Hillary Goes Negative on TV

February 13, 2008 11:19 AM

And so it begins…

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, has launched a negative TV ad against Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois.

As negative ads go, it's not particularly vicious. (You can watch it HERE.)

It slams Obama for not agreeing to a televised debate with Clinton in Wisconsin -- a perfectly factual hit.

But then the narrator says, "Maybe he'd prefer to give speeches than have to answer questions. Like why Hillary Clinton has the only health care plan that covers every American, and the only economic plan that freezes foreclosures."

What do you think?

Who else besides Retzko ($168,000) and Oprah is an Obama backer and financer?

Is this an act of desperation or what? And for all of those Clinton folks out there...lets just get it over with and convince Hillary to release those tax records now and not after a nomination. Thats like test driving a car after you buy it. We're not that stupid. Who is paying you? Where did the 5 million come from?

Another debate? Can someone send her a link to both their sites so that she can get the answers she is looking for?
If Hillary wants to reach the voters in Wisconsin she should leave Texas and head there. I think she should call Lifetime and set up debate time on "Snapped" because this fit throwing when she is not getting her way is crazy. Obama does not work for her campaign and should not have to schedule these Hillary's lifeline debates. I would rather see either candidate live than on ANOTHER debate, especially one that the press is pushing her to go negative.

And the way to see who knows more and has a better policy on issues is through a debate. The debates with 9 candidates, were more like tv ads. The Obamas have been making negative statements about Hillary that never get scrutinized.
And what about John Conyers' statement that he had many people tell him that they could never vote for a woman for president? Isn't that just aswrong as if a congresswoman publicly said that several people told her they could never vote for a black man? Why is mysogeny OK?

In 2000 and 2004 I watched the media railroad Al Gore and John Kerry out and George Bush in by reporting untruths and magnifying missteps of Gore and Kerry and by giving a free pass to Bush throughout the campaigns. The media treat elections as beauty contests where they strongly support the candidates they find more affable rather than those who will be the best leaders for our country.
I want the most knowledgeable person to make the most important decisions.

Go Hillary ! This shows strength on your part by calling Obama on his slippery ways. Shame on the media & press for not scrutinizing this person who would like to be leader of the greatest democracy on earth. The people of Wisconsin deserve to have a debate like the voters of any other state. There will be two names on the ballot and people have to decide between them. A debate is the most effective way to determine who actually has the knowledge & skills to be president. For those folks who like 'concerts', Oprah & plenty of rhetoric, Vote for Obama. The rest of us want a real president.

Bring it on Hillary...it will help Obama supporters get people sitting on the fence fired up and ready to go. Bill did a real good job of that after New Hampshire and in South Carolina.

All you want in a debate is a chance for another personal attack anyway. What's left to say after 18 debates. Enough already.

Posted by: Negative Doesn't Work | Feb 13, 2008 7:31:58 PM

The debates are media events and almost completely unsubstantive. The campaign is about the people. Him giving speeches and talkign to the people in the communities where contests will be held is exactly what it is all about. Why is Hillary not campaigning in WI. or Hi? Why is she working delegate strategy instead of trying to appeal to the nation as a whole?

Jake, You continually put Hillary for doing what is right in this election. In your eyes, and the rest of MSNBC, Obama is your candidate and does nothing wrong. WHY IS OBAMA AFRAID TO ACCEPT THE DEBATE IN MINN. AT MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY? He can only give speeches, and doesn't even give people a chance to ask questions. Hillary is right, this election is about who is best to lead OUR COUNTRY after the mess of BUSH. You and MSNBC also pushed BUSH on the American people, and look were we are now. I guest you have nothing better to do then to see if you can twist any news about Hillary. How about Obama and his wife bad mouthing Hillary and Bill at their rallies. I have heard this repeatedly from those who have attended them. Why don't you do the work of a real journalist and look & investigate both candidates EQUALLY, FAIRLY AND ACCURATELY. I will vote for Hillary or I won't vote at all for a President this year. And I have been voting Democratic for 48 years. Not if it is OBAMA, the man without substance.

Tom J - Your comment/question: "I voted for Bill both times and until recently I liked both of them very much. Now I'm at the point I never want to see or hear either of them again. Does anyone else feel this way?"

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more. I loved Bill Clinton, and didn't have negative feelings about Hillary either. I now as you say can't stand to see or hear either of them. I don't know if I can even vote Democratic if she's our nominee even though I've never voted anything but Democratic. Now I can for the first time see my husband's point of view after 18 years. He can not stand Hillary because he said she will say and do anything to get elected but he gained respect for Bill Clinton after he left office. However, once he started watching the "win at all cost" campaigning he was doing, he said I'm right back where I was 8 years ago, I just have no respect for him or her again. My husband voted in the Maine Democratic caucuses with me Sunday for Obama. And he is one of those Independents you heare about that will vote for Obama and will NOT vote for Hillary - an he's originally from New York.

Reading some of the responses to Hillary finally taking off the kid gloves is refreshing. Obama is playing sneaky and hard, as well as,having playe unfair from the time he decided to run as the Democrat candidate. When that 1984 You Tube tape aired--he was fully behind it. Mind you--has any of Obama's groupies asked themselves--where was he for the past three years after his infamous speech at the DNC? Can anyone recall him being on the national airwaves sounding out against the war, the economy, jobs, illegal immigration, the poor and middle class, health care and things that are important to hard working Americans? The answer is a resounding NO! The media has given Sen Obama a free ride far to long. No one seems to want to touch him because they are afraid that blacks will get up in arms--this indeed is one of the biggest mistakes the media and his supporters have done to the free political process--and to end this, Al Sharpton does not speak for me as a AA--I can do that on my own and at the ballot box.

