Ferarro and the Politics of Race

March 11, 2008 6:34 PM

For what it's worth -- raised on the border of South Philly, which is not unlike Queens -- I grew up around hundreds of working-class Gerry Ferraro types.

In a city with a history of racial tensions between working-class whites and African-Americans, I can hardly think of a better wedge issue for the Clinton campaign to use than this one -- this notion that Obama has benefited from some sort of political affirmative action.

And I cannot think of a better surrogate to deliver that message than Gerry Ferraro.

Impeccable coincidence.

BBB1961

Mr. O has never claimed going on a photo op in an another country with and media stars make him CinC material. HRC has.

Big difference.

So we all know what BHO needs to do. Since Sinbad has said the closest thing to a red phone moment Hillary had on the trip was where the three of them would stop to eat.

It is Clear that if Obama wants to get the exerience he needs to be ready on DAY ONE. He must Find Sinbad and Sheryl Crow and visit the troops in Bosnia. For good measure he should take along "The Rock" and maybe even "Kid Rock" too.

This way he gain the requiste experience to put him on par with Hillary.

Maybe BHO wil answer the phone and call up Stevie Wonder or better yet, Live Oprah show from Pyongyang! LOL

Hillary clinton is NOT focused on campaign issues. Time and time again she and her surrogates evoke race to scare white voters and Ferraro's just another racist. What a joke! Racism and Sexism are equally bad and for her to act as though Obama is somehow getting an advantage and that blacks are stupid and just follow the herd is ridiculous. Did anyone notice the large number of republicans crossing the line to vote for her in Mississippi? Just like in Texas, white Republicans are trying to give her the nomination because they know that McCain can beat her. And if she steals the nomination then I'm voting for McCain.

LA in Indiana I am a news junkie! I had not heard the Canadian letter was from the Hillary camp! Must have feel asleep that day.
look we are going to have to agree to disagree.
I know this, if we don't have a clear winner soon, we are going to tear our party apart and give the white house to the Rep's.
Right now it is ours to lose!

A joint ticket would be the answer, but with Obama rejecting that it makes it hard. look Hilary could be on the bottom the ticket, but if you we want the party intact she has to be on the ticket. If not the party will be divided. For that matter she could run as independent and rip the party to pieces!

before I sign off...I just wanted to remind you folks, hillary won NH by pushing a lie.
The lie she pushed quietly, was that Obama was against a woman's right to choose. Even though he rec'd 100% rating from Planned Parenthood, she put the lie out on flyers to NH residents.
They bought into the lie, he lost NH.

Well have a good night all, and come back tomorrow to do this all over again.

Ferraro's comment was taken as she intended it, a slur to get a new talking point out there for nervous white voters. Be afraid to vote for a black man because you can't criticize him without being labelled racist.

Let me put myself out there to say that Hillary's candidacy has done well by appealing to WOMEN, she has in particular captured unusually high vote percentages among older white women - this is what we call female sexism - tell the guys to move over because gosh, a woman can just do it better.

And not to mention, riding on her husband's name... we don't hear the OBAMA camp whining about unfair favoritism and Hillary's position arising due to her husband's presidency.

This whole story is nothing but gutter snipe politic'g by the Clinton camp and turns this voter away in revulsion.

BBB1961, if you don't think hillary has been nasty, with her kitchen sink strategy, then we aren't watching the same campaign race.

Nancy Pelosi, and I assume some of the Leadership, they do think hillary crossed the line, whether you want to believe it or not.

And Obama DID NOT, and I repeat DID NOT, do the wink/nod to the canadians. If you weren't paying attention, and I guess you wouldn't because they kept it quiet in the news after the fact, the canadians said it was not the Obama campaign, but the clinton campaign. Now I know you might want to quote conflicting stories, but that is what happened, and that is why the MSM stopped talking about it. But that was one of those lies that was pushed to the people of Ohio, and it worked.

And I'm sure there will be another lie or distortion of some sort pushed to the people in PA.

