why is Obama not going to campaign much in Pa he is more or less leaving it to Hillary? I think what Geraldine Ferraro
said is true on both fronts Hillary would not be where she is if President Clinton had not been a well liked 2 term president and Brock Obama would not be there if he was not AA and I do believe he like Hillary has every right to stay in this till the end but I think this is about White men [middle-age] being more afraid of a woman running the super power of the world sad but I guess they over looked every bodys emotions.OBama himself said he wasn't going to run except other senators wanted him to.Kerry,Kennedy

Malthusian77,

Obama has spent the last half of his life covorting with people like Dr. Wright (a supporter of Louis Farrakhan), Tony Rezko who is being tried for what the media describes as "A cesspool of corruption" and countless others. I'm concerned that he is not who he pretends to be. Great speaker though......

Malthusian77: I guess I am in a reflective moment today. AT times like these I think that it is incumbent on all of us to step back and take a deep breath and make sure that we don't become participants in the very thing that we condemn. I did not mean to say that Mr. Obama's support was only from black americans, the results of Virginia and Wisconsin bear that out. My point was that if one looks at the results so far that a major part of his success has been his ability to gain 90+ support from the black community. That is a true statement not I hope a racist one. All that I am asking for today is that each of us accept the fact that people in campaigns say stupid things but to label them racist when there has been nothing in their past that would suggest it only serves to devide us. The very fact that I am a democrat is because it was this party who despite the political cost stood behind the civil rights movement and helped make Kings dream a possibility! It would have been easy to walk away but we did not. We must also realize that women have been discriminated against even though they are a majority. Black men were given the right to vote in this country before white or black women. So maybe we can forgive them for their fustration just as we forgive the furstration of black americans. If we do this then maybe at the end of this historic campaign we can say how proud we were to be its witness.

Russell, this appears to be the new litmus test administered by the Obama camp and those of us in the Hillary camp have been branded as racist. Obviously, people like us HAVE to be shut down at all costs. I can handle that as I've been through the real thing.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 12, 2008 7:19:00 PM

Dogsolider: Great post! I was thinking the same thing about how we are coming close to using racism to quite our opponets the same way communism was used to quite those who challenged the status quo in the past. I hope that we are not getting to the point in america that people are getting so sensitive that in order to shut down dialogue that we do not like we simply say they are a racist therefore end of story.

Posted by: russell | Mar 12, 2008 7:09:56 PM

Oh sorry it was racist of me to bring up Obama's church, his spiritual advisor and Pastor, even if its fact.

As a Native American I frequently laugh when I read what liberals and hard left liberals call racism. White folks telling people like me what racism is or is not. Obviously, some of you need to hang around with me out here in the real world. Trust me, you don't have to endlessly dissect this or that statement for the slightest degree of racism to find it out here in my world. And in the real world Ferraro's statements were NOT racism. Then again I'm not a liberal nor am I a hard left liberal. I'm a centrist or slightly right of center so I tend to see liberals and hard left liberals as an example of everything that is wrong with society. They prevent us all from talking with each other over our differences AND our similarities. Instead of asking why you do feel as you do they blindly brand an individual as racist in order to shut him/her down. This is truly a frightening version of America.

Posted by: Dogsoldier | Mar 12, 2008 7:03:40 PM

Malthusian77: This is a very sensitive matter race and gender. I can't speak for Ferraro but maybe what she was stating is the obvious, that is to say that if he were white he probably would not be getting 90+ percent of the black vote. It can also be said that if Hillary was Harold she would not be getting the majority of women's vote. Is it fair to say race is the only reason he is where he is NO. It is painfully obvious to any of us that have watched this race knows that Hillary is getting a large part of her support from women and Obama is geeting his primarly from blacks. That should not diminish the fact that each has their strengths and weakness. I guess this is what happens when you have the first viable black and woman in the same year. Things are bound to be said that is taken out of context or misconstrued. No matter what she said I don't think that Jerry Ferraro is a racist no more than some have said Bill Clinton is a racisist. If each campaign continues to ask that the others supporters be dismissed because of stupid things they say I am not sure there will be anyone standing at the end of this process including the canidaates. Looks like McCain may win by default.

The entire democratic party is self destructing and there's only two people who can fix it.

Posted by: SadStateOfAffairs | Mar 12, 2008 6:51:30 PM

People defending these statements are sad people. Saying things like "there will be no end to what the white person will be forced to endure" and so on is extremely telling.

And to those saying that it's somehow "shocking" that anyone would be offended by these comments... Obama wasn't being "questioned" about anything related to his experience or judgement or anything. He was being BELITTLED because of his skin color. Nothing else. And then to turn this around and say that the people upset by such words are the ones who are racist is... appalling.

Posted by: mos | Mar 12, 2008 6:49:18 PM

The damage is done and she did her job.Yes, nice to see the judgement Hillbilly has in people, they owe favors and if this is the way she runs this country.God help us.If my finance position person got to the point I had to lend myself 5 mil I would have fired her a long time ago.I want to know where that 5 mil came from and who bought her this time/...

Posted by: h | Mar 12, 2008 6:42:24 PM

About time, I guess her age made it difficult to jump of the "Solutions Express" until she had done a lot of damage to the Democratic party, slow coach. See u alligator. Let's face the issues no more distractions, OK?

