, Huckabee told reporters, "It just seemed like he was very uncomfortable and unhappy last night...I really do believe that if people can’t have some kind of sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to become so locked down and consultant driven and their campaigns become so boring because all they’re gonna do is give this robotic answer to everything that is so scripted."

Well, Thompson could've said something against Huckabee in the previous several debates, but he didn't. Huckabee hasn't changed his position on anything. So why did Thompson particularly woke up at the last debate and scolded Huckabee that harshly, for nothing? Obviously it's been talked about and decided that he should attack Huckabee, most likely to help out his pal McCain, for obviously Thompson knows very well that he simply DON'T HAVE A CHANCE to win nomination, let alone general election. So he's really being taught by someone else to launch the attack. And being an actor, obviously he knows how to act very well. Act like it's real. Just answer why he didn't launch the attack before! What a shame!

Absolutely.

We shouldn't consider the Huckster's running platform as a serious matter to be scrutinized and announced for the liberal ideology that it is, after all, it's merely the presidency that we're talking about here.

Famous for his appropriate humor, how could Fred fail to see the absolute joke of the Huckster's candidacy on the republican ticket?? I know I'm still laughing about it.

Running for President of the United States is an extremely serious matter. But that shouldn't preclude the candidates from having a sense of humor. Some of the candidates do need to lighten up a bit.
