That "YES WE CAN" Video
February 03, 2008 11:35 AM
You've got to watch THIS, I've never seen anything like it.
It's a Barack Obama speech accompanied by celebrities singing Obama's words as he delivers the speech he gave after his losing New Hampshire.
Some of the faces you will recognize, others maybe not. There's Scarlett Johansson, Herbie Hancock, Kate "Private Practice" Walsh, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Dartmouth grad Aisha Tyler, John Legend, Adam "CSI: Miami" Rodriquez, Kelly Hu, Amber Valletta (the dead woman from "What Lies Beneath"), Nick Cannon, Tatyani Ali, Eric "Six Feet Under" Balfour, Nicole Scherzinger...Harold Perrineau from LOST....
Read more about it HERE.

McCain will not take this country anywhere, he will be another harding... etc. We need a president, who wants new ideas, maybe a sense of socialism to bring us up. As many people think that new thinking is bad... it isn't. The last one who had new ideas, brought policies which are still intact today. If you dont know what the new idea is, the you shouldn't even debate against Obama. Have a sense of politics, economics, and the country in general. We can't have a republican in office, sure they know how to run a business, however, business is different than 20 years ago. We are no longer a country that just does cooperates within itself, we HAVE TO WORK WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD. This country cannot think that they live without the rest of the world. We have to wake up and realize that we are not only talking about a governement of states, but We Are Communicating with the rest of the world. McCain, Clinton, any other status qou, pardon the spelling but it doesnt matter, as the point itself is more important. We need a new school of thinking. In addition, this is a country with the SEPARATION OF STATE AND RELIGION, please maintain it, stop putting your nieve religious thoughts into it!

This is a well-done video, regardless how one votes. Those who put it together have done a wonderful thing.
As for American Idol comparisons, can anyone explain to me how Ronald Reagan became President of the US and how Arnold Schwartzenegger became Governor of California? American politics is a popularity contest, and prom king is an apt metaphor for the President of the US.
It doesn't take much depth of political analysis to recognize that GW Bush was not elected President on the basis of political merit or strength of his ideas or his plan to set America on the right track. He didn't even offer such a vapid ideal as HOPE. His track record of experience was a shambles. Obama has every bit as much potential and promise and right to be President as Bush had, probably a lot more of each.
Obama won my vote--long before this video was made--because he offers leadership based on a positive agenda, not based on negative portrayals of his opponents. The more others attack him, and the more he sells his positive message, the more I'll support him.

What are we looking for in our next president? We have top experts in every field who will be advising him/her. The disastrous war in Iraq is not because of lack of military might. The health care crisis is not due to medical incompetency. The administration and congress accomplished little not because there weren't good ideas or specific plans.
What failed is leadership and smallness of our politicians, who are more concerned about winning the game/election than doing what's right. They prefer fighting bitterly as partisans and have nothing done than coming together and make consensus as Americans.
If the political climate wasn't so negative and destructive, I'd love to have Hilary for president, as she would be a great executive with her specifics. Unfortunately we don't have that luxury right now. Before anything we have to stand a step higher and have a drastic and positive change in our political overtone, bring people together and set a new, better climate going forward.
If that's what we must do, Sen. Obama the one. Specifics and expertise is NOT what we lack and NOT what caused all the failures (not saying he doesn't have it). For the next presidency we very much need leadership. Ones ability to inspire and bring us together, as the Senator has unquestionably demonstrated, is indeed what we desperately need in our next president.

I am a very dissapointed in the failure of the state of washington to make sure that all the votes are were properly counted. This is very scary. I hope this is resolved today. I mean really how hard is it to count 1500 votes. Do it already if there is a question. All the votes should have been counted at least once. Huckabee is not even calling for a recount, just a first count. Why is washington dragging its feet. Do they have something to hide?

I'd like to say to all of those who don't like Obama for whatever misguided or other personal reasons they may have, GET OVER IT. Obama will be the next President of United States of America. America is ready for a substantial change in the way our country is being run and the world is looking to America exhibit leadership. Be thankful that America has a man who can and will lead and will fill that leadership gap that is so sorely missing in today’s world. He has the passion, compassion and intellect to affect our world in a dynamic and wholesome way. Men of this caliber are rare and come along once or twice in a lifetime. How fortunate we are to have such a man. Change is in the air and America is back. Can we affect change? YES, WE CAN. God bless America and God bless Obama.

This video nails the essential difference between Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama: Sen. Clinton extols her experience and resume while exhorting others to vote for her; Sen. Obama actually inspires people to vote for him.