Emo - what demeaning statements? He is black isn't he? Can't handle the truth so everyone yells "racism, racism". I guess Oabam needs his wittle pillow. His feelings might get hurt.. awww. You're running for the presidency not a popularity contest. Grow some thicker skin yo.

Obama using the race cards again. Well he even knows what Ferraro said was true then - using the race card to his advantage NICE. Case closed.

Posted by: winnie | Mar 12, 2008 6:35:07 PM

Druid, Oabam had a business relationship and a friendship with Rezko -- such great judgment on his part. Don't want Obama picking up the phone at 3 am that's for sure. He might sell out the US to Russia or China.

Her staements may have been wrong but to call them racist only servers to flame the passions between Hillay and Obama supporters. Was it not also racist for him to say on the one had he beleived Hillary when she said that she did not think that anyone in her campaign had anything to do with the now imfamous photo. Yet he goes down to MS and says to a mostly black audience that Hillary was responsible for its distribution. Thus saying that she was trying to smear a black man. The crowd Booed each time her name was mentioned. So I ask who is playing the race card?

Posted by: russell | Mar 12, 2008 6:27:54 PM

Rusell you are so right. It showed up in the Miss. vote last night already. It will be worse.

Posted by: toby | Mar 12, 2008 6:27:49 PM

The Clinton campaign gave Ferraro a finance position in spite of this ridiculous woman being taken to task by the House Ethics Committee for mismanaging the finances of her own failed campaign with Walter Mondale?

Once again Hillary demonstrates her incomparable powers of judgment.

Posted by: Druid | Mar 12, 2008 6:23:33 PM

To those who are defending Ferraro's comments...

She alluded that it was THE reason... she was trying to raise money/support for Hillary...so yes she was discounting all of his other attributes.

The first statement was just dumb. ...adn yeah I would have said she misspoke ...but then she comes out today and says (oy painful to watch someone so not self aware) That it is "reverse racism" because she is white...

Okay she needs to stop... and I am sure Sen. Clinton is thinkinfgthat too.

...because she really did discount all of his other attributes by saying "If he was white he would not be here"

Anyone who has listened to him and seen how he connects with how young people view the world would say...that is at the least an over statement of that characteristic, and that, especially as a democrat, she should know better. To highlight an attribute that she has no backing to know how that effects besides black people are voting for him (and as many racists aren't) that he may have even done better because of his speaking and his ability to connect with young people...and his message... if he was not black because of any racism that may exist in this country.

I would say his youth and brains played a bigger part than his lovely skin tone.

Posted by: dl | Mar 12, 2008 6:23:14 PM

So the Obama campaign was sucessfull in removing Ferraro. This will only serve to inflame the passions of middle age white wwomen. The sound the Obama campaign should be afraid of is the one of stampeding white women going to the polls in PA. and the remainder of the primaries. Yes you got you pound of flesh from Hillary but on April 22 white women will deliver a double digit blow to the Obama campaign. Everything you do has consequences.

Accusing everyone of racism whenever a politician is questioned is a little bit frightening don't you think?

Just a thought.

Posted by: s.b. | Mar 12, 2008 6:18:23 PM

I'm sorry she stepped down. You shouldnt have to resign for saying something that is true. This is entirely different than name calling.

The Obama campaign accusing everyone of being racist that challenges him in any way, even to address legitimate issues is what should be making people angry, not someone who has enough guts to stand up to that garbage.

Duval Patrick did the same thing to get elected, the Detroit mayor is doing it now to try to dodge a sex scandal. Yeah we're all racist, now speak to the issues please.

What democrats need to get their heads around is that the black vote is concentrated in blue states or red states where the white voters will vote 80% against him and in a general, they have more votes. Blacks can't won states for the Dems in NOV.

Women, on the other hand, make up 55% of the electorate in every state. If 2% of women swing to the more qualified candidate if Obama is nominated, and I think they will, the Republicans win the white house.

Posted by: s.b. | Mar 12, 2008 6:15:55 PM

92% of black voters were for Obama,47% of those stated that they wouldnt care if it was Obama or Clinton in November, they voted Obama because he was the best black candidate with the greatest hope of winning.Ferraros comment was taken out of context just like Michelle Obamas was.But I see MIchelle is still with her husband

Posted by: girlinvt | Mar 12, 2008 6:12:57 PM

Ferraro should apologize for her egregious statements. She makes me embarrassed to be a Democrat, and no longer regret that, in my youth, I voted for Reagan when she ran with Mondale. But, once again, the Clinton spin cycle was well timed to get the press to completely ignore Obama's important endorsement of Flag Officers from Army, Navy and Air Force. They seem to think he is better fit to be CiC than Clinton.

Ferarro is my new heroine. I loved the way she defended herself in the Sawyer interview. If you go on to elect Obama this is what you can expect for the next 4 years. There will be no free speech because every time you disagree with Obama you will be called a racist in the same way if you disagreed with Bush on the war you were called unpatriotic.

Posted by: Firefighter | Mar 12, 2008 6:11:56 PM

I am sorry to hear that the obama campaign has pushed this to happen. Geraldine Ferraro was correct in her statement.
Obama is treated as though he is the most special being by the media who are sorely afraid of him.
What you see happening before you is what this country will aspire to if he is elected. These episodes are just the beginning and there will be no end to what the white person will be forced to endure.

That took too long, why allow this ignorant woman make demeaning statements about Barack and give her this long to step down. Clinton has shown once again that she is incapable of true leadership, much like George Bush.
