Conservatives Told Not to Boo McCain
February 07, 2008 11:53 AM
Politico's Anne Schroeder reports that last night a registrant at the Conservative Political Action said of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz: “I hope they boo him out of the room.”
The CPAC registrar expressed alarm and said, “We’ve been instructed to tell participants not to boo McCain.”
Not a good place to start from, when wooing the base.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Conservatives Told Not to Boo McCain:
Fellow Romney supporters, our man has gone down respectfully and with honor. The options are now clear: Mccain is in bed with the Democrats, Hucklebee isn't presidential material & Dr. Paul's constitutional conservatism is backed by 20yrs of integrity. I've recently looked into his platform, and aside from the war, Dr. Paul and Romney are very much the same. You owe it to yourself, especially if you cannot stand the stink of McInsane, to look into this Vietnam Hero.

I am so tired of the hammering of McCain
Is he a hero? Of course, not one man
in ten thousand would turn down release
from a viet cong prison(31 months in solitary) because other US
soldiers who were imprisoned before he was were not to be released! He refused to be a public relations bonanza for the viet cong. Amazing! That alone does not qualify him for the presidency but it is a stunning measure of the man.
He's not a conservative? Ridiculous! The published conservative voting scorecard for
McCain-80% favorable; for Clinton 5%-now I understand why Ann C.jumped to Hillary!!
Yes, McCain voted against some tax cuts in the early 2000's but why, because they were not accompanied
with spending cuts. Since when have
Republicans NOT supported spending cuts
and why would we want to cut taxes
without reducing spending?-we are Republicans, right? The last 4 years have been a financial disaster for this
country and in large measure it is
because the president and congress have
spent money like drunken sailors! Our budgets have not been balanced. The pork barrels are astounding! This country must get to a more conservative
position of eliminating the deficit and
that won't come with a democrat in the nation's highest office-and apparently not with some Republicans either!
The idea that the USA can handle a
democrat at this critical juncture especially when the Republican nominee to be, John McCain, has such a
very strong position on spending control, is absolute nonsense. How can any "true" conservative take that stance??? Obviously that is what a free America allows but is it smart?
Yes, he has reached across the aisle in an attempt to find an answer to a national crisis: immigration. It failed but sadly the issue still is not resolved and the spinoff is dreadful-huge crime rates, medicaid challenges, etc. Folks this may have been a mistake but we had better find a way to gain solutions to this very troubling national problem and whether we like it or not; compromise is going to be the name of the game. We have had nothing but gridlock in Washington for at least 4 years-and that helps no one!
I'm a fifty year republican but I hate some of our postions-no gun control: the crazy notion that everyone should own an uzi and the very old "slippery slope" discussion if we create any limitations(the NRA is a strong lobby); no stem cell research when many disease solutions could be accelerated if a controlled process were allowed; my point is obvious: our tent had better be pretty big or we can join some of the earlier political parties in this country whose views were way too narrow to gain the support necessary to win elections!
Wake up, please.

Leave McCain's kids out of it.
Huck's man enough to go mano o mano with the Old Fellow.
Huck don't need no help. Huck's got the Love, the Compassion, and the Conservatism.
McCain can't match that. Leave the family out of it.
Vote Huck

Eric
The questions was McCain has seven children, most grown, why are they not campaigning or showing support for their father if he is the man you seem to think he is?

I'm a conservative (social, fiscal and foreign policy -- more realist than neo-con, thank you).... With that in mind, please note that I am one of the chorus on the right who will not vote for John McCain this fall. Romney was our last hope at competent leadership. Given the choice between three Democratic Senators -- Obama, Clinton and McCain -- I think Clinton is the most conservative. I don't think I can vote for her or the others. Maybe Bloomberg could come in and at least lead the country competently. I have no confidence in any of the three amigos.

Someone asked about McCain's kids... his 18 year old son is in Iraq right now. if that's not good enough for you then I give up. Go ahead and vote for Hilloma...

You are obviously a Republican. Unfortunately so am I. Even so John Kerry is not just a hero for serving in the armed forces which apparently from all I can find is the only thing other than being in Hanoi Hilton that gives John McCain the right to be called a hero but because he put his own life in danger to save his men. This was substantiated by those same men. The only labeling John McCain a hero that was there is John McCain. I know several people including my father who served in the wars and some who were prisoners of war but none like John McCain. Read the article. Where are McCain's children? The children of Mitt Romney, George W. Bush, Dick Chaney, Al Gore, John Kerry and most of the other candidates over the years are proud to support their fathers whether we agree with their stand or not their children support them. If John McCain's bio is even remotely true, it is obvious they know the kind of man he is.

