Clinton: What's All This Clinton-Obama Ticket Talk?

March 10, 2008 6:12 PM

At Ravello's Café-Pizza in Scranton, Penn., just now, I asked Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., about the talk of a Clinton-Obama ticket, which has been ginned up by her, her husband, and her campaign chairman.

(More on that HERE or watch HERE)

Her answer was quite strange, considering it's been her camp fueling this buzz.

TAPPER: "Senator, how do you reconcile your suggestion that maybe Senator Obama would be appropriate to be on a Clinton-Obama ticket while at the same time you are suggesting that he isn't prepared to be commander-in-chief?"

CLINTON: "Well this thing has really been given a life of its own. You know, a lot of Democrats like us both and have been very hopeful that they wouldn't have to make a choice, but obviously Democrats have to make a choice and I'm looking forward to getting the nomination. And it's premature to talk about whoever might be on whose ticket, but I believe that I am ready to serve on day one."

Bizarre.

Hillary should release her full tax returns and her white house schedules

Mark Mathews:

Oh, that’s just precious.

Clinton’s campaign is ineffective and incoherent, but somehow it is Senator Obama’s fault. More blame and excuses, just like we see from Clinton every time things don’t go her way.

Your argument is that Clinton can’t figure out what Obama stands for, so she can’t figure out what to attack, and therefore she can’t campaign. Has it ever occurred to you that campaigning for president should be more than attacking your rivals? Perhaps your candidate should try talking about herself and her own ideas from time to time – every time I see her, she’s railing against Obama. A trifle obsessive, if you ask me.

(And as for Clinton’s universal healthcare plan, while she’s at it I think she should fix the homelessness problem by mandating that all homeless people buy a house. I can’t believe that Democrats are actually considering a candidate so out of touch with the lower classes that she thinks you can just pass a law forcing everyone to buy medical insurance and *poof*, the problem will be solved.)

Clinton has struggled to make an effective and coherent campaign. I can understand why. Her opponent, Obama, doesn't stand for anything. He stands for everything - "unity" - and "change" - and other magical things. The problem is that Obama doesn't stand for anything concrete. He doesn't stand for universal healthcare. In fact, he aggressively opposes universal healthcare, and he even uses Republican-style attacks to demonize the fundamental idea that Clinton and Edwards supported, which is that all people should be mandated to have healthcare access. Obama doesn't stand for anything. He stands for himself and his lovely personality. He has successfuly turned American politics, once again, into American Idol. He will win and the tradition of voting for shallow personality politics wins again!

Did I say it? I didn't say it. Who said it? No one said anything.

Another day, another Hillary. Who will it be tomorrow? Bitter Hillary, Appeasing Hillary, Sarcastic Hillary, Teary Hillary, Laughing Hillary, Scary Hillary, Boxing Hillary, Honored Hillary, Commander Hillary, Experienced Hillary, Secretive Hillary, Inevitable Hillary, or Flat Out Crazy Hillary?

I can't wait for the day when we have just one: Private Citizen Hillary.

DON'T BE DUPED!!!

Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very fast.

You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don’t want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care. So they can make more profit for them-self.

Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!

As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.

If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.

The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket now! All democrats need to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton. So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.

Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.

You should be angry America. “This is not a game” (Hillary Clinton)

Sincerely

jacksmith...

It's not that Sen. Obama SAYS he's the front-runner...it's that ALL the relevant statistics (delegates attained, number of contests won and total votes received)...ALL verify that Sen. Obama is the clear front runner. Now, with Mississippi soon to be added to his ever-increasing string of wins...let's not forget that Sen. Obama has.......momentum!

Don you understand that the media is with-holding HUNDREDS of stories and negative facts about Clinton. Sure they are being negative towards Obama. Because it suits their interests to make this race go on as long as possible. When Obama was getting all the media it was positive media. Now that Hillary has won those other states Obama is getting negative media. Either way they are giving Obama the majority of the media. And Clinton in all of her arrogance doesn't realize that if she wins the nomination (im talking the day of) 20 negative adds will be released on her almost immediately. The media has saved ALL their ammo on Clinton thus far. And you're taking the bait. One thing everyone has to realize is that the President doesn't work all alone. They have a number of educated specialists who assist them in the cabinet. Congress does most of the work and basically the presidents have the right to pass or veto bills (that the cabinet and him/her discuss thoroughly) So I don't understand why everyone else can't see that.

