Bill Clinton: 'I Don't Give a Rip About All This Name-Calling….Let's Just Saddle Up and Have an Argument'
March 26, 2008 2:06 PM
Don't like the tenor of the Democratic contest?
Don't look to former President Bill Clinton for consolation.
Speaking to voters in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the 42nd president Wednesday said, "I don't give a rip about all this name-calling that's going on. They've been going on ever since Iowa. I've heard them say all these things about her.
"Apparently it's okay to say bad things about a girl," he said laughing, in an apparent reference to his 60-year-old wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, per ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf.
"The only thing that matters is, what happens to you?" said Mr. Clinton. "That's all that matters. If a politician doesn't wanna get beat up, he shouldn't run for office. If a football player doesn't want to get tackled or want the risk of an a occasional clip he shouldn't put the pads on."
Watch the VIDEO HERE.
Clinton also had a word to say about all the surrogates of both his wife's and Sen. Barack Obama's campaigns whom had been ejected, including former Obama campaign adviser Samantha Power, and former Clinton campaign finance committee member Geraldine Ferraro.
"I don't think any of these people oughta be asked to resign," said the former president. "All these guys that say bad things about any other campaign, they say should they resign? My answer is no, they're repeating the party line. They oughta stay right where they are.
"Let's just saddle up and have an argument," he continued. "What's the matter with that? That's what America's about, right?
"All this moaning and groaning -- none of these politicians are gonna have anything like the tough time half the people in this audience have already had for the last seven years. This is about you. Don't you let anybody take this election away from you."

Florida and Michigan voices HAVE TO be heard. Otherwise the Union will be just like China. Neither TIBET in China nor the "Democratic states" of FLORIDA and MICHIGAN have voices. What kind of democracy is the United States of America? Is it a democracy? Why didn´t Barack Obama agree to a re-vote in the two states? What kind of person is he?

tc: yes, I did see AC 360 tonight - at least until the point that I couldn't stand it any more. Is it only me or do these guys/gals like AC ignore anything negative about Obama? And if there is something that affects Obama negatively, they blame it on Hillary!
My God! This reminds me of two things: the McCain Straight Talk Express of 2000 -- the media was so excited about just being near to him! 2) Bush -- the guy they all wanted to have a beer with. Who cared about being AWOL in the Nat'l Guard?? Not the US media.
Here we go again with Obama. So if he's the nominee we've got two media sweethearts -- Obama and McCain.

Typical Clintonian hypocrisy. When it suits him bubba labels criticism the "politics of personal destruction" and his daughter just tells questioners that it's "none of your business". In this Case Clintonian hypocrisy seems to be saying ... lets "saddle up and have an argument". These Clintons are absolutely gurgling in hypocrisy and ill will.

I would like to see a clean campaign with class. I didn't mean to single anyone out.

Quoth Kelly: "Just the fact thay Obama didn't even have his name on the ballot in Michigan shows that he doesn't have the experience to run this country. And on top of that advisors like Power had never worked in a politiacal campaign before..."
Er... did you forget that the national party rules encouraged candidates to remove their names from the ballot of states breaking the rules? So cheating is a prerequisite for running the country now?
And yes, Samantha Power had never worked in a political campaign before. She'd won a Pulitzer Prize, and had a teaching position at Harvard, but I suppose that those aren't sufficient qualifications for public service any more.
(And did you realize the irony of making a swipe at Samantha Power in the comments for an article about Bill Clinton saying that people shouldn't resign because they called someone a nasty name?)

Many of you Hillary supporters sound like neo-cons. Whats up with all the hate? Get over it. You wish your candidate and their campaign could conduct themself like Obama and his campaign. Please stop the whinning.

Man I would still love that dinner with Bill. He is a ball of fire. No wonder the women fell all over him when he was in the white house. I would have the best time of my life if I could have dinner with Bill. He is refreshing. Ahhh
Like a spring breeze chasing away the stinky stale air. I could listen to him for hours. He is a brilliant man. Behind every briliant man is a brilliant woman!
Go Hillary

Anyone see Anderson Cooper tonight? He looked like a love sick school girl anytime one of the members of the most biased political team on tv mentioned Obama.

If Obama wins the nomination the general election would all be about race. The Republicans will do everything to smear him in addition to the already powerful Wright sermons. I don't know how the country will recover from all the pain the race issue is sure to dig up. Everything will be taken out of context, everybody will be called racist. I doubt there'll be time to talk about the issues. The only winner after that is the media.

The funny thing is that Obama's campaign has been super negative but the media is choosing to not tell that story. Its a joke. the media should be ashammed of its coverage and its efforts to inappropriately influence the direction of this race.
I have lost so much respect for Obama. He claims he brings a new kind of politics but he actually doesn;t. he needs to just be honest that he is a regular 'ol politician who happens to be less experienced and has some questionable associations like his pastor. Did anyone catch that he initially stated that he was unaware of the pastor's statements but then in his speech he said he actually had sat in the pew and heard outrageous types of staements. Did the media cover that??? Of course not. Its ridiculous.
Thankfully many of us see through this and see Hillary as the very best candidate. Its time to look beyond the media as it is NOT their right to influence the election.
Hillary '08

Just remember whomever becomes the nominee for the Democrats we need to stand behind him or her. We don't want to be at war for another 100 years. We need to start taking care of our own.
Go Hill!

Gotta hand it to him though. Oblahma is a fast learner. He learned about the issues on the campaign trail from Hillary and McCain. {{{sigh}}}
He talks a good talk.

You know thier is power and strength in numbers.

"She can have the delegates from FL and MI with Barrack not even being on the ballot in MI and she would still be down in the delegate count... I don't understand MOST of the people have spoken and by every measure they chose OBAMA."
How dare you try to kick me out of my vote and I'm not even from FL or MI. I have not spoken! Do you realize he hasn't won the delegate count of 2025?
That means he hasn't won! Sounds like you are very bad at math. Hillary gets to count the votes for MI & FL. She just doesn't have the delegates seated yet of which she is behind by 110..news will fudge on these numbers but it's 110. All she needs is 80,000 votes to tie and 110 delegates to tie. She has all the BIG BLUE states needed to win the GE. He has all the tiny repub states err RED states..now I have heard it all and in all my days of voting have never heard anyone be so proud of winning the red states unless they are a Reupublican!!!! LOL...I'm Tired of the song and dance people. Open your eyes..the race is still going...like it or not. If he is tired he can step down. It would be unfair to ask him to leave the race if he was trailing by this small of a margin. Hill can still win without the delgates in FL & MI. Don't listen to Lazy Pelozi. She ran to the Dali Lama for spring break to get away from her own rhetoric.
You all watch too much NBC. Stop believing the TV pundits...we need to come together and the pundits are hired by the repubs...they want McCain...who will slaughter Oblahma. So they support Oblahma for the nominee.

Barack Obama is a coward. If he had any sense of what is right and wrong, he would have delivered his "inspirational" speech to Reverend Wright and his congregation months or years ago. Instead he waited until the nation found out about Wright, and his speech was more "damage control" than inspiration. We need a fighter in the White House, not some coward who lets his surrogates do his dirty work for him so that he can remain "above the fray". Hillary Clinton will fight for me, she will fight for my children, she will fight for this nation.
