Colbert Presses Power on What Kind of "Monster" Clinton Is
March 19, 2008 9:46 AM
"You want to clarify what kind of monster?" the brilliant Stephen Colbert asked former Obama aide Samantha Power on the Colbert Report in a reference to Power's remark to a Scottish newspaper that Sen. Hillary Clinton is a "monster."
"There's a way to make this positive," Colbert says. "Why not embrace it? What about a good monster like Cookie Monster? …The campaign slogan could be 'C is for Clinton, that's good enough for me.'"
(The question -- are cookies good enough for Clinton?)
"I'm willing to say that John McCain is a minotaur," Colbert added.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Colbert Presses Power on What Kind of "Monster" Clinton Is:
Why is Barack Obama running for President?
He claims that he is uniquely qualified to “bring our country together” and that despite his lack of experience and relative youth, he has demonstrated superior “judgment”.
Obama has now acknowledged Reverend Jeremiah Wright, used incendiary language that widened the racial divide. Obama says of (his) fellow congregants that (their) anger is real; it is powerful; and that not understanding its roots, serves to widen the chasm between the races.
If Obama is really the Reconciler in Chief, why didn’t he change the hearts of Rev. Wright and his flock over the past 20 years? Everyone is asking what influence the good Reverend had on the candidate, but shouldn’t we be wondering why the very people Obama knew best, still hate America, the White Man and Israel?
With regard to the issue of judgment; Obama demeans President Bush, John McCain and the Clintons claiming that they didn’t know what was going on inside Saddam’s closed police state, (10,000 miles away) when he didn’t know what was happening in the pew right next to him.
I think that pretty well sums up the qualifications issue.

I hate it when people take things back, you know she still feels the same about Hillary. I would have more respect for her if she said I still think she is a monster.
But I do love Steven.

I heard the entire speech. I heard how he defended the racist preacher and threw his old white grandma under the bus! The one that helped to raise him.... Would he treat our country like Grandma??

Hey! Have some humility and courage to recognise a good speech when you hear one. Obama is a living saint compared to the current incumbent, George Bush and we don't hear the right-wingers bashing him, do we? Some double standard exercised by the lot of you and it is not a wonder then that the sentiments echoed by Wright are, unfortunately shared by many, who are not just black in their skin.

Obama and his camp wants to cry FOUL every time something does not go his way whether it is from his past, present or future and it comes back to bite him. “We bungled this and now we want you to pay for it.”
Reality check!
Does Obama think that the rest of the world is going to "play nice"?
The rest of the world is NOT going to be as kind as he needs nor the media and everyone else has been with Obama.
The only thing the Obama camp comes up with continually is "Hillary has not supplied her tax returns".
Tax day has moved up?
But, I thought it was still April 15.
No!
The Obama camp has had that changed, too?
I got to go!

If Obama is ready and willing to throw his grandmother; someone who has cared for him, raised him, and sacrificed for him to the wolves to justify Rev. Wright's behavior and on Wright's behalf.
What do you think Obama will do to the American People?

Hillary is a monster of the worst kind. She would devour small children and the Democratic Party to get back in the White House.
Hillary supporters, you really need to pay attention to just how power hungry the Clintons are. She didn't release her schedules out of the goodness of her heart or for transparency...there was a court ruling that required them to be released.
There is just too much baggage with the Clinton's scandalous past. Bill's business dealings with China or his Kazahstan uranium deals have not been made public. Donors to the Clinton Library or Foundation pose a huge conflict of interest. There is a lawsuit in California right now against the Clintons by Peter Paul.
Think about it...power hungry Clintons with a shady past...a black man with a racist preacher.
I'm less concerned about what someone's preacher says than I am with the power hungry Clintons.

That's a minotaur??
Looks more like an aggressive water buffalo to me. I thought Powers was trying rather hard to rise above the whole Monster thing, but there was Colbert, splashing away in the fetid pool and saying "COME ON IN, ITS NICE HERE!!!"
I love that guy, and was totally prepared to scare the bejeezus out of him and write his name in on my primary ballot, being that I'm never voting for Hillary Clinton. Ever.
Posted by: Rumors | Mar 19, 2008 1:12:36 PM
You could have picked a less flattering minotaur to depict McCain.

I've always liked the cookie monster. He knows how to get what he needs and he's not afraid to go after it. Hillary Clinton will do that for out country.
Everyone Wins with Clinton in 2008!

I too was ready to vote for Obama. How can a person such as myself , a non racist with good friends from all races and religions, an honest person with nothing to hide, vote for Obama now? Wright is not just a "casual" friend to Obama. Hate mongerers like Farrakhan and Wright are just the kind of ilk who has this planet in the strife it is in. Are they in bed with terrorists? They SOUND like terrorists- they have me terrified with their hatred. A president with a close intimate relationship, and a great deal of respect for the kind of men who openly teach and shout hatred for whites and our Country (and the Jews) is the beginning of the end of our Republic, which is the beauty and product of hard working kind honest taxpaying citizens. Wake up America- Hillary (and her secrets) is also a phony as a three dollar bill! Liars and hypocrites! Is this all we have for potential leadership of a Nation of wonderful real people? Surely we can do better than these-we must do better, for the sake of our children, for the safely of the world. What happened to dignity, integrity and altruism, I see these qualities everyday in my fellow citizens, why not in elected (and would be) "officials".Give these people POWER?! Give these people our hard earned taxes - OUR money to do what ??! Destroy us?! I am broken hearted, and having a hard time seeing any light around this election! It is all dark to me, sadly.