Hillary is in Texas - Obama is in Wisconsin meeting the voters face to face. If she wants the voters to hear from both of them so bad, where is she?

As far as when people say he doesn't talk specifics - check out his web site for all the issues and his plans. A lot of this is just rhetoric coming from the Clinton campaign that's being being repeated in the media until it becomes gospel. He also got critized when he was too detailed and now he gets critized for not being detailed enough.

In 2002 when everyone was on the "war" bandwagon, even the media, Obama took a very difficult stance that at the time was not considered the "right" political move. Obama put his political career on the line to oppose going to war in Iraq, and warned of “an occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined costs, and undetermined consequences." Now that foresight is not something 'experience' can get you - either have it or you don't.

One comment I heard once was when you sit down with Obama and even if you have differing views, when you leave the room, you may not have agreed, but you know that he understands where you're coming from and respects your differences. Why are people afraid to let our country move forward and not backwards - and to the woman that say "it's our turn," I would agree if it was just a different woman running. I'm a 49 year old white female originally from Georgia, now living in Maine - and I am voting for Obama because I feel we need him to help bring our country back together. We can't continue with the divisive politics of the past and present.

And as far as the experience argument, even though I don't buy that Hillary is that experienced, just remember George Bush was a two term Governor and Cheney was Secretary of Defense - and see what all that "experience" got us.

This comments on these web site are interesting as it's juat a place for people to vent it seems. It seems that most people who post on these have made their mind up and many are just being critical of whichever candidate they're against. It's too bad it's become so negative. But I have to admit, I'm obviously biased as I feel the negativity and anger came when the Clinton "win at all cost" machine started up again Obama. He's tried to keep this a positive campaign for the most part. And she and Bill have not.

Sorry Jake - didn't really answer your question.

It's not that she's being negative, it's that she's being so insufferably annoying.

I voted for Bill both times and until recently I liked both of them very much. Now I'm at the point I never want to see or hear either of them again. Does anyone else feel this way?

So that's what the Clintons think voters want? More debates? Really? Wow. Really in touch, those Clintons.

Earth to Hillary: We have the internet. We can watch the videos and read the transcripts of each and every debate so far. You know what? You say the same stuff in all of them. Why would we want to watch a live replay?

And yes we DO understand the difference between the Clinton and Obama ideas of universal coverage. We just prefer Obama's. What part of that do you not get?

G Checkout HUCK. He's gotta big heart and the Arkansas MoJo. See Huck's already knocked two phonies and a few fools out of the race. Wanna see him take out another one....not talking about McCain, because he's my favorite Democrat. But get Huck the votes that take care of that.

You see he's got the compassion that you need to go along with the conservatism. He's got the Broad Shoulders this war weary world needs.

Just get on board and let Huck Carry The Load.

Go HUCK Go.

It's about time Hillary started to call Sen. Obama on his tactics. The media sure has been all too willing to turn a blind eye. We've had a total of one 1-on-1 debate. Hillary was crystal clear on substantive issues. Obama was not. Obama prefers to make speeches rather than talk about specific policies and implementation. Is this what our country has really become? We are so desperate to feel good about our fragile little egos that we now pick a president whose speeches make some feel good? I'd like my President to actually be able to tackle issues rather than going around making pretty speeches. When I want to hear an inspirational lecture, I'll go to church. I suspect, though, that he prefers to avoid debates so that he can continue to go around to his following, preaching like the messiah, while twisting Sen. Clinton's positions in ways that she isn't there to correct!

If this is what the Democratic Party has come to, count me out after 25+ years of being a loyal member. If I want to be part of the kind of vitriolic, hateful speech that Obama supporters have been spewing, I'll vote Republican AND protect my wallet at the same time. So much for the open and fair-minded party!

spock

Brother you gotta stop comparing everyone you don't like to Stalin or some other notarious pinko commie.

You ever hear of Godwin's Law? Use the wikipedia and check it out. Read it but instead of that other bad dude put Stalin in his place. You see what I mean? Bad for your conservative street cred.

Now for the important news.....without Hills, we ain't gonna win in november....that is unless we all get aboard the HuckaTrain.

You ready to do the right thing, and back Huck? Even if it as penance for supporting Willard, we'll take it. Just no formal endorsement though.

Go HUCK Go

Hillary should not be endlessly lamenting over the fact that her speeches put fish to sleep. A few months ago, everyone was berating Obama for being too professorial and detailed on the issues. Now they say he's too uplifting and inspiring. A pox on the Clintons and their tactics!

Posted by: Carol Lancaster | Feb 13, 2008 3:38:52 PM

Negative AD – why? All it states is factual!

Wonderful Ad
Well positioned Ad

Obama does not like to talk specifics – he does not have the answers.

Obama read his speech well using a teleprompter – but has trouble with off the cuff responses.

Obama’s health care plan does not cover everyone –he admitted as much in the last debate.

Finally – Hillary comes to life.

i think that campaign ad didn't make any sense. you say you are the better candidate but you put debating as your ad? that question your ability as a candidate you should have spoken on how you are going to fix the messed economy, or the war or something pertaining to the issues we are facing. girl get a grip! i think you are choosing the wrong campaign managers.
