Only if you love blue cheese
January 23, 2008 4:25 PM
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell endorsed Hillary Clinton today
-- pretty big news.
Influential Governor, important state.
Here's an old-school story
about "Fast Eddie" from back in 2001.
My favorite part:
In a restaurant just blocks from City Hall last Wednesday night, as Rendell sits down to talk about his brief tenure at the DNC and his pending race for the Pennsylvania governor's mansion, he stops to listen to the list of dressings that the Capitol Grill provides for its garden salad.
"Parmesan vinaigrette," says the waiter, Alex Tran.
"Sucks," says Rendell.
"Mango lime vinaigrette," Tran offers.
"Terrible," says Rendell.
"Blue cheese."
"Only if you love blue cheese," says the former mayor.
"Caesar," says the waiter.
"Eh," says Rendell.
"Warm bacon dressing," Tran finally suggests.
"Only with the spinach," Rendell says. In the end, he precedes his porterhouse with shrimp cocktail. He downs the steak ravenously. He has an appetite.
Good times.
I'm at the ABC News Boca Raton bureau right now -- Oceans 234 Oceanfront Grill -- drinking iced teas and waiting for my live shot. We have a good story for you tonight on World News with Charles Gibson -- hope you'll tune in.
I love the Iowa caucus and of course the New Hampshire primary (having gone to college in the Granite State), but I'll tell ya, this Florida primary has its advantages

But I like blue cheese! Great report on the Florida primary, too, Jake! I'm sure one of those advantages to which you refer is to walk barefoot on a warm Florida beach while you're creating a unique visual aid--the US map--in the sand. (This is pure envy--it's currently 2° above zero here in chilly Chicago.)
The best part of your report, though, was what Charlie Gibson said afterward about your being in Florida, drawing lines in the sand. A witty one-liner! My kudos to Mr. Gibson, too!