The only monster I can see is the Axekrod power monster that is busy consuming the Obama campaign.
Or am I the only one who has wondered why Axelrod's services were not deemed appropriate for this campaign?

Samantha Power is super intelligent--the Colbert Report was very good with her. It's really too bad she resigned because of a bonehead moment because this woman really knows her stuff.
Team Clinton should pick her up as an advisor.

The words of Rev. Wright were his and not Obama's. I don't frankly believe in guilt by association and many of you should not, less you be judged by some of the company you have kept. The extent of criticism is unfair and serves to sustain the devisiveness that so many political commentators depend on for their existence. Rev. Wright has become the Straw Dog, the means to attribute all things evil and a way to attempt to kill the candidate Republicans fear most. It won't work. See you Hillary. And the backlash with swamp McCain as well.

Obama is a sham, and that "speech" will not go down in history. I'm sorry for all the Obama supporters out there, who do not see him for the politican he is. He has gone to a church for over 20 years, that promoted hatred and racism. You cannot sit in a church like that for 20 years, and not share some of those views. Can you imagine if Hillary Clinton had been a member of David Duke's congregation for 20 years? She would have been crucified. I am sick and tired of the double standard that people and the media have been fostering to Obama's benefit. I will never vote for Obama.

The candidate of "Change" will not "Change" his racist Anti-America church. How ironic.

Obama has mastered an "art" which the Clintons are old hands at: saying what people want to hear. This is what politicians DO! If oratory and charisma are all that is needed to run the United States, then Obama is your man. Hillary is full of hot air, too, but at least she has SOME idea of what's going on. Old Man McCain might have made a good President in 2000, but Bush defeated him and it's too late now. This is truly an election of the "lesser of evils". How many of us can HONESTLY say there is one of the three candidates we really WANT to vote for? My wife and I supported Obama until two months ago, but he is more concerned with being a Black President than being EVERYONE'S President. We ARE judged by the company we keep! Your parents should have taught you that (mine did). How about ANOTHER cliche: Actions speak louder than words. My wife and I are former Obama supporters who will probably vote (reluctantly) for Old Man McCain, unless Hillary can make another comeback. Then at least we'd have a choice!

If you believe that Bill and Hillary are thieves. Then so be it. If you feel that Bill pardoned a bunch of corrupt people, then so be it. If you feel that Bill is full of scandals, then so be it. Atleast he did not mess around with the entire nation.
In the 90's the economy of the country was at its peak. US did not have to borrow money from China and Japan, because he had a surplus budget. And lastly he was not a part of a clan who hates America.
Bill did not go to a church for 20 yeas where the members clapped and laughed after the horrific 9/11. How are these people any different from the group of Palentinians who celebrated after 9/11.

In all objectivity I really don't feel the speech was that great. It was a tepid attempt to correct himself after he had said last week that he wasn't in the pews when Wright was spewing hate against America - an insult to one's intelligence.
The speech was an excuse for a longstanding and close relationship with a black separatist.
When your campaign is all about speeches, and your speeches become feeble excuses, we know that it is time to look to someone else to lead this great country.

I'm willing to concede that Hillary is a cookie monster. But she's my monster and I applaud her and pray that she's the next president.
Don't drink the koolaid...
Signed a middle aged white woman with a bi-racial grandson that believes Obama should have stood up in his church to fight racism rather than stood up in a political campaign to paint a middle aged woman as a racist.
Words may be beautiful but they do not compensate for lack of judgment.

COLBERT is the master all stuff funny. I'm OK with Clinton being a cookie monster, as long as the recipe for the cookie contains a plan for the economy, a plan for health care, and a plan for Iraq. I'm really not interested in an Obama cookie, because it will be lacking some key ingredients.

Unless we try to understand in America, how can we understand anything in the world. Close our eyes, close our ears, we are destined to be the most hated country in the world, open our eyes, open our ears and we can again be the strongest force for good in the world and in our own country. We are good people, filled with ignorance and hate. Maybe a leader, a honest leader can make a difference.

Did you listen to his speech?? Please don't make any comments on Obama untill you actually listened to his speech on race... it is one that will be taught in schools for generations to come. It will be written about in history books regardless if he wins or losses this race. Please spend 30 mins to watch... It was trully amazing

Hillary may be a "monster" to some people, but at least she doesn't buddy around with (or is married to) someone who hates America!
Posted by: Rhys | Mar 19, 2008 10:06:40 AM
Are you kidding me that speech was a JOKE! I was going to vote for him,But since he can't reject his Pastor or his Church Then I reject him. Now Why did Oprah Winfrey Quit that church & he did not You and the rest of the News Media is Giving Barack H.Obama A FREE RIDE. FOX-news Fair & Balenced.
