Hillary Denies Saying "Big Boys" Were Trying to Bully a Woman Out of the Race
March 31, 2008 10:06 AM
The New York Times' Patrick Healey, Jeff Zeleny and Adam Nagourney reported on Saturday that, in response to calls for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, to drop out of the race (from the likes of Obama-backing Sen. Pat Leahy, D-Vermont), "In a conversation with two Democratic allies, she compared the situation to the 'big boys' trying to bully a woman, according to interviews with them."
In the Washington Post Sunday, Clinton denied the report to Perry Bacon, Jr.
Q. "There was a story today that said you felt the 'big boys' were trying to push you out, 'bullying' you. Did you use those phrases?"
Clinton: "No , I did not. ... I never said that. I'm always amazed when I read things I supposedly said that I never said. Look, I think that what is going on with people trying to shut this process down is very counterproductive. I think it is not in the best interests of the Democratic Party…
"It would be perilous for me to say, 'You know, Barack Obama won x,y and z. That's not enough electoral votes. He should drop out.' Why would anybody say that? We need to let this contest continue. I know there are some people who want to shut this process down, and I think they are wrong and I have no intention of stopping until we finish what we started, and until we see what happens in the next 10 contests, and until we resolve Florida and Michigan. And if we won't resolve it, we'll resolve it at the convention -- that's what credentials committees are for -- because I feel so strongly about this. For the life of me, what Barack was afraid of with Michigan I will never understand. There is no doubt in my mind he would have done just fine running a vigorous campaign."
UPDATE: Healey at the New York Times emailed me to say the newspaper stands by its story.

Both Bushes cried. Men that are real men aren't afraid to cry. I see no problem with anyone crying. Someone has some issues if they can't cry.

Well-sourced, you say? The sources in the NYT article are "aides" and "two Democratic allies." If that's the standard, here's my contribution to investigative journalism:
According to sources close to the Obama campaign, Mr. Obama hides under the kitchen sink and "cries his eyes" out every time someone mentions his veneration for the Reagan administration. Party allies also report that the junior Senator "wets his bed" so frequently as to require "rubber sheets" due to "nightmares" about little old ladies getting past his "caucus goons" and participating in the democratic process.
Someone give me a byline.

Hillary never runs from a difficult situation, but I remember Barack doing that in Texas when they asked him too many questions about REZCO. He said 8. That's enough. It took him about a month to regroup. lol. I laugh everytime I see him hiding behind that curtain.

lol... yea im sure if that was even a option hilary would have done it first and we wouldnt be talking right now! and lets not even talk about tears, because what kind of prez cries when they get to go first? or makes crazy remarks because of what saturday night live says?

Michigan and Florida LEGISLATORS did that not the dems..

For what the Democratic party did to Florida and Michigan and the Obama supporters have done to Hillary in this asking her to bow out crap I've decided I am really a Republican at heart. I don't support any of this kind of stuff.
And for those who say take it out on our locals. When that time comes that will happen too, but right now it was supposed to have been a presidential race...but that was kind of squashed by the supposed Dem bosses. Good luck with that crowning.

yea but you have to admit its not that far off from, does obama need a pillow! she has been making the "bully" remarks on t.v.

Michigan and Florida voters should be upset with THEIR OWN LEGISLATORS, not Obama or Clinton or the DNC. They were given rules and willfully disregarded them! Both Clinton and Obama signed a waiver and abided by the dnc rules. Clinton is just causing a stink now becuase she's losing. If our memory serves us correctly, she had no problem with the rules when she signed on the dotted line. So instead of saying i wont vote for Clinton or Obama, try saying i wont vote my state legislators come next election. In truth they are the ones that disenfranchised you!

What happened to the good old days when the nominee was chosen AT the convention with ALL the delegates being recognized. Evidently, Howard Dean thinks there is no need to allow this to play out in a democratic way since Howard and his cohorts have decided to disenfranchise not only the voters in Florida and Michigan who already have actually voted, but also all the voters in the other states who have yet to vote. This is democracy??? Ol' Kennedy, Kerry, Richardson, Dodd, Leahy, et al. -- what great bills have they been able to get through Congress? These losers have no right to call for Clinton to stop. THEY are part of the problem for which we need a change. If this is the case, why have a convention, why waste all that money, why bother to tally the votes of any of the delegates -- especially since the caucuses were not exactly monitored fairly! There were busloads of students paid for by the Obama campaign driven into Iowa to caucus from another state -- I could have gone because at one time I was an Obama supporter before I woke up to the truth about who he really is. Why doesn't the media investigate the caucus process in each of the caucus states that went to Obama to find out just how they were monitored, what rules were -- or were not -- followed, what kind of identification did the participants need, etc.? Also, just how many of these states will go to McCain anyway in the general election, so it doesn't matter which democrat won.

I'll say it. She is being BULLIED by the boys in the party. She doesn't have to say something for it to be true. The truth is the truth, whether it's in whispers or from the mountain tops.
I have news for you men, women aren't going to shut up and be bullied out of the process any longer.
Deal with it.

Big Boys have been Hillary's age old fantasy. Now that's she worn out they finally pay attention to her. Let her enjoy that brief moment before she goes under.

Really I think Hillary is being swiftboated by her own party. What a wonderful party we are.
