What is it with some people? You talk about lack of experience in Mr. Obama, what has Mrs. Clinton done to give her the more experienced label. I beleive it's time for a new vision for America, one that unifies not divide.

I thank God for a person that is into God and is willing to lead the county for all people. With God on his side how can he lose. It's What God wants not what people want. God will protect and keep his own. The best guidance you can get it from the almighty.

You mean political candidates have speechwriters and advisors who suggest lines to use to deflect attacks?? And that Obama and Patrick share David Axelrod as their campaign managers?
Wow. I'm shocked...
And wondering why, given their high-priced teams of consultants and writers, Bush still isn't able to speak and Clinton still isn't able to inspire.

There are no friends when you are
running for any position as important
as the President of the United States of
America.
There is no problem quoting others before you so long as you make sure that
it is made evident that that is the fact.
However, trying to pass them off as being your own is Plagerism out and out!
But then this is the way one person runs
his campaign because he cannot come up
with any worthwhite speeches of his own.
I truly hope the American people can
set aside the flowery, speech making
versus the hard core factual issues
of others and how they are prepared to
tackle these issues should they become
successful in their bid for the highest
position in the land***honestly!!!!!

p.s. I wonder how common this sort of thing is - the reusing of old speeches without sourcing the author.
Posted by: Brooke | Feb 20, 2008 3:40:53 AM
thank you.
Posted by: Brooke | Feb 20, 2008 3:38:50 AM
Dude, Let it go already. It's had its news cycle. We know that Obama and Patrick use similar rhetoric. Can you report on something else?
Posted by: drill | Feb 19, 2008 10:21:33 PM
Are the young and educated brillant minds upset they were played for fools by Obama and Axelrod? Yes they are.
Posted by: geevill | Feb 19, 2008 9:14:12 PM
I remember this one time Barack Obama, like, said he liked Democracy when Hillary Clinton said, like, in January that she liked Democracy and Barack Obama is nothing but a copy-cat and he's never ever done anything else in his entire life it's like that one time Hillary copied George Bush and voted in favor of invading Iraq oh wait. Nevermind.
Posted by: JK | Feb 19, 2008 8:57:03 PM
but see, Hillary is the one we would expect to do this. it dissapoints people that Obama ben lyin. easy solution. Vote McCain 08
Posted by: Kitty | Feb 19, 2008 8:33:04 PM
I suspect what happened is that they both used lines which they learned during private meetings with David Axelrod.
Posted by: Creamy Goodness | Feb 19, 2008 7:40:27 PM
He's not Brittney Spears, Obama is the Milli Vanilli of politics.

Ralph Simpson writes "write on issues affecting the American people."
Sadly, this will be the issue that will affect the American people if someday we found that the country was in fact run by David Axelrod.

Barack and Michele Obama are a joke, I am tired of watching them on TV, I don't watch TV anymore.
Please go away
Posted by: Pat | Feb 19, 2008 5:52:15 PM
Maybe we should nominate David Axelrod for president since he seems to be the true wordsmith. And he seems pretty adept at selling hope.
Posted by: axelrod | Feb 19, 2008 5:37:13 PM
FACT: Obama's worst speeches are more original, have greater authority, are more persuasive and have more truth than Hillary's best.
Posted by: Howard B. | Feb 19, 2008 5:36:05 PM
To the "all hat, no cattle" poster:
When Hillary used the "all hat, no cattle" line, she first said, "there is a saying in texas." This is called attribution, a word that Obama should become acquainted with in the future.
Posted by: allhat | Feb 19, 2008 5:33:10 PM
I know this is pretty complex and difficult for some people to grasp, but they have the same campaign manager, and some of the same speechwriters.
It is not plagarism if you use lines from your speechwriter. ALL POLITICIANS DO THIS!!! I guess they all plagarise.
Posted by: ryaple | Feb 19, 2008 5:32:51 PM
@Liz:
Then I hope you are not voting for Hillary either, she's just as guilty.
Posted by: Mo | Feb 19, 2008 5:29:21 PM
Um, why is this still being considered news? Obama and Deval are friends AND share the same political strategist. In addition, ALL the candidates use speech writers. And why is it OK for Hillary to "plagiarize" Obama and Deval and Edwards?
Posted by: sophia | Feb 19, 2008 5:28:39 PM
Now I have to ban my kids reading the political blogs.
First, drug using is OK, then plagiarism is no big deal. None of these will stop you becoming the president. But I will not want my kids having anything to do with any of these.
I wonder if Obama's kids will do drugs and plagiarising someday, after witnessing their dad doing so well in the presidential campaign in spite of all these activities.
Posted by: Liz | Feb 19, 2008 5:27:24 PM
Hillary also reused Jimmy Carter's "I see an America" anaphora. She lifted "Si se puede" from none other than Hugo Chavez. Who knows how much she got from Bill and how much Bill got from her. She has reused other phrases to her advantage without attribution. Obama reused words from a close political ally, who gave permission. And he even did attribute at least once to Patrick.
FDR didn't even make up his "fear" line, not even Thoreau made it, he got it from a line of others all the way back to the 16th century.
Anyone slamming Obama is dragging Hillary down as well, as she has done the same things only without being done with express permission.