Obama has taken the dirt they throw at him. When the media favors Obama, she does whine about it. Lets be real. Obama isn't whining about the Hillary attacks. But Hillary is saying that she can stand up to republicans when in actuality she was already showing herself falling under pressure. One of the reasons I support Obama is because when he could have been CEO making millions, he decided to help out his community and get people jobs, homes etc. He was in the state legislature for 8 years which means he sees how federal laws effect lives on state level. I don't think longevity in Wshington should constitute as experience. See everybody knows exactly what experience Obama has. And Clinton was able to get away with saying she is the experience candidate because it really can't be challenged by Obama that much. But don't think the Republican machine will not take away everything piece by piece from her "35" years. McCain will be seen as the experience candidate and her ammo will backfire. You have to really pay attention to how the media is working. They are making Clinton think that she has a chance against McCain now so that voters keep her in the race. They WANT the superdelegates to decide so that this can go to court and ruin the democratic party. They are trying to divide us week by week and we are taking the bait. We are allowing ourselves to bash each other (Hillary and Obama supporters) and are not realizng that we have acommon goal. My goal is to see a democratic white house in January. We need to aim for that, regardless of the candidate. We are only doing the republicans a favor by dividing ourselves behind ONE candidate. We need to realize that members of congress and the cabinet will make most of the decisions. We need to realize that as long as a democrat is in office we can go to bed and not worry about being sick tomorrow because we will have health care under both plans. we can rest easy because troops will be out of Iraq. Please don't take what im saying for granted. Our lives are worth much more than the 3rd Reich of Bush aka Mr. McCain. Please don't spite the other candidate. Im not going to spite Hillary so don't spite Obama.

I'm going to call this early stage alzheimers. HRC is losing it. She got caught floating Obama as a possible VP in order to go after his base, but she forgot apparently that she said he wasn't ready to be President. Based on yoru argument HRC, McCain is the only candidate with the 'experience'.

I agree with Jay... Typical news day to twist things and try to make Hillary look not good. However--if Democrats do not choose Hillary for their candidate, prepare for McCain to be our next president. And if that happens, I'd love to see Hillary as his running mate. I suspect McCain values her wisdom more than wet-behind-the-ears Obama.

It's sure nice to know where the people's tax dollars have been going.

In place of the tax rebate, I think we should all get $4,000 credits to rent ourselves some prostitutes instead.

the american people are not sheep that lets the media lead us over a cliff. we have been lied to, nearly bankrupted, and forgotten by the present administration. we as a united people can and will right the wrongs of this last president. we are a people of intellligence and we need a leader of intelligence, wisdom, strong character, compassion, humility, strenth, straightforward and reliable. we must elect the one who can hit the ground running without on the job training. we can not afford to lose precious time and money on someone, no matter how charismatic he may be,on mistakes due to inexperience. someone who will not let their pride or ego stand in the way of making the right decisions for our people and country. god bless america and americans.

obama comes across very cocky and arrogant! the presidency is not an entry level position and he should gain experience.

The Clinton years left us the stock market crash with staggering implications to people of all economic status. It left us with the reality of terrorism which reared its ugly head just a few months into Pres. Bush's term. It left us split into the current left/right split we "enjoy" today. The Clinton's (not the current pres.) have lead us into the mess we have today politically. Obama is a breath of fresh air to Democrats as well as some Republicans. That is why Hillary is losing. No other reason. People can see and can remember what happened for 8 years while her husband held the oval office and don't what it to happen again.

Posted by: texasguy | Mar 11, 2008 9:22:16 AM

Hillary can't only hit all the time. Sometime she has to say something, what could be seen as nice by the following democrats. So afterwards she can hit again even harder.

Why doesn't anyone ask Wolfson for a list of the qualifications needed to pass the golden threshold for national security. I think this would be handy for this election and all future elections. This information is too important to be kept secret within the Clinton campaign, and we should all know what steps Obama needs to take before he will have crossed that threshold. Because the Clinton camp has made it clear that he may cross it by this summer, it would be good for all of us to know about it so we can keep track of Mr. Obama's progress.

Posted by: John, Las Vegas, NV | Mar 11, 2008 9:11:28 AM

Obviously her campaign is built on massive pandering to all sides so much that Hillary has lost track of what her current script is supposed to be. She then uses the psychological projection technique quite common in those who practice denial-- she sees you as the confused one, Jake, not herself.

*points finger at head, makes slow deliberate circles with it, points it at Hillary*

There are many people in the Democratic party who like the idea of a dream ticket. Hillary was not the one to come
up with the idea.

Barack is the one who is saying anything to win, and trying to smear the Clintons, when they are just raising legitmate and important questions about his record and real qualifications to be President of our country at this time.

Hillary will win the popular vote, and she is trying to present a solution to heal the division of the party.

Hillary is our most qualified candidate.

Posted by: Lauren | Mar 11, 2008 4:36:59 AM

Hillary is not a liar. Barack has been accused of lying and changing positions too. Everyone in politics has to change positions sometimes.

Hillary is our most qualified candidate, and she is a very good woman. She is backed by many excellent people.

She did a lot of work in Bill's administration was one of the most socio-economically successful we've had in history.

Don't believe the smears and lies.

I lived through the reality of the Clinton and Bush presidencies.

When Bill left office this country was in some of the best shape it ever had been in.

The reason why we are in this bad shape now is BUSH, and Bush policies.

Remember, if you really mean that you want hope, change, and unity - you have to respect other Democrats, and not 'hate' and believe lies.
