Lobbying On The Straight Talk Express?
February 25, 2008 7:09 AM
Obscured by the speculation about Sen. John McCain's relationship with lobbyist Vicki Iseman -- which both parties say is purely platonic -- are serious questions about the disconnect between McCain's reformist rhetoric and the lobbyists who populate his planet.
Campaign manager Rick Davis and chief political adviser Charlie Black Jr are both big lobbyists.
Then there's THIS choice detail in the Washington Post, that "Black said he does a lot of his work by telephone from McCain's Straight Talk Express bus."
Excuse me?

UPDATE: McCain spox Jill Hazelbaker emails me to point out that Davis is a former lobbyist. "Rick hasn't been a lobbyist for over two years and he's on leave of absence from his firm," she writes. So noted.

You are right about that. I am a Hillary supporter, but I just loved John Edwards too. I hope he stays out of this mess, and Gore too. Let them keep their dignity and save it for next time. Just about all candidates take money. I don't know why people go on and on about it. Good luck!

Obama mania- would not Obama giving money to campaigns make him a lobbyist, since that is the same thing lobbyist do, the difference is the constitution protects lobbyist, but dow not protect Obama's illegal actions! is he not buying votes. Did he not say he is above Washington politcs

McCain is the literal embodiment of a lobbyists' dream.
He has 29 lobbyists on staff as his closest inner circle. ** TWENTY NINE LOBBYISTS, AMERICA! ** Does that sound like a recipe for "straight talk" to you?
If (God forbid) George W. McCain should get in, his administration will be bought and paid for by lobbyists, just as GWB's has been, and lobbyists will write all of the legislation for his administration, just as they've done in GWB's.
It will be non-stop corruption on a scale that will make GWB, Rove and Cheney extremely proud.

I'm surprised that Sen. McCain can engage in any kind of "straight talk," since it's difficult to talk out of both sides of your mouth at the same time. Apparently, a new day is dawning, if Sen. McCain gets elected: lobbyist access to the President 24/7.

The post refers to "straight talk," so let's get some "straight talk" into the framework.
The other news services have been buzzing about the elevated rhetoric between Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton accused Senator Barack Hussein Obama.
Clinton says that Obama is including false and distorted information in his campaign, and, of course, Obama says it isn't true. But, could Clinton be right? Maybe...
According to Obama, Ralph Nader said there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush.
Not true.
What Ralph Nader did say was that there was little difference between the tactics and abilities of the two major political parties.
Nader went on to describe George W. Bush as a giant corporation running for President while describing Gore as knowledgeable.
And, this all took place in 2000.
What influence did Barak Hussein Obama have over national politics at that time?
Was Obama even a relevant part of the discussion?
Now, when Obama sees a third party candidate who is a real threat to his potential regime, he resorts to hateful name calling and mistatements.
Instead, he resorts to name calling – labeling me a perennial candidate.
Well, Senator Obama, perennial injustices deserve perennial candidates who fight them.
That's just not "straight talk" where I come from.

When you comment about lobbyists, you are making reference to the Washington insiders who use them and are used by them.
That would include Clinton, McCain, and Obama. So, why are they left out of your articles?
Could it be that someone is showing media bias?
Could it be the only candidate that is not beholding to lobbyists is Ralph Nader?
You be the judge.

ABC News Reports:
The study found that Obama has sent more than $694,000 from either his campaign account or his political action committee to superdelegates -- the members of Congress, governors, and other party leaders who receive automatic votes at the Democratic National Convention.
About 40 percent of the elected officials who have endorsed Obama have received campaign contributions from him, the center reports. Those superdelegates have received a total of $228,000 from him.

Even better, Charlie Black is chairman of Mark Penn's lobbying firm...that's right BKSH is Burson-Marsteller's lobbying subsidiary.

We need to cut out lobbyists on Capital Hill. There are 3 lobbyists for every Congressman. The lobbyist do not represent constituents. They represent special interest groups. We don't need a president who relies on lobbyists to run his campaign. Let elect some one with real governing experience. Let's elect a true fiscal and social conservative. Someone who knows how to balance their own campaign finances and is not in debt. Don't let media and Washington insiders tell us how to vote, just to line their own pockets. Let's elect Mike Huckabee. Texas and Ohio, we are counting on you to keep the ball rolling clear through to the Convention! VOTE HUCKABEE!!

Who's paying his phone bill?
He should disclose his clients and the issues on which he is working for them.

That must be some campaign bus! Lobbyists making deals on the phone, journos gathered at their idols feet, yukking it up and telling torture jokes over beers and whiskey!