Obama is like one of thoese boy's band that did sync-singing.
Posted by: Paul Green | Feb 4, 2008 9:19:49 PM
I am 43 from the UK, didn't recognise any of the celebrities on the video and believe this is a good thing, because a new generation is growing politically. Clearly the youth of America is invigorated by this man, as is the rest of the world.
But then of course you have the Conservatives, Republicans in the US, who by definition of the word conserve, like to sit on things for as long as possible. until it rots underneath them.
Too self centred to have a world view, to understand that China needs to be balanced by a powerful country which currently doesn't even notice that China is getting all the resources it needs from Africa for pennies. Only Obama can intervene here.

I seem to read a lot of posts by people who are concerned that they feel Senator Obama isn't talking about the issues enough, and they are concerned that he might be all speech and no work. This couldn't be further from the truth! If you are still undecided, please either go to
or view his blueprint for change at

Canada is still part of the Kingdom, you cannot understand the US politics because you have a Prime Minister and US has a President. Hoping to see that one day your brilliant female black governor will become a President of a free Canadian Republic.

I cry every time I see it. Absolutely stunning. An uncynical message of what America can become in the upcoming era. He has my vote.
Posted by: Beth | Feb 4, 2008 3:50:12 PM
Of course speeches with a soul purpose of exciting supporters aren't going to be full of specific plans and things, that's what the debates are for. He's clearly stated all of his plans and how he plans to pay for them and everything else.
The amazing speeches are just a bonus and a sign that he is a figure that can lead a nation and capture hearts.
Posted by: David | Feb 4, 2008 1:55:33 PM
To those who dismiss Obama's ability to inspire....what do you think leadership is about? It's the ability to inspire people to follow you and he is demonstrating the power of inspiration at every turn.
This is not a campaign video it was made by people who wanted to be part of what Obama is doing. And as such I think it's commendable.
Posted by: Lu | Feb 4, 2008 8:18:34 AM
The video is pretty well done, and is further proof we are seeing a prototype politician that may forever change how political campaigns and canidates are marketed. Obama is smart enough and cool enough to make this more positive (some passive aggresive stuff aside) type of campaign work to his advantage.
I think his strategy of contrasting the Clinton machine (yes, the dark connotations are deliberate and earned) with his campaign needs to get more aggressive. Hillary is unelectable. If Obama wants his party in the Oval Office, he better start reminding voters there is a huge gap between what the Clintons say vs. how they use their power and influence. Pick up a copy of Partners in Power (originally authorized by the Clintons) for an objective look at the Clintons in Akansas and the White House. You will never see them the same way.
Posted by: Harris Pilton | Feb 4, 2008 4:35:29 AM
People need to understand that Obama's campaign had nothing to do with this. This was simply some of his supporters taking video from his speech and transforming it into something amazing. Even the most cold-hearted Hillary supporter has to admit that video is an astounding piece of work.

As if I care about what the celebs think if they think at all. I don't believe a politician from the corrupt Chicago political machine can be un-tainted. no way.

Alright, thats honestly enough. How dare any1 say that Islam is a reason not 2 vote 4 some1?! Clearly this just shows how biaised u r! Myself, Im Lebanese, and Im a devout Christian, but some of my best frends r Muslim! All the "terrorist" propaganda that has been transmitted thru the states is going 2 the average Americans head! 4 example, my frends from here think that Allah is a term ppl shout b4 they commit a suicide bombing. Actually, its a way 2 say God, in any religion, Islam or Christianity, in Arabic. C? Exactly y I like Obama: Despite MLKs hard work, the US is still racist, only its been redirected. Obama realizes this and he is trying 2 even out the differences. Truth is, some ppl have violent agendas, some murder others, some hurt ppls feelings, but this happens no matter ur religion or ethnicity. Go Obama 08! Btw, Super Tuesday is my bday. Make it a good 1!

It's funny how Hillary supporters think "the media" is trying to convince them to vote for Obama...while Obama supporters think that "the media" is trying to push the notion of a "dream ticket".
I wonder where the truth lies?
Posted by: washingtonian | Feb 3, 2008 6:54:28 PM
Hilary Clinton is fighting for what she thinks is Right For America.
Barak Obama is Fighting for the Soul Of America!
Obama in 08....Pass It On!

YES WE CAN.....still vote how we want and vote Hillary Rodham Clinton into the Presidency in 2008 and stop the media from trying to get us to vote OTHERWISE !!!!!

Jake Tapper and this whole abc politics website is so BIASED. Look at the front of politics and count all the pro-obama stories against everything about Hillary that is negative.

