Colbert Conan & Stewart Fight Over Huckabee
February 07, 2008 4:40 PM
Political Punch Deputy Managing Editor Lauren Effron notes that on Monday the on-going feud between Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien got nasty -- each claiming responsibility for the Iowa victory of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
You can watch it HERE
"I'm next door taping my show," Stewart said to Colbert, "and I hear you say once again that you created Mike Huckabee. Now I don't mean to keep bringing this up, but I can't not let that rest. I obviously, we talked about this. You said that you created Huckabee, Conan created you, I created Conan…Therefore, I created Huckabee and by the transitive property by which you described earlier, I am McCain, and therefore, I should say descending McCain…"
(Conan walks on, crowd cheers)
O'BRIEN: Unbelievable!
STEWART: Can I, may I ask a question?
O'BRIEN: No you may not!
STEWART: Just one question, sir!
O'BRIEN: Yes, yes, yes, please!
STEWART: Is he, is he standing on an apple box or am I truly…
COLBERT: you're very small…yes, Conan…
O'BRIEN: I have told you once, I have told you twice, I have made this clear on my show, a network show (laughs cruelly), I have made it quite clear that this was not to be discussed again. That you were not to mention this anymore…
COLBERT: OR…
O'BRIEN: Or I would personally…(Stewart shhh's him)…I would personally kick your cable asses. That's what I've come to do!
COLBERT: Come on!
O'BRIEN: YES!
COLBERT: I have not forgotten, I have not forgotten, sir, and I can't wait to get into a cage fight with you sir. Let's do it! Oh, come on! It's go time!
O'BRIEN: oh yeah, oh yeah.
It goes on from there, but you need to watch the brilliance yourself.

Great Caesar's Ghost (with profuse apologies to Perry White)! Haven't the TV/movie writers settled their strike yet so talented performers like these can have something entertaining to say and to do? More importantly, I beleive Shakespeare titled a play about the subject of this fight: "Much Ado About Nothing."

The entire bit- over all three shows- was a great piece of comic improv. I enjoyed the whole thing. Hey, they've all still got to fill time for the writers' strike and it worked very well.
