The Huckaburger
January 07, 2008 12:46 PM
CONCORD, NH -- At the Barley House Restaurant and Tavern today, a new item is being offered: an herb-seared bison patty with baby spinach, on a whole-wheat English muffin, with a deep-fried pickle on the side.
The Huckaburger.
Named after former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, the lunch item retails for $8.95.
"It's lean, it's mean, it's healthy," said Huckabee as he made his way through the crowded tavern.
Upon spotting this reporter, he said, "Try a Huckaburger! It's good!"
When Huckabee ate here earlier this year, he did so alone. As in, by himself.
Now the crowds and media swarm around him. He autographs baseballs. Fathers introduce him to their children. Standing room only. Crowds amassed outside, hoping for a peek.
Also on the menu today, the Red State Burger (a beet and jasmine rice patty), a Bleu State Burger (a bleu cheese-stuffed beef patty), the Undecided (a pretzel-crusted striped bass) and, in honor of Huckabooster and martial arts star Chuck Norris, "Roundhouse Kick Chilli."
The Huckaburger will be taken off the menu tomorrow.

Huckabee seems to be making an impression today on bloggers. I just read
On Sunday, The St. Petersburg Times ran an editorial taking Mr. Huckabee to task for opposing legislation in Arkansas while governor that contained the phrase “act of God.” As a fundamentalist Baptist preacher, he could not abide the idea of blaming God for anything, let alone a tornado, hurricane or other calamity of nature. The language was changed to accomodate the Governor’s tender sensibilities on the matter.
Mike Huckabee is the last candidate I’d want to see elected President of the USA, but he was right to oppose the legal language “act of God” to describe natural disasters. Even if there is a god, for which I have not found any compelling or other evidence, it could not be shown that he/she or it “did Katrina” or the Arkansas tornado in March 1997 which prompted the bill in question. “Natural causes” works for believers in godly mischief and others like myself who realize that “*^%$#* happens.” Nothing personal — nature is just another word for “reality” experienced atop a big rock with a huge fire in the middle that, as the Monty Python folks noted musically in “The Galaxy Song,” is “evolving and revolving at nine hundred miles an hour, that’s orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it’s reckoned, a sun (not God) that is the source of all our power.”

Rik Flair gave a toehold in Iowa for Huckabee and his sidekick Chuck Norris. Now, Huckabee's plan is to get his pickle fried in New Hampshire.

Michael Huckabee is a populist social conformitarian who sees government power and resources as the answer to every problem he defines. He is the U.S. Juan Peron. If we are really unlucky, it will end up him versus the Democratic Evita.

I was there and could not get inside for a Huckaburger because the crowd was so huge. There is a real national surge for Governor Huckabee. He is rising in polls throughout America with his message of positive change. I like Mike.

The Huckaburger will sell like Huckcakes all around America. People just can't get enough of this national presidential celebrity!
Huge groups of people have already started a new American langugage called Huckabese.
Music groups all over America are going wild with Huckabee as their presidential hero! Music groups have already started a new group called the Hucktunes.
Huckabee is creating a Huckaboom in America. Americans are really Hucky to have Huckabee running for president.
GO VOTE HUCKABEE, otherwise he will send Chuck Norris after you!

Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” for 2007:
6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.

They should also have a "Mike Vickaburger" in honor of Mike Huckabee and his son's cruelty and indifference towards animals.

Boy the Huckaburger sounds pretty good. The Red State Burger sounds gross.
For those of you looking into Mike, here is an interesting conversation I had when I met someone from Arkansas (I live in Washington state, far from Arkansas).
I asked:
"Since you lived in Arkansas when he was governor, what are your thoughts on Mike as a "tax hiker"? I have gotten the impression that most people in Arkansas were pretty supportive of Mike's fiscal decisions. Is that true?"
Here is their reply:
"Hey, sorry so long on the reply. I was very supportive of Gov. Huckabee's fiscal policies. The media has created the impression that Mike just came in, ran up a huge tab, and sent us Arkansans the bill and this is simply not the case. The voters decided in the polls on many of the issues they speak of involving taxes. The best example is the gasoline tax which passed with flying colors. Our highways were in the worst shape of any state in the country and the people of Arkansas were fed up with the impotence of previous policy makers regarding the importance of healthy infrastructure. We overwhelmingly embraced Gov. Huckabee's ideas and, as a result, now have the most improved roads in the country.
Gov. Huckabee changed the face of education in Arkansas, causing it to save Arkansas tax payers millions. Reforms put in place by Mike made Arkansas public schools much more economically efficient, while at the same time pumping up the arts, which I belive will end the "ignorant Arkansan" stereotype in time. No previous governor in Arkansas was bold enough to accept the inevitable challenge of fixing Arkansas education. Gov. Huckabee handled it with grace, wisdom, and, ultimately, success.
Gov. Huckabee's health reforms in the state took Arkansans from among the most unhealthy in the country to a trend of setting examples of healthy lifestyles. His Arkids First program is a sort of "no child left behind" policy in health care that has and is experiencing marvelous success.
The list goes on and on. Many in my state feel that Gov. Huckabee has been the best thing to happen to Arkansas in recent, or maybe even not so recent memory. And that is saying something when referencing a republican in a state that is 99.9% Clinton-built democrat."
Of course this is just one person, but it works for me.
