'Walker' Says McCain Needs a Walker

January 20, 2008 11:14 PM

Chuck Norris, star of "Walker, Texas Ranger," endorser of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and fellow born-again believer, says that Huck's rival, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is too old for the job of president.

Per ABC News' Kevin Chupka, Norris today said that McCain, whom he's known for 20 years, is a little long in the tooth for the job. "Look at George W, look how he’s aged in 7 years.  He’s aged 3 to 1 in 7 years; Bill Clinton, he aged 3 to 1; former President Bush, who I was with a lot -– I saw him age in those four years.  Now, I’m thinking if John takes over the presidency at 72, and if he ages 3 to 1, how old will he be in four years? He’ll be 84 years old.  Can he handle that kind of pressure in that job?  And so, that’s why I didn’t pick John to support, because I was just afraid that the vice president would wind up taking over his job within that four-year presidency."

Norris went on, saying "we need to find someone who can handle it over the four years, or eight years, or whatever it may be, that has the youth and the energy, the vision and the communication skills, to make that work."

When Huckabee was asked if McCain is too old to be president, he said, "Ya know, only John McCain and his hairdresser knows for sure.  I think he’s got a lot of vigor.  I think John is a very capable man.  I think what Chuck’s point is, is it is a very stressful position."

What say you?

huckabee reminds me of this character in the film adaptation of stephen kings'"the dead zone", a folksy, plain talk'n politician with an itchy "armageddon finger"- a spot on portrayal by actor martin sheen btw.life imitating art ?

Why is McCain running on the Republican side anyhow, in that matter why is Huckabee? McCain joined sides against the Republicans every chance he could in the past 20 years, he voted for cutting our military, he pushed thru an uncinstitutional bill McCain/Feingold, And he is for Amnesty still!! He even said it in a debate! When he was asked does he still want to pass his bill (which was amnesty) he said sure! also did he not call 80% of Americans Bigots? since that was the percentage against his bill. a Vote for McCain is a vote for a Lib!

Now Huckabee, taxes and spends like a Lib! Supports Amnesty!

These two do not deserve the support of Republicans!!

Chuck Norris? Is this guy now a medical doctor, campaign adviser, sage? How could this B-grade entertainer be an asset to anyone's campaign, except for the NASCAR crowd (sorry for the stereotyping), whose votes Huckabee hopes to garner? And what kind of political credibility does martial arts guy Chuck Norris have with experience from play-acting kicking people around in Hollywood and from advertising exercise machines? The statement shows little political savvy, that's for sure--whether his assessment about McCain might prove correct or not.

I am a landscaper for a very wealthy gentleman in Orange County, California. He has 5 acres of land and a large house and several fine cars. He told me he made most of his money in the stock market. recently he told me he recently pulled most of his money out of the market because we were headed for a large stock market correction. It appears he was correct. He said he sold almost every stock he owned except for one company called AVASOFT (AVAF)

He told me to put some of my money in this company, helped me open up a stock account and so far it is doing great. Maybe one day I can attain great wealth such as the gentleman I work for...

I had the same impression as Norris the last time I saw McCain on TV. He was disembarking from a plane with his wife beside him and it appeared she was steadying him so he wouldn't fall. I'm also concerned about his facial cancer.
He's an anachronism, not only physically, but in his thinking. I'm not stating this opinion because I'm for Huckabee; my concern is for the future of our country in the crucial years ahead.

John McCain's wisdom and experience is ageless and priceless. No person knows the year, day or time of death. Can Morris advise you about the time and date of the return his and Huckabee's Lord?

Chuck Morris's comments are a form of foolish fiction and represents the silly monologue of most stand up entertainers. He should not assume the voting audience welcomes his opinion.

Considering the appearance and the longevity genes of John's mother, who looks half the age of my 98 year old mother, I think you scaredy-cats would be better off with astrology (as Nancy Reagan used) than with Chuck Morris.

Reagan was 70 when he became President. If you watched the debates all the republican candidates are Reagan wantabes. Age is not a problem.

