Wide Open

January 16, 2008 10:01 AM

Good morning from Columbia, SC!

With Mitt Romney's victory last night in Michigan, the GOP race is truly wide open, boggling the mind. Huckabee wins Iowa, McCain wins New Hampshire, Romney Michigan. As John Dickerson of Slate puts it -- "The GOP primary is starting to look like a Pee Wee soccer tournament: Everyone gets a trophy!"

Last night's Democratic debate had some interesting moments. Obama and Clinton did what they could to quiet down the race talk. My favorite moment of the debate was this (paraphrased by me):

Tim Russert: What's your biggest fault?

Obama: I lose papers. But don't think that will mean anything.

Clinton: It means something -- it means he can't be trusted to run the country! My biggest fault is I am too impatient in my desire to bring about change.

Edwards: I care too much about people. That's my biggest fault. God, I care about them. Truly.

Obama: Can I just say -- the papers thing … that doesn't mean anything, it's just papers.

Clinton: (Coughing: ITMEANSSOMETHING)

To cleanse your palate --

Defamer has a Tom Cruise Scientology video that's worth taking a look at. (It looks like outtakes from Magnolia.) They've condensed the video into the top five "creeptastic" moments. Watch it HERE.

More later --

Hillary Clinton's response to Barack Obama saying, "I lose papers. But don't think that will mean anything," is a bit ironic. "...it means he can't be trusted to run the country!..." Yet I recall Hillary having subpoenaed billing records that were missing for a couple of years. At least they did eventually turn up right outside her private office there in the White House!

John Edwards could have had a classic moment (ala Ronald Reagan), but he blew it. Talking about Clinton and Obama he said, "...they both asked not to be considered on their gender or their race..." He should have followed up with, "So I won't hold it against Obama for being male and Clinton for being white."

Oh, my! Can't we just start over with different players in this tawdry melodrama?

I agree with Mike. It was another very pat, contrived answer from Hillary. Obama treated the question sincerely. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but just more Clintonian parsing.

oh I think Clinton nailed that one. Edwards' response was contrived. By contrast, Obama's response was authentic, but politically stupid. Seriously, dude, I want the guy who's running the country to be attentive to detail. But that's just me. Clinton's response seemed genuine and harkened back to that interview in which Gingrich's mom called Hillary Clinton a bitch. She has that reputation - she might as well own it and turn it into a virtue. She loses it when those around her can't keep up with her.

With an Edwards win in Nevada on Saturday, the Democrats race will also be "truly wide open". It will be good for the country.

Snooze Feast 08'

Come on when are the Libs going to be asked a tough question - Like WHAT DO THEY MEAN BY CHANGE? since all they say is Change!
But a person who knows them knows they mean Socialism!!
Another thing to note is there squashing of speech by not letting Kucinich in the Debate, he is on the ballot!! Are they afraid of something.
What do you think they will do to your Freedom of speech if you slightly disagree with any of the 3 Stalinists!! Gulag anybody!

Funny thing here your attacking the Republican Party for its different winners, but two things on that,
1 - IT IS THE SAME ON THE DEMS SIDE, each has a state!!
2 - This is what the primary is all about!

Just because this is the first election is a long long time where no incumbent or VP is running this is happening! on bith sides.

The interesting part is why is 2.5 libs running on the Republican side instead of the Dems side! The libs are Huckabee,McCain and Ron Paul is the .5

Potential President Obama -"Gee, where did I put those nuclear codes again?"

FRIGHTENING!

Everyone gets a trophy except Rudy.

That debate moment was very telling. Only Obama tried to honestly answer the question and of course he got attacked for it.