I agree with you, Jim-----they ARE deleting and not showing what they do not agree with. At first I thought the reason some of my posts were deleted or not posted was because some of my posts possibly violated the the "blog rules". But no, there have been very, very maliciously hateful blogs left on blog spots. And my analytical but respectful blogs have been deleted.
It is a very sad and scary day in America when we utilize freedom of speech, and then have it taken away by the very vehicle that is supposed to bring us the nation's news in a fair and impartial way. And we KNOW it is happening---and it is not just this media outlet-----it is others. Take notice that this is happening, people from other countries. America is having it's "free speech" twisted and shaped by journalists who control the stories, for their own adjenda. America will never be the same again after this election, no matter WHOM is elected.......

Dear Karen Ward who posted below, I NEVER mentioned that Obama is a semi-Muslim. My post was PRO-OBAMA. It was 8maccabees below me who mentioned that.
I, like anyone who has half a brain, knows that Obama is a dedicated Christian, and has been praising Jesus for decades.

Great video. This is America and artists are allowed to make videos. Barack Obama wasn't involved in this and didn't even know about it. Some people need to lighten up.
Posted by: Susan | Feb 3, 2008 4:34:18 PM
This is one of the most creative videos I've ever seen...it'a an art piece. Too bad some people continue to resist the good they see right in front of them. His speech was inspirational, whether you want him to win or not, the facts are it inspired will.i.am and Jesse Dylan, along with other creatives to take Obama's actual words in his speech to create a montage of visuals to help us hear his words. This was his concession speech after the New Hampshire loss. I think We Should!

I live in Canada. And laugh everytime I think of American Politics. Its become a cheerleading event. We here in Canada use to look up to United States. Obama would never stood a chance in Canada. We would of looked at his record and seen he was prone to corruption. We don't run cheerleading contest here.

Whats wrong with a little inspiration? If Obama can get people excited about making this a better nation- more power to him
Posted by: Hellogoodbye | Feb 3, 2008 2:24:26 PM
Obama is running for president of Mexico next. He wants to give illegal aliens drivers license. Obama will do or say anything to get votes all the while lying to us and ruining the American base.

More cheerleading from Tapper and ABC.. what a shocker.
Hey guys, this isn't america idol, this is the president.. slightly more important.
No wonder this country is going to hell in a handbasket.

I'm just wondering when ABC "News" is going to make it clear on this blog that they are editing and deleting comments that they don't like. Is this CCTV in China? All you have to do is post a notice above the comment section stating clearly that you edit/delete comments that you don't like.
Watch this get deleted now.

Cat Scratch mentions Obama being a semi-muslim. My guestion is "What is a semi-muslim? Obama states he is a Christian, so what's the problem. There is too much prejudice in this country. Americans need to educate themselves on religion and other histroical facts which in the final analysis may change their minds about being the superior ones. To be successful political in order to move this country forward, collective cooperation is necessary.
Posted by: Karen Ward | Feb 3, 2008 1:08:53 PM
It is pathetic if the American public can not pick a president on issues. It seems to me that this video shows that the public can be influenced by celebrities. They are all very insilated and wealthy. They know no nothing about averaage citizens. I don't care if they came from humble beginnings they are out of the main stream. If anyone votes for Obama on the strength of a celebrity, they are ignorant.
Posted by: louisepowers | Feb 3, 2008 12:43:19 PM
I love how his campaign didn't organize it, and these celebrities were inspired enough to come together to do this independently. Given the short notice, it's particularly impressive how it was done, especially with everyone's busy schedules.
No other candidate could possibly inspire something like this.
I think this is particularly telling of how Obama motivates people into action instead of perpetuating the usual mindset of Americans who sit lazily on their behinds complaining or clapping, while expecting politicians to do all the work. As a nation, by getting personally involved and working towards goals together, we can achieve so much more. We need a President who can inspire such involvement, such initiative and such desire to do something great for the country. It's not all pretty words and speeches when we are inspired to actually TAKE ACTION.
The other candidates inspire nothing but lethargy and lack of vision.
OBAMA 08

What bothers me about Obama is that he doesn't talk about his plans and how he's going to change things in his speeches. He's a very inspirational speaker who reminds me of a preacher & sales man in one. He talks about hope and change and says yes we can but where's the beef, that's not a plan to make the economy stronger or health care affordable or protect this country from attacks. To me he's more of a talker trying to sell snake oil. IMO voting for him would be too much of a gamble and this video did nothing for me, I don't see a reason why it will be worth voting for him other than having more kumbayah moments, do we really think the terrorist or anyone will be will to sit down sing kumbayah and all is forgiven because yes we can, even writing this doesn't make sense to me. I think Obama need to talk more about plans and projections and give us something more to think about.