'Indeed, Mrs. Clinton made some of the same arguments Sunday in New Hampshire when she defended her earnest speaking style by saying, in an indirect reference to Mr. Obama, "you campaign in poetry, you govern in prose."
That particular political maxim was first uttered in a 1985 speech at Yale University-- by Mr. Cuomo.
______________
Notice they call it a "maxim." Use of a maxim does not come close to plagiarism. Didn't you guys go to school?
Posted by: maxim | Feb 19, 2008 5:20:41 PM
Obama did not lift "a line". He lifted a portion of a speech almost verbatim.
Claiming that phrases like "fired up" or "yes we can" are the intellectual property of Barack Obama is absurd. In fact, he isn't the first to use either phrase.
But like I said this wasn't a quip, a slogan, a phrase, a truism, etc. It was an entire portion of a speech. Huge difference.

IF OBAMA GETS OSAMA AS PRESIDENT THEN OSAMA WILL BE POOPING AND PEEING IN HIS PAJAMA'S AND CRYING FOR HIS MOMMA
Posted by: BANG BANG | Feb 19, 2008 5:15:44 PM
For the sake of this country, I can only hope that the only thing Obama and Patrick share are words, or what Obama fans euphemistically call "rhetorical flourish".
A question for Obama at the next debate:
We know that you and Deval Patrick are friends and share a lot of ideas. Do you also share opinions on governing?
Posted by: trainwreck | Feb 19, 2008 5:09:42 PM
How can you expect "change" and "hope" from Obama? All that he can do is reading from other people's speeches.
Plagiarism is death to any person's career, except when he is the head of a cult. The head of the cult can do anything that he wants, he can even have 4 or more wifes.
Steal? steal is nothing if you are the head of a cult.

Okay, so his "inspirational words" are why we are supposed to elect him president, yet he didn't even come up with them himself?
He's the Britney Spears of politics - a manufactured, shallow cokehead who doesn't write his own stuff. Wait, maybe I was too harsh - I don't know if Britney did coke or not...

At the end of the day, Obama copies and pastes--only.
Posted by: Vote4NoBO | Feb 19, 2008 4:49:55 PM
I asked a similar question earlier--why is there endless reporting about something so ridiculous and inconsequential and yet we read little to nothing about Clinton's uranium deal in Kazakhstan?

Does anyone have a date as to when these videos were taped?

If Senator Obama has no leadership skills and he is just an empty suit, why is his campaign running circles around "the Clintons"?
Yeah, that's what I thought. Next.
Posted by: Nobodys fool | Feb 19, 2008 4:39:12 PM
Why is this a big deal? Because a similar claim knocked Joe Biden out of a race several years ago? Does Huckabee give credit to the Bible when he speaks in "evangelical code" to his base? The reality is (1) most candidates employ speechwriters to one degree or another and (2) after thousands of political speeches given over hundreds of years in this country what is the possibility of coming up with an original (never before spoken) thought. The key is not saying something original but, instead, saying something relevant. (Check out what I just wrote - some one else might have said it before.

lets all make believe in your lala land.

Now that you've all had your fun, got a snicker, what now? Are we all supposed to cry or something? lol
Senator Obama is STILL the best candidate to be President. Period. He has more experience, a better vision, and the support of the American people.
Got Hope?
Obama '08

"Have you noticed that the leader of both Patrick's campaign and Obama's is David Axelrod?"
No kidding Sherlock. That's ptretty much the point. Are there any Obama supporters who actually understand why this matters and what a huge problem it is for Obama?
Posted by: geevill | Feb 19, 2008 4:09:52 PM
So what? So what? So what?
Posted by: Vote4BO | Feb 19, 2008 4:07:52 PM
What about people taking his line? I havnt heard him complain.
Posted by: James | Feb 19, 2008 4:00:17 PM
rat tat -Obama even copied his book title from his racist Minister.
"As a result, over the years, Wright became not only Obama's pastor, but his mentor. The title of Obama's recent book, The Audacity of Hope, is based on a sermon by Wright."