McCain's age can be made an issue, as the losers tried to make it one for Reagan. If he gets the GOP nomination, there will be tougher people than Chuck Norris bringing it up. Better to deal with it now. But you know, Romney has to deal with people who are worried about his Mormon support. Clinton has to deal with women voting for her just because she's female--there may be a backlash against her because of that. Ditto for Obama because he's black. Giuliani is Catholic, and some people still think there is a Catholic voting bloc, and that he would be beholden to the Vatican. Huckabee can be put down because his good showings have come from overwhelming evangelical support. Ron Paul is old, too, and portrayed as a kook fringe candidate by his opponents. The only major candidate left in either party without an 'identity' crisis--a slam that can be levelled against him because of his identity--is Edwards--and look how well he is doing these days....NOT!!! McCain's age isn't as big a problem for him as his less-than-conservative image among regular Republicans. Let's get the age thing, the gender thing, the religion thing, the race thing, etc., behind us, and move on to support someone who we feel can fix what's ailing the country.

Anti-democratic candidates like The Huckster who believe the American people should burn the Constitution and replace it with the Bible obviously are threatened by an American Hero. A hero who gave 7 years of his life in hell for his country. What has the Huckster ever done for his country except inflame the ingnorant Christian mob. He is more like Caligula than Peter. Americans beware.

Sir Winston Churchill began his second term as Prime Minister of Great Britain at the age of 77. I don't think McCain's comparatively young age of 71 should be a factor.

John McCain has my vote.
Chuck Norris has a point too.

I am from Arkansas and am alos a big fan of Huckabee. I think he is a smart guy.

I was really hoping for a Mccain- Huckabee ticket, but with this comment through mouth of Chuck, Huckabee has hit Mccain where it hurts the most. So, I doubt, that he will be invited by McCain as VP nominee.

I was actually considering Huckabee prior to this stupid move. The best thing he could have said in response is "that was Norris' opinion and there is no connection between his thinking and mine on this issue," unless of course that it wasn't. Since he answered the way he did, Huckabee is out of my consideration set. Let's let actors stick to acting. Oh, wait, I get it . . . Norris can't act.

Posted by: Chuck | Jan 21, 2008 12:43:11 PM

yes, i also think McCain is too old..we need a change and he is not that change.

I do think that McCain's age is a legitimate question. Anyone who thinks it isn't, talk to a few dozen 75 year olds and tell me they have the mental and physical fitness of a 45 year old. McCain is fit and alert for his age, but he will still be quite an old Pres. Now I do admit, that somehow seeing Chuck Norris raise the issue bothers me.

The process has devolved into absurdity.

NO MCAMNISTY FOR ME! I live in Southern California and John McAmnisty wants to give our country away like Presidente Jorge Bush is doing. I want the border shut tight and the mexicans rounded up and put back in their own country. My neighborhood has gang tagging, the schools can't give away free lunches and breakfasts fast enough. "push 1 for English" is now the norm... I want my country back! The demoncrats, McAmnesty and his shamnisty pal Lindsey Ghramnisty sure won't get my vote. I would rather vote for a demoncrat, let them screw things up for four years, and then try again with a REAL conservative. I want an angry white man to step up and TAKE MY COUNTRY BACK! Maybe Lou Dobbs will run.

Well, that is just classic. Chuck Norris, a guy who made his millions pretending to be tough, cuts on John McCain, who was shot down defending his country and survived years in a Communist prison. Chuck Norris isn't tough enough to play John McCain in the Movie of the Week.

I would never vote for McCain, but Chuck Norris is a third-rate Clint Eastwood whose political pronouncements should carry exactly zero weight.

And Huckabee is the slimiest gob of sputum to ever come out of the South. He gets Norris to do his tough talking, saying things a candidate can't say, then smiles and rolls his eyes when someone questions it. A real straight shooter, the Huckster.

Ok, no more Clinton in the office-us tax payers are still paying for the Lewinsky affair. McCain may be old, but guess what-he's been a Senator for a long time and has a lot of experience in the White House. He's the best Republican choice. Obama, Romney & Huckabee-great ideas, lack of experience won't get you in the White House. I'm hoping the Bush administration doesn't screw us with this tax proposal-we're in a recession, clean this crap up!