For anyone to question whether or not McCain is a war hero is absurd. Why is he a hero? Because he was offered release as his father and grandfather were admirals --and he turned it down as he knew it would be used by the enemy as propaganda to demoralize others being held captive. Because he understood the political ramifications of his release, he spent 5 years in that hell hole. I'd like to think I love my country and would sacrifice for it -- but I doubt I'd turn down being released. John McCain, you're a better man than most of us are. And shame on those who question his heroism. He's no John Kerry, who spat on his country's uniform after returning. He has spent his life fighting for his country ever since

The meaning of hero is "a person noted for courageous action". Who decided John McCain fit the definition is beyond me. Because he served in the war did not make him a hero. Yes people in combat whether taking courageous action and risking their lives to save others or working in the motor pool behind the lines are indeed to be commended but the normal connatation of hero is someone who went above and beyond. I have yet to read any such commendation of McCain. He has done nothing to stand out other than spending his time trying to gain power through blowing his own horn. It is horrible to think that he or any other American is in a war or especially in a prisoner of war camp but this does not necessarily make them good candidates for President. If you read this website it does not make him sound at all capable of leading America. In 2004 he was ready to run with a Democrat. Now he has Democrats supporting his campaign. He was not the material a leader was made of in the Navy (according to his record), he was not much of a family man when his first wife was ill (left her for a young, richer, healthier model) and seems to only be out for himself still. I often read this website and I have never seen any so negative except McCain's. Even taking it with a grain of salt this is still not the kind of man I would want for President!

When people say "what democrat would defend your liberty" as if they actually believe their own rhetoric, we know our country has serious problems. What an incredibly unnecessary and insulting thing to say.

I suggest we all calm down and see what develops. When we got the Clintons in the White House the last time we all paid for it. They were not and are still not presidential material. The Democratic party is now the Socialist Democratic Party. If you want more socialism and a lower standard of living, no matter what, stay at home on election day. You will have a pyrrhic victory. Also known as biting off your nose to save your face. There is a lesser of two evils and we better get on the ball to elect to congress those principled people who are truly conservative.

The Commander Guy, we disagree on many issues, but I'm really starting to come around to you. Keep up the good conservative stuff. Seriously.

As a life long Republican, I can not and will not vote for McCain. I have held off on donations to the Party this year and it looks like I'll give my church an extra $10,000 this year. McCain in unreliable and undependable and as much as I hate Hitlery-maybe she'll make 2012 a good year. Of course we will get a couple on new (and young) Sepreme Court judges from her that we'll have to live with for the next 20 years. But then, if Trader John wins, Teddy will help him pick the same people anyway

uh oh, alert the Mccain campaign, spock is on board. Let's hope spock has the same magic touch with McCain that he had with Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney. Keep that finger right on the pulse, spock!

It is so nice to see that the Bush/Cheney regime has done such a great job of making American people afraid.
A few points, The War in Iraq has made the world more dangerous, not safer. There are now more terrorists since the invasion than before. There are now terrorists thriving in Iraq where there not before. There was no evidence at all that Iraq supported islamic terrorism and did in fact suppress radical islamic mullahs. Afghanistan is falling back under the control the Taliban, poppy production is at an all time high to finance their activities and there can be no question that our President prioritized capturing Saddam (who while a bad guy, was not an immediate threat to US interests)over Bin Laden who was directly responsible for 9/11 and continues to this day to be a direct threat to US interests.
McCain is Bush 2.5.

I am a social and fiscal conservative. I believe we should help the weak among us, but you don't do that by forcing them to depend on the government and you don't do that by giving them everything. I also believe, as did the forefathers that our government has a very limited scope and as our country has gotten older many in our country have lost that.
I am a conservative who will not vote at all if McCain is the nominee and I certainly wouldn't vote for socialism with Clinton/Obama just because McCain is the nominee.
McCain is completely undeserving of the office and 1 example, more than any other, makes it very clear; After McCain, along with his liberal buddies, tried to sneak amnesty through Congress without we, the people knowing about it he ATTACKED the American people for not taking his side and seeing the wisdom of once again offering millions of people who broke our laws citizenship despite the overwhelming opposition by the American people. He was wrong and he arrogantly attacked US because he was wrong.

dano - Are you talking about the Democrats that fought on the side of the south during the civil war?
People this is a primary, Conservatives will vote for McCain because we do not want a Marxist Government that Obama or Hilary will bring.

Dirty Harry: Let me answer your question which asked, "What democrat would defend your liberty?" The answer can be found in the hundreds of thousands of graves of the democrat soldiers who died defending your right to ask your insipid question.

Maybe the CPAC is one of those ultra-right-wing organizations whose membership will vote for Hillary or Barack if McCain is the nominee, taking their cue from their idols Rush and Ann?

McCain gets my vote. He is a war hero on top of all other things. What democrat would defend your liberty.