Obama has a hefty enough resume to be President of the United States, even though you may not agree.
Understand, Obama never said "change" would be easy. On the stump he states how difficult it will be, but he reiterates how important it is for people to be involved in their government. Transparency is extremely important to get anything done, and that is what he is pushing for. I'm sorry if you don't agree with it.

The news is that Ferraro said exactly the same thing about Jesse Jackson back in 1988.

So it looks like Ferraro is simply a lifelong racist.

obama----YIKES !!! well put! At least we know all of Hillary's dirty laundry it has all been played out. What do we know about Obama! What a shame if he wins the nod and then Rep"s pull out a file no one told us about!

Posted by: BBB1961 | Mar 11, 2008 10:35:53 PM

Jack that explains why you have sounded somewhat like Ferrero in most your biases Clinton vs. Obama posts. I am saddened to here that you did not have the chance to grow up in en environment not so racially prejudiced. Now that I understand the source of you racial bias..I can't blame you much.

wow, it must be getting late....

she didn't THINK a joint ticket would be possible

Posted by: LA in Indiana | Mar 11, 2008 10:23:16 PM

girlinvt....it wasn't the ad, it was the Commander in Chief.
Nancy Pelosi commented on that today, stating she didn't a joint ticket would be possible now BECAUSE of the CIC comment hillary made.
THAT comment threw Obama under the bus, and I believe the party holds an unwritten rule about attempting to destroy your opponent to give the other side a hand up.

LA in Indiana What Nastiness? She has done nothing over the top. Obama supporter as well as the press makes something out of nothing. Was it not Obama who was putting out false flyers in Ohio? If you are referring to 3:00am phone add that is not nasty that is legitimate question.
What experience does Obama bring to the table? Does he think he is going to march into DC and all the congress and lobbyist are just going to roll over and say “oh the Obama is here we all need to roll over and do as he says”?
Obama supporters are living in fantasy world if they think he is going to bring real change, To push this point look at last week, he’s campaign is caught writing the Canadians telling them “ not to worry about NAFTA changing we are just telling people that” then Obama aide Samantha Power telling British paper Hilary is “monster” . Now that is nasty! If you think Hilary is nasty, just wait and see if Obama wins the nod. The Rep’s will make Anything Hilary has done (nothing that I’ve seen) like mother Teresa. All I can say if he can’t take the heat get out of the Kitchen. Hillary is tested she has fought the right wing many times and knows how to handle them with poise and panache.

Posted by: BBB1961 | Mar 11, 2008 10:21:25 PM

so true Commander Guy.
But I guess that is why some say she is getting desperate, as she doesn't appear too concerned whether the information is true or false. As long as she gets vote because of it, who cares. We usually don't find out until after the fact whether information like that was true or not, and then its too late to take back your vote.
I guess that is why hillary said she would release her taxes AFTER she is the nominee. You can't take your vote back at that point.

DCV

I know you got the INSIDE dope on the Clinton campaign meme. So it is fun the play with ya.

How bout answer the Irak Q about Hillary I posted below.

Posted by: The Commander Guy | Mar 11, 2008 10:14:21 PM

Chickaboom I understand its a right to vote and to research and find out as much as possable about a candidate. I have checked into the Rezko thing and I do not like it,I lived thru the Clinton years and 70 million to prove a man cheated on his wife seems a little much.but its all they could prove.I feel our currant president sold out America to line his pockets.I feel Obama is another such as Bush

Posted by: girlinvt | Mar 11, 2008 10:14:10 PM

Obama----YIKES !!!: I know what you're saying, but I think you and I can tell when somebody's a "pro," as opposed to you and me and those like us just noodling around on here, waiting for the Hollywood writers to get some new scripts on the air!

Yes, there are lots of amateur copy-and-pasters on here -- too many some days! -- but there's also that certain, select few, just a little *too* polished and precise, about whom you can often just *tell*....

Posted by: chickaboom | Mar 11, 2008 10:11:56 PM

Asking the who do you feel more confident in answering a phone at 3 am is throwing someone under a bus is a laugh.....maybe you should google past democratic races.

Posted by: girlinvt | Mar 11, 2008 10:09:26 PM
